Chapter 45 The zenith voice

Chapter 45 The zenith voice

Verena stood up her face filled with undiluted rage. “It is a lie. It's a trick,” she screamed.

“Look at her. Look at her eyes. Astraea was a defect. She was a weak omega. She couldn't stand without shaking.” Verena pointed a shaking finger across the table.

“This is dark magic. Fenris has found a witch and dressed her in the skin of a dead girl to mock us. She is an impostor. A fake, Jaxon. Don't you see the glamour? It’s a spell.”

Astraea stood up, “is it a spell, Jaxon,” she asked, walking around the table. She stopped in front of him.

Jaxon, who had once been taller than her, now felt like he was looking at a mountain.

“Remember the night you left me in the rain because my cold was bad for your luck,” Astraea whispered, her voice reaching every corner of the room.

“Remember the way you laughed when boyce pushed me down the stairs because I was too weak to walk.”

“I was protecting the pack,” Jaxon hissed, his alpha aura flickering like a candle. “You were a blight. You were draining us.”

“I was the only thing keeping you warm.”
Astraea corrected.

She turned, looking at the other alphas who were watching in stunned shock.

“He told you I was a defect. He threw the heart of his kingdom off a cliff and wondered why his world turned to ash.”

“Liar,” Verena shrieked, picking up a plate and throwing it at Astraea.

The plate froze solid, in the middle of the air and broke into tiny pieces. “She is a demon,” Verena turned to the western and eastern Alpha's.

“Are you going to let this happen? Are you going to let this thing pretend to be a queen? She was a servant. She cleaned my floor. She served to me wine.”

“Jaxon, use the Null Stone. Strip the glamour off her.” Jaxon fumbled for the box at his feet.

He brought out the Null Stone shackle. It was a heavy dark iron designed to suppress any kind of magical aura.

“Stay back,” Jaxon roared, coming forward with the chain. “I will show them…. I will show them who you really are, you slut.”

Fenris was on his feet in a heartbeat, his hands on his sword. But Astraea held up her hand. “Let him,” she said. Jaxon slammed the shackles onto Astraea's wrist.

The Null Stone hissed, glowing a dull purple light as it attempted to eat up her power. Jaxon grinned, a wicked triumph light in his eyes.

“See… see,” Jaxon laughed, breathlessly. “Now the spell will break. Then you will turn back into the pathetic dying dog. You…”

The Null Stone began to turn white. The purple glow vanished, replaced by a blinding silver light. The heavy iron began to crack. Then groaned as if an invisible hand was crushing it.

“You can't nullify nature. Jaxon,” Astraea said softly, the shackles exploded.

The broken pieces of null stone flew across the room, embedding themselves into the silver pillars and vibrating with an energy that shouldn't exist.

Jaxon scrambled back, his fingers clawing at the frost covered stone, his golden eyes wide with terror.

“It is a trick,” Jaxon's voice was a rasp. “You are a defect. You are nothing. But a broken, girl I threw away My command... my blood... I am the Alpha!”

Astraea stood at the centre of the hall, the heavenly frost shining like the moon. She looked at Jaxon with a cold, curiosity.

You still don't understand, Jaxon,” she said. “You didn't throw away a defect. You threw away the only thing that kept the blight from your park.”

Astraea closed her eyes, then she exhaled. The air in the pavilion began to glow. From her back, a translucent silver mist erupted, moving upward until it formed a wolf so huge, it reached the ceiling.

It was a creature of pure celestial light. Its fur was made of falling snow, and its eyes were the same silver as Astraea's own.

Behind the wolf, the air rippled and the and the ethereal image of the moon goddess appeared, a faceless figure of star light, her hands rested on the wolf's head.

“The goddess,” Alpha, thorne whispered, his voice cracking. “She is... She is marked.”

One by one, the Alphas in the room, who had spent their life refusing to bow to anyone, felt their legs give way. It wasn't a choice, it was an instinct carved into their DNA by a power older than the packs.

Alpha Kairos hit the floor first, followed by Thorne, then the rest. They pressed their forehead on the ice, shaking under the weight of the silver wolf's gaze.

“No, no, I won't…. I won't allow this. I am the queen.” Verena's voice was a loud noise, cutting through the sacred silence.

“You are a fake. You're a witch,” Verena screamed as she scrambled over the table, her face filled with pure, unadulterated jealousy.

She ran towards Astraea, her finger curling into claws, her eyes red. “I will tear your pretty face off. I will show them that you are just skin and bones, you are nothing, you were my servant.”

She never reached her. A huge hand shot out, catching Verena's wrist in the middle of the air. The sound of bones cracking made the nearby councilors flinch.

Fenris stood there, his volcanic Orange eyes burning with a heat that threatened to melt her. He simply leaned down, his face inches from hers, and let his true beast the Ancient King show through his pupils.

“You want to touch my queen with those filthy hands.” Fenris voice was a low, terrifying sound.

Verena gasped. She looked into Fenris eyes and saw her own death in a thousand different ways. Her bravery vanished her face went pale.

A warm, dark stain began to spread across the front of her gown, dropping onto the floor. The smell of urine filled the air. Fenris lips curled in disgust. He threw her aside like a piece of trash.

Verena fell into a heap, crying and holding herself. She had been reduced to a broken mess on the floor. Jaxon watched his mates fall, but his mind was elsewhere.

He was a drowning man, reaching for the only weapon he had left. He stood up, his eyes glowing gold.

He summoned every power in his alpha blood, every command that had ruled the Shadow fang pack for generations.

“Astraea,” Jaxon shouted. His aura hit in the room like a physical blast. “I am your alpha. By the blood and the bone, I command you”

“COME TO ME! KNEEL AT MY FEET!”

The command was so powerful that the nearby servants collapsed, holding their head.

The golden wave went towards Astraea. A translucent silver shield pulsed around her.

The command bounced off the shield and went back to Jaxon, hitting him like a hammer on his chest.

He gasped, blood leaking from his nose as he stumbled back. Astraea began to laugh.

“You think you still have power over me, Jaxon?” she asked, walking towards him.

ENOUGH!!!
