Chapter 59
Chapter 59
Isabella couldn't help but scratch her hair, wailing inwardly.
She must be crazy. How could love be more important than work? She should stop having these foolish fantasies!
Meanwhile, in the office, William stared at the spot where Isabella had just been sitting, his thin lips curving into a faint smile.
He had gone through countless secretaries, but Isabella was the only female one.
Although Isabella usually seemed timid and submissive, she was smart and sensible, worked with great discretion, never crossed boundaries, and was so capable that he had come to rely on her.
More importantly, whenever he was with Isabella, he felt very at ease.
This sense of ease had long exceeded the boundaries between boss and subordinate. Perhaps, as Zachary had said, his heart had already been captured by Isabella.
When Isabella got home, Saskia was still nowhere to be seen, so she made a point of calling her.
When Saskia answered, her voice sounded extremely tired.
"Saskia, are you okay? Why haven't you been home for a whole day and night? I'm really worried about your safety."
Saskia sighed heavily on the other end.
"I really want to come back, but the female department head is making things difficult for me. I've been working overtime at the company this whole time. Under these circumstances, I can't just quit; otherwise, how can I get close to Stanley?"
Hearing this, Isabella felt quite helpless.
"But even so, your health is still more important than love. Saskia, I know you really like Mr. Martinez, but this way of getting close to him is really hurting you. You should reconsider."
Although Saskia was the Fuller family's daughter and had people to back her up no matter what she did, if things continued this way and Saskia kept working overtime, not only would she fail to get close to Stanley, but her health would also break down.
As Saskia's friend, she was really worried about her safety.
Saskia was silent for a moment on the other end, then sighed again.
"Isabella, you're right. I'll come back after I finish what I'm working on, and as for what happens after that, we'll deal with it later."
After hanging up, Isabella calculated when Saskia would be back, first went to the supermarket to buy groceries, then made a whole table full of dishes.
Just as the last dish was being served, Saskia dragged her tired body through the door.
The moment she smelled the food, her eyes lit up, and she couldn't help but rush toward Isabella.
"Isabella, you're so good to me! Did you make all this food to reward me?"
Isabella touched her hair.
"Of course. You've been working overtime for so long, you definitely need to replenish your energy. Go wash your hands and eat."
Saskia quickly washed her hands, walked to the dining table, and sat down across from Isabella, but didn't rush to eat. Instead, she propped her cheeks with both hands and looked at Isabella seriously.
"Isabella, do you think I'm doing the wrong thing? Actually, when I was abroad, many men pursued me, but I wasn't interested in any of them. Now, I'm chasing after another man, and I'm starting to look down on myself."
Isabella smiled, picked up her fork, and put a piece of beef into her bowl.
"Even if I told you to give up now, you wouldn't be willing to, so just follow your heart for now. If you really get tired later, I'll always be here."
Saskia felt touched.
When she was abroad, everyone who approached her did so for the Fuller family's power and influence. Over the years, only Isabella truly cared about her and looked after her.
Having a friend like Isabella was her good fortune.
After dinner, Isabella and Saskia chatted for a while, and she learned from Saskia that Stanley had been busy with project matters lately and was rarely to be seen.
So Saskia hadn't really seen Stanley at all, and she didn't even know that the Martinez family had held a banquet.
After listening, Isabella stared silently at the white ceiling, suddenly feeling somewhat emotional.
If she had a family background like Saskia's, perhaps she too would throw caution to the wind for love.
But she was just an ordinary person. Between her and William, there was a chasm that could never be crossed.
Isabella fell asleep with complicated feelings.
At nine o'clock the next morning, Isabella followed William to the Martinez Group.
In the conference room on the top floor of the Martinez Group, there was dead silence, and the atmosphere had been oppressive to the extreme from the start.
Stanley sat in the main seat, wearing a black custom-tailored suit, his face cold and stern, his eyes sharp as knives, sweeping over everyone present, naturally carrying an oppressive presence.
His assistant sat beside him, with the proposal Isabella had made placed in front of him, but he hadn't even opened it.
When William arrived with Isabella, this was the scene they saw upon entering.
Stanley heard the movement, and the corner of his eye immediately fell on Isabella, with obvious scrutiny and displeasure.
"I've already said that the Brown Group can bring anyone, just not this female secretary. It seems Mr. Brown doesn't really value our cooperation very much."
When it came to work, William and Stanley had always maintained a strictly professional attitude.
His expression was calm, completely unaffected by Stanley's words.
"Isabella created our strategic cooperation proposal this time, so she must attend. If you're dissatisfied with this, then we can cancel our cooperation right now."
Isabella, behind him, couldn't help but widen her eyes.
Had William gone crazy?
Everyone knew how important this cooperation was to both the Martinez Group and the Brown Group, yet William was openly saying he would cancel the cooperation, and all for her sake?
If word got out, what would people think of her?
Although she was happy that William would stand up for her, she didn't want to become someone's enemy even more.
Stanley was also surprised by William's attitude and couldn't help but take another look at Isabella.
He hadn't read Isabella's document, and in fact, when he saw Isabella's name on it, he had almost felt the urge to throw the document in the trash.
If it weren't for William's sake, this document would never have appeared in his office.
He didn't even believe, when he saw the document, that it could have been created by Isabella.
Isabella was indeed beautiful, giving the first impression of being just an ornamental piece for viewing. How could such a person be capable of handling the cooperation proposal between the Brown Group and the Martinez Group?
He felt that William had truly lost his reason, bewitched by Isabella.
Stanley snorted coldly.
"Mr. Brown really does protect your female secretary."
"Mr. Martinez, I'm just speaking the truth."
William calmly took his seat, his posture composed, completely unintimidated by Stanley's presence. Isabella stood quietly at William's side, neither humble nor arrogant, her expression professional, holding a tablet and notebook in her hands, ready to record key points of the meeting at any time.
In the silence, Stanley's slender fingertips lightly tapped the table. His gaze finally fell on the proposal, but he only glanced at the cover before looking at Isabella again.
