Chapter 19 NO RELEASE.
Chapter 19 NO RELEASE.
Isabel’s POV.
The small, square cardstock felt like a burning piece of paper in my palm. How did he know to keep the paper there.
I looked around for a camera but didn’t find any.
He hadn't even given me the courtesy of having a night away from him. He called me in the middle of the evening, while Lena’s cheerful voice was discussing dress cuts just twenty feet away.
Panic seized my chest, squeezing the air from my lungs. I crumpled the note and stuffed it into the pocket of my skirt, turning too quickly to face the doorway.
Lena looked up from her tablet, her eyebrows raised. “Did your mother actually need something that urgent? You look like you just saw a ghost, Izzy.”
“It’s… the Gala” I managed, the lie tasting like dust. I made my voice tight, formal, the way my mother always sounded when she was about to ruin someone’s dinner party. “They’ve switched tables. It’s a mess. I need to confirm the changes with Mrs. Albright immediately, or the entire seating plan for the Gala will collapse.”
Lena rolled her eyes, instantly bored by the logistics. “Go. Save the dynasty. Just try on the black velvet when you get back.”
“I will.”
I didn't give myself time to think. Thinking meant stopping. Stopping meant letting the fear win. I practically ran to the small, door of the library—the servants’ way out—and slipped into the service corridor.
My heart slamming against my ribs like a prisoner trying to escape.
The small elevator ride was agonizingly slow. I stared at the metal doors, willing them to hurry. The guilt was already a fresh, hot burn, mingling with the frantic adrenaline of being summoned.
When the elevator doors finally ding open, I was on his floor.
I walked to his door, my hand trembling too hard to knock. I just reached for the handle and turned it.
It was unlocked. He was waiting.
I walked inside and closed the door shut behind me.
The room was dim, lit only by a heavy desk lamp that cast stark shadows across the room. He wasn't in his armchair tonight. He was standing by the enormous, dark wood desk—the place where he had touched me last time.
He was wearing a simple, black crew-neck shirt and black trousers and his arms were crossed over his chest. He looked strong, contained, and utterly dominant.
“You came quickly,” he stated, but I heard the mockery beneath it
“I came because you asked me to” I corrected, forcing the words to be steady, fighting the urge to apologize for the delay.
He nodded once. “Good. Compliance is non-negotiable.”
He didn't move toward me. He just stood there, letting the pressure build. I felt my skin prickle, my body remembering the touch from two nights ago—the demand, the relief, the shame.
“You have five minutes before your Cousin starts looking for you.” he hummed, “We will use them effectively.”
He finally moved, but only to place his hand on the desk, right next to where the map had been. He didn't touch me yet, but the action felt like a cage being put in place.
I walked toward the desk, compelled by the undeniable attraction to this man.
When I reached him, he lifted his hand and placed it on my waist. It was a simple touch, yet it felt like a tingle up my spin.
“The Sandon bid requires a vote tomorrow night,” he murmured, his gaze holding mine. “Adrian hasn’t secured the necessary votes from the minority partners. He is too busy worrying about the centerpieces for the Gala.”
He leaned closer, his lips brushing the curve of my ear. The intense, clean scent of him swallowed my breath.
“Tell me what Adrian is prioritizing over the Sandon deal,” he commanded.
My body was already trembling under the subtle pressure of his hand on my waist, the memory of his previous touch a fire under my skin. I couldn't think clearly.
“He is… he is focused on the new yacht,” I whispered, the words tight and strained. “The paperwork arrived this morning. He wants it painted dark grey, not black. He spent an hour on the phone with the shipyard.”
“Dark grey, not black,” Damien repeated, his voice devoid of humor.
His hand tightened on my waist, then slid under the hem of my silk blouse. The cold air hit my skin, followed immediately by the heat of his fingers. He moved slowly, tracing the line of my spine upwards.
I gasped, my hands flying up to grip the edge of the desk, bracing myself. The world narrowed down to the sensation of his touch.
He pulled me closer against the hard wall of his chest. His mouth descended on mine, a kiss that was hungry, and everything I wanted. I kissed him back instantly, giving myself over to the only thing that could silence the chaos in my mind.
He broke the kiss, his breathing rough, and then his hand moved—not to pull my clothes away, but to find the zipper of my skirt.
The sudden intimacy was shocking. I tensed, but I didn't pull away. I couldn't.
He lowered his head again, his lips brushing my ear. “This is the price of keeping your marriage clean, Isabel. The price of your reputation.”
He didn't wait for my answer. He used his fingers, He found me easily, expertly, fucking me with his fingers.
The sensation was immediate. I arched against him, a low, broken sound escaping my throat, clinging to the edge of the desk as the pleasure and the shame fought a desperate battle inside me.
He didn't stop. He didn't pause for my breath or my protest. He pushed me toward the edge, demanding I give everything to him.
Just as the pressure heightened. Just as my vision started to blur and I felt the wave building, he paused.
He pulled his hand away, leaving my body burning, aching, frantic for the release he had just denied me.
He took a step back, and put the same two fingers that had just been inside me into his mouth and straightened the line of his shirt, completely composed. He looked at me—gasping, trembling, my skirt slightly shifted—with the detached satisfaction of a man who had collected his dues.
“The yacht detail is useful,” he said, his mind already back on business. “Now you may return to your cousin.”
I stood by the desk, a shaking wreck of sensation and shame. He had given me no pleasure, only the agonizing anticipation of it. He had confirmed that the physical act was not for enjoyment, but for power.
I fixed my clothes, pulling down my skirt with hands that shook uncontrollably. I managed a weak nod. I didn’t trust my voice so I didn’t use it.
I walked to the door, opened it, and slipped out, leaving the gaze of my debt collector.
I took the stairs this time, unable to face the slow confinement of the elevator. I ran down the service hall, fueled by shame and adrenaline, until I reached the library door.
I paused, took three deep, ragged breaths, and forced a calm, neutral expression onto my face. I had to go back to Lena and talk about velvet. I had to pretend nothing had happened.
I pushed the door open.
“Back! Good. So, velvet or taffeta?” Lena asked, looking up, oblivious.
“Velvet,” I heard myself say, the word sounding hollow and strange.
I was back in my life, standing next to my cousin.
He had called. I had answered. I was his. And tomorrow, at the Gala, I would be Adrian's wife for the cameras, and Damien's property in the night.
