Kai

“You will open the cell and let my father out, or I’ll give this tower a pretty make-over,” I growl, leaning in to him and his obnoxious grin. “Let’s see how good you and your pack members are, and put it to the test to see how far I will get until someone manages to stop me.”

“Kai,” my father warns me, but I ignore him, too focused on the prick pulling a show about being shy.

“I’m really sorry about these circumstances, but you have to understand that I can’t let him walk free in our pack. Even if I really would like to. He is a great guy and a respectable Alpha.” He is an impressive actor, acting as if he were kissing our asses but was bound by the rules of his pack. “And you are idols here. We would know better than to test your strength.”

‘Moron,’ Grim snarls, and I clench my jaw to keep me from punching his stupid face.

“Then let him out,” I state again, straightening my spine to tower over the boy, but he just sighs, shaking his head.

“I’m sorry, but he killed one of our judges on your territory. The packs call for a trial, and we can’t risk them finding out we are treating him like a resort guest on our grounds. Until the High Court has reassembled, I have to insist that he waits for trial in his cell,” Zenis explains.

I inch closer, not keeping my threatening aura to roll off me, and am actually impressed that he doesn’t take a step back.

I think this is a first.

‘Don’t be impressed,’ Moros moans, fighting for dominance. ‘I want to break the fucker’s shiny teeth.’

He is right, they are shiny.

“He wasn’t the one who killed the judge,” I smirk, managing to catch the micro-expression of his fear, before he manages to cover it back up with his usual smugness. “He is just covering the one who did because that’s what fathers do.”

“Kai!” Cayden shouts angrily, probably thinking I would push my brother under the bus. “You will stop it now.”

He is my Alpha and my father, but his dominant aura has fortunately lost its effect on me a long time ago.

“Who was it then?” Zenis lifts a brow, and I flash him my canines.

“I did it.”

“Kai,” my father tries to bring me to reason once again, while Zenis loosens his cool facade, cracking up.

We observe him with furrowed brows as he holds his stomach, nearly about to roll in the dust. I shoot my father a confused look, and he shrugs, supposedly as confused as I am.

Zenis calms down slowly, taking deep breaths and putting his hand in front of him. “I’m so sorry,” he pushes out, laughing, and calming himself down again with a deep inhale. “I didn’t mean to laugh. But you are so funny. Coming into the Royal Pack and thinking you can threaten anyone.”

He puts his hands on his back, stretching as he pushes out another breath. “Oh, you are so precious. And thinking that I would buy the fact that you would be strong enough—”

The idiot isn’t even able to finish the phrase, as my father already shouts, “Kai! No!”

Zenis’ eyes widen at watching the walls transform into red stone, the floor morphing into a sandy surface. “What the fuck?” he whispers to himself, looking at me, frightened. “That shouldn’t be possible in here.”

The sand starts moving, and he steps back and forth, risking falling on his nose. I put my hands into my pockets, watching him do his silly dance from a safe distance.

‘Who is the cool guy now?’ Moros’ growl vibrates from the walls, and Zenis looks around with a shocked expression.

“What the fuck is this?”

“Finally, an expression of yours that matches my taste,” I laugh, feeling my eyes pulsate as I allow Moros to take over just enough to control my subconscious realm. Sending a shockwave through the ground, my demon gets the earth to shake, making the General nearly lose his balance. “Let me show you my strength by tearing you apart.”

He tears his eyes open, aghast about how I must have moved too fast for him to catch it. I grab his uniform by his collar, pulling him closer. “Limb. By. Limb.”

Pushing him, I make him stumble just to move fast, and catch him in a chokehold, lifting him up. “What was the thing you were saying about my strength? I forgot,” I chuckle, Moros’ voice mixing with mine.

I loosen my grip, causing him to fall to the ground, where the sand is forming a whirl. He screams, his hands scrabbling in the sand, desperately trying to find a grip that will keep him from being sucked into hell. Drops of sweat form on his forehead, the heat increases, radiating from the walls, and the sand continues to flow mercilessly while he continues to beg me to stop it. “Please, I was just kidding.”

Crouching down, feeling the quicksand stream along my shoes. I pinch strands of his hair as he gasps for air, and I click my tongue. “You annoy me, actually. I’ll just end this.”

“No, please.” His high-pitched scream echoes from the walls, and I grin, lifting my fingers to make the sand flow faster with a snap of my index and thumb. “Greet the bastard from me.”

Just as I am about to let him drown in my construction, a deep voice stops me.

“Kai.”

Looking over my shoulders, my forearms leaning on my knees, I snicker, seeing my father standing a few steps behind me with his signature frown. “You will free him now and stop this.”

I knew that he had a special training with the witches, wanting to be able to protect my mother after my uncle had dragged her into one of his subconscious rooms to kill us and get her to himself, but I didn’t know he had mastered the task that well.

Throwing my head back in laughter, I get up, looking down smugly at Zenis, and clap my hands twice.

Zenis throws up on the ground, coughing to free his lungs from the residues of the sand that he swallowed, and I turn around to look at my father, who is still standing in his cell in the same position I just saw him, his arms crossed over his chest.

“I’m going to be an awesome Alpha, because I learned from the fucking best,” I gloat, lifting my hands behind my head as the door gets opened with a bang, guards storming in to slam me to the ground.
