Chapter 51 51

Chapter 51 51

Lucy swallowed hard. She could not hide the fear that had taken root in her heart now. The fear had spread so much that it was all over her face now. Her chest wouldn't slip tightening too and her fingers instinctively dug into her clothes as her body tried to find a distraction from the danger they were facing. Nicole looked away for a split second before her eyes landed on Lucy again and staying there. She knew the threat had shaken her up very well.

"What's wrong?" She continued by taunting her. "Cat got your tongue?"

Lucy shook her head quickly. "N-nothing is wrong."

Liar.

She felt like her entire body wanted to fold into itself but she didn't want to give the bully in front of her that satisfaction that she actually had anything over.

No. Despite the fact that her joy was literally shaking, she didn't want to attempt that as that would give Nicole more and more reasons to make her hurt even more. She hated that she looked scared, but she couldn't stop it. Nicole stepped even closer, slow and calm, as if she enjoyed every second of what she saw on the girl's face.

"You know," Nicole said softly. "You should really learn how to relax. You're guests in this house. Maybe for now. You should feel safe because obviously Domemico is going to keep his eyes out for you and will make sure that you are well treated, but when that stops, hell begins. Trust me you're going to be in a lot of pain, a world of hurt."

She leaned in more, her voice dropping.

"But... maybe you shouldn't feel too safe. I'll come for you whenever I want to so don't start to think that you're sage and that you can do whatever you want now."

Lucy felt her stomach knot again. She didn't know how to steel herself against threats that were coming out of Nicole's lips.

One thing she hated so much was the fact that Nicole wasn't bluffing. She meant those things and she had witnessed firsthand how cruel Nicole could be to people.

She could even kill if she felt like it. Why does she hate me so much. She wondered. What did I do? Why was she always filled with the urge to hurt me?

Nicole straightened and finally let out a small scoff like she hadn't just threatened to make her suffer, like they hadn't just had that tense conversation.

"Don't worry, this is just me saying hi to you people. So don't worry too much. At least you both know your fate now-"

She wasn't done when the door opened suddenly without anybody knocking.

That's when Domenico walked in. Tall. Cold face like stone and broad shoulders and a striking physique that was accentuated by his clothes.

The dark morning stubble was the icing on the cake. He didn't needed speak to command the room. His physique was enough to do that for him.

He stopped the moment he saw Nicole standing there, obviously not helping around. He knew she must have come here to cause trouble. That was the only possible explanation for what was going on. "What's going on here?"

He asked in that deep, steady voice that brought back a bit of colour to Lucy's face. Nicole turned top fast like she didn't want him to notice anything.

"Nothing," she said. "I just came to check on our guests. I wanted to make sure they were okay."

She smiled sweetly, too sweet, fake as hell. "Everything’s fine."

Lucy looked at Domenico. She didn't know it she should stay quiet. Her throat felt tight.

But that was enough to tell Domenico that his thoughts were right. Something was going on in here.

Lucy was scaring them, like the batch she was. He looked between them and then gave a slow nod.

"Good," he said. "Because they are not here to be bothered and I think that should be specifically said to you."

Nicole's jaw twitched but she stayed quiet and walked out of the room before the conversation could get any more complicated than it already was. He waited until she walked out of the room and disappeared down the hallway before he turned back to the girl and mother.

Anna was so shocked by what she had just witnessed that she still hadn't found the mouth with which to speak. Lucy's shoulders were stiff still and the shaken look hadn't gone despite Domenico's appearance.

"You okay?" He asked.

She nodded, but her voice came out very small like she was still being oppressed or something by the vixen who'd just left. "Yes."

He took a slow breath and then said.

"Listen." He said in that firm tone but it was softer than before. “You're safe here and I'll make sure that you're taken care of. Nobody is going to mess with you. Not while I'm here."

They didn't trust this place, but something about his voice made her believe him just a little bit. Just enough to breathe again.

"Thank you," she whispered.

He nodded once.

"Good. Eat, rest and don't worry about anything. From now on I am not going to be happy when I see you worried about something and you decide to keep it to yourself without telling me."

She nodded.

Anna gave a gratified nod which he returned before walking out of the room, closing the door behind him.

The moment he stepped into the hallway, the calm look that he'd put on to assure them that everything was going to be fine dropped. His jaw clenched and his eyes darkened instantly, as if a switch inside him had been flicked.

He walked until he finally spotted Nicole standing near the corner of the long hallway, scrolling through her phone. "Nicole."

She stiffened before turning around. And when she did it was too late for her reaction because he grabbed her wrist and slammed her back against the wall.

“What the fuck do you think you're doing?”
She growled, but before she could finish, he clamped his hand over her mouth.

“Now you're going to listen to me, very carefully.”
