Chapter 185
Chapter 185
"Alright, just drop me off here. I have something to tell you. Hear me out first."
Sensing something off in Sophia's tone, the excitement that had just risen in Benjamin's heart faded considerably. He pressed his thin lips together.
"Okay, go ahead. What is it?"
After a moment of silence, Sophia finally spoke her mind.
"Benjamin, let's... let's get a divorce."
The moment the word "divorce" came out, the atmosphere in the car changed instantly. Benjamin's profile turned cold. He turned around and glared at Sophia, asking through gritted teeth.
"Say that again. What do you want to do? You want to divorce me?"
Sophia nodded, her expression calm.
"Yes, I want to divorce you. I've brought this up many times, as you well know. The last few times, you didn't seem to take what I said seriously."
She looked straight into Benjamin's eyes, which were practically shooting flames, and continued word by word.
"I know why you didn't take what I said to heart before. Because you thought I'd have a hard time without you. But now you've seen it—I'm doing just fine without you, even better than before."
"Not only have I picked up my violin dream again, but I'm doing really well at it. I have my own studio now. I don't have to be controlled by anyone or live watching anyone's face. Isn't it only right that I ask for a divorce?"
Her words were crystal clear. Benjamin's face gradually darkened.
After a moment, he turned his head, his tone still forceful.
"I said no means no. I don't want a divorce."
Sophia calmly opened the car door. She got out directly, then said coldly through the window.
"Do you know the law has special provisions for separated couples? After a certain period of time, I can file for a forced divorce unilaterally."
"As long as we remain separated, I can still divorce you without needing your consent. This time, I won't choose to leave with nothing. I'll also try to fight for custody of Katya. I have a job now and the ability to support myself. Who knows, custody of Katya might end up with me."
After saying this, without any lingering attachment, she turned and walked away. Behind her came the sound of hurried footsteps, and her wrist was firmly grabbed.
It was Benjamin. He was no longer as forceful as before, his expression full of disbelief.
"Why are you being so final? Give me one more chance, or... or hit me, or keep giving me the cold shoulder like now. Just don't ask for a divorce. You can live outside as long as you want, just don't ask for a divorce, okay?"
Sophia gently pulled her hand back.
"No."
Her voice was flat. After speaking, she turned and went upstairs, paying no more attention to the devastated man behind her.
She had given him chances more than once. Since that was the case, there was no need to continue.
The next day, a divorce agreement was delivered to Benjamin's company. Chase delivered it personally.
Cold sweat dripped from his forehead. Under pressure, he tremblingly placed the divorce agreement on the desk.
"Mr. White, this is... this is from Mrs. White..."
His voice trembled, and he didn't even dare to say the words "divorce agreement" out loud.
"Get out."
Benjamin's voice was ice cold, his gaze almost freezing people in place.
Upon hearing this, Chase quickly left without wasting a single second.
The divorce agreement was torn to shreds by Benjamin. He didn't even hesitate. After hearing Chase close the door, he picked up the papers on the desk and tore them to pieces without hesitation.
Scraps of paper were scattered all over the floor. His face was gloomy, his eyes full of unwillingness.
Sophia wasn't sure whether he had signed the divorce agreement or not, but she knew in her heart that Benjamin wouldn't sign it so easily.
She had already made all her decisions and preparations that day, and she no longer cared whether Benjamin was willing to sign or not.
After confirming that the divorce agreement had been delivered to Benjamin, Sophia threw herself wholeheartedly into preparing for the upcoming concert.
All her makeup and hair were handled by the new studio. The makeup artist was an unfamiliar woman who looked quite young, wearing a baseball cap and mask, her face completely covered, making it impossible to see her expression clearly.
Behind the makeup artist stood another man. They pushed in a clothing rack—the clothes Sophia would choose from next.
"Ms. Brown, why don't we pick out the dress first?"
The makeup artist suddenly spoke up, deliberately lowering her voice, which carried a strange coldness.
Sophia glanced at her and frowned slightly.
"Who are you? I've never seen you before. Are you a new makeup artist?"
The makeup artist's body stiffened. She immediately laughed dryly and answered.
"Yes, I'm new. Ms. Brown, let's pick the dress first."
Before Sophia could think further, the clothing rack had already been pushed over. The clothes hanging on it were still luxury haute couture, and several were new collection gowns that hadn't been worn out yet, dazzling and eye-catching.
"These fashion brands haven't contacted us before. Where did you get these clothes from?"
The two men who pushed in the rack replied.
"Ms. Brown, these gowns are all arranged by Mr. Wilson. Mr. Wilson said you can pick any gown you like without any concerns."
Sophia ultimately chose a low-key yet exquisite gown.
"Return the rest to the brands. Send back those haute couture pieces arranged by Mr. Wilson, too, and tell Mr. Wilson thank you for his arrangement."
The two pushed the rack away, leaving only the makeup artist and Sophia in the dressing room.
"Just do the makeup and styling according to today's theme. Thank you for your work."
For convenience, Sophia had already changed into the gown she selected. She sat on the stool, facing a makeup mirror that allowed her to see both herself and the makeup artist standing behind her.
The makeup artist looked very thin. Upon hearing this, she just nodded lightly and somewhat clumsily searched for makeup tools on the table.
Sophia only glanced once before frowning, her tone becoming more serious.
"Aren't you supposed to be a professional makeup artist? You don't even know the most basic makeup steps. You haven't applied primer on me yet."
The makeup artist froze, then put down the powder puff in her hand, covering up in a flustered manner.
"Ms. Brown, I'm just too nervous. I'm really sorry. I'll apply the primer now."
As if trying to make her behavior seem more reasonable, the makeup artist looked at Sophia's skin and deliberately said, "Why don't you close your eyes first? I'm afraid I'll get it in your eyes."
Sophia stared intently at the makeup artist and didn't close her eyes as instructed. She suddenly said.
"Wait a minute."
