The Journal’s Secrets
Heather's POV
I sat at the breakfast table, my stomach twisted into anxious knots, completely devoid of any appetite. Kayden wasn’t around, and the test results were due by evening. The waiting was unbearable. I hated lying in bed, doing nothing to occupy my restless mind. Instead, I busied myself reading about Raven and Xael powers—their strengths, their darker sides, and the terrifying extent. But even the book couldn’t hold my attention for long. Frustrated, I set it aside and stepped out of my room for a walk to clear my head.
As I strolled the halls, I noticed a group of soldiers carrying crates filled with books.
“Wait,” I called out, stopping them.
They froze and turned to me. The scent hit me before I even reached the boxes—Colt’s scent. My monster brother’s lingering essence clung to the books like a haunting memory.
“Where are these from?” I asked, narrowing my eyes as I reached for one of the books.
“From Raven’s old base,” one soldier answered with a respectful nod.
“Take them to my room,” I commanded firmly.
The soldiers exchanged uncertain glances but complied without argument. I followed them, each step heavy with dread and curiosity.
What was in these books? What had driven Colt to become the monster he was?
Once the boxes were deposited in my room, I wasted no time. My fingers trembled as I lifted one of the books—a journal. Colt’s journal.
I hesitated for a moment. A monster like him keeping a journal? The thought was almost absurd. But curiosity won, and I opened it.
The Struggles of Colt
“I am weak, and I hate it. I train until my body breaks, but it’s never enough. The Raven elders never fail to remind me how useless I am. They ridicule me, comparing me to my father, the one who almost destroyed the wolf and Lycan packs but failed because of my mother’s betrayal. She sided with the Lycans and wolves, and everything fell apart.
I’m nothing but damaged goods. A disappointment.
They’ve threatened to strip me of my birthright if I don’t prove myself. If I can’t gain the power they demand, they’ll pass the leadership to my sister—Heather. I hate her for it.”
I froze. My heart clenched at the venom in his words, but I forced myself to keep reading.
Colt Gaining Control
“Finally, I’ve done it. I’ve gained enough power to crush anyone in the Raven squad—even the elders. They won’t laugh at me now.
I’ll kill everyone who stands in my way. The Raven Pack must stand tall in this world, ruling over humans who are nothing but weak, useless creatures.”
The words chilled me to the bone. I turned the page, my eyes scanning the contents. Then I saw it—Colt’s plans.
“First, I’ll eradicate the Raven elders and their loyal pawns. Starting with Kate.”
I kept reading, desperate for answers, but what I found shook me to my core.
“I killed her. She begged me to spare her life. She was pregnant with Alpha Kayden’s child. It was perfect—a jackpot. I enjoyed watching her misery as I ended her life and that of her unborn child. Weakness like hers has no place in this world.”
I couldn’t read any more of the gruesome details. My head throbbed, and my stomach churned. But then my eyes caught another name—my name.
“I’ll use my sister. Heather is a equal Raven, and her power stands in the way of my becoming the full heir. But I’ll get what I want. I’ll force her to open the portal, releasing Raven soldiers—not my father or the pathetic leaders. They can rot in the vortex for all I care.
And if Heather gets pregnant with Xael’s child… that’s the key. A equally Raven heir my sister carrying Xael’s blood will make her stronger, but it’s also her greatest weakness. Once she’s at her peak, I’ll take her power. I’ll kill her and her child, ensuring no one can stand in my way.”
My hand instinctively flew to my stomach. My baby. All of this—the schemes, the manipulation—Colt had orchestrated it all.
Kayden and I… It was never about love to him. It was about control.
Tears blurred my vision, but I forced myself to turn the page. Another name appeared.
Rosaline
“She must stay alive until her hybrid child is born. I injected the child with Raven dark powers. He will be my soldier—a weapon for the future. Rosaline is nothing more than a vessel, a temporary caretaker until I take the child and raise him as my own.”
A knock at the door startled me.
“Hea, are you awake?” Kayden’s cheerful voice called.
Panic surged through me as I slammed the journal shut and quickly sealed it with a spell.
“No, come in!” I called, forcing my voice to remain steady.
He entered with a bright smile, holding a beautifully wrapped box. “I have something for you,” he said, his excitement palpable.
I opened the gift to find a stunning red satin dress. Its elegance took my breath away.
“What’s the occasion?” I asked, my voice laced with surprise.
“We’re going on a little trip in our pack,” he said with a playful grin. “Meet me at 8:00 PM.”
I glanced at the clock. That was only two hours away.
“But what about the results?” I asked, worry creeping into my tone.
“I’ll take care of it,” he assured me, placing a comforting hand on my shoulder. “Tonight is important, Hea. Please, just trust me.”
I nodded reluctantly. His warmth was hard to resist.
When the time came, I slipped into the satin dress. It hugged my figure, the low-cut neckline revealing just enough without drawing attention to my small baby bump. I let my black, wavy hair cascade down my back and added a touch of red lipstick to complement the dress.
Kayden was waiting for me, looking effortlessly handsome in semi-formal clothes. His smile was bright, his sharp features perfectly framed by his neatly styled hair. He extended his hand, and I took it, letting him guide me outside.
We drove into the woods near the pack, where a magical sight awaited us. Twinkling fairy lights illuminated the path to a gazebo surrounded by enchanting flowers. A table for two was set under the stars, with a cozy wooden cabin nearby. The humid night breeze carried the scent of blooming roses, and a red carpet lined the way to the gazebo.
“Wow,” I whispered, utterly awestruck.
Kayden smirked, his confidence brimming. “I was nervous you wouldn’t like it.”
“You have no idea,” I murmured, my voice soft with emotion. “It’s perfect.”
He pulled me close, his warmth wrapping around me as I let myself to feel relaxed.
