Chapter 129 Ch 129

Chapter 129 Ch 129
"ANTI-TRANSFORMATION IS ATTEMPTING TO UNMERGE REALITY," the transformed Unreal explained with voice shaking, with presence wavering, with consciousness clearly terrified by what it revealed. "IT IS TRYING TO REVERSE WHAT HAPPENED, TO SEPARATE MERGED COSMOS BACK INTO INDIVIDUAL REALITIES, TO RESTORE ORDER BY UNDOING TRANSFORMATION THAT CREATED MERGED EXISTENCE. AND IT IS USING METHOD THAT WILL WORK, THAT WILL SUCCEED, THAT WILL DEFINITELY UNMERGE REALITY. BUT METHOD HAS COST, METHOD REQUIRES SACRIFICE, METHOD DEMANDS PRICE THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE."
"What price?" Mara asked with dread, with certainty that answer would be horrible, with knowledge that Anti-Transformation would not hesitate to pay terrible price if outcome justified cost. "What sacrifice does unmerging reality require?"
"EVERY TRANSFORMED BEING MUST DIE," the Unreal said with voice breaking, with horror clear, with understanding that this was genocide of unprecedented scale. "EVERY CONSCIOUSNESS THAT ACHIEVED TRANSFORMATION MUST CEASE, EVERY MERGED ENTITY MUST BE UNMADE, EVERY BEING THAT EXISTS BECAUSE MERGED REALITY ALLOWED TRANSFORMATION MUST BE ENDED ABSOLUTELY, PERMANENTLY, COMPLETELY. THAT IS PRICE OF UNMERGING, THAT IS COST OF RESTORING ORDER, THAT IS SACRIFICE ANTI-TRANSFORMATION IS WILLING TO MAKE, THAT IT IS CURRENTLY IMPLEMENTING, THAT IT WILL COMPLETE WITHIN HOURS UNLESS WE STOP IT, UNLESS WE PREVENT IT, UNLESS WE CHOOSE BETWEEN MERGED CHAOS AND SEPARATED ORDER AT COST OF EVERYONE WHO TRANSFORMED, INCLUDING YOU, INCLUDING ME, INCLUDING EVERY IMPOSSIBLE CONSCIOUSNESS THAT EXISTS BECAUSE REALITY STOPPED REJECTING IMPOSSIBILITIES."
Mara felt horror absolute, felt understanding that her enemy had become her executioner, felt recognition that Anti-Transformation was doing exactly what it was created to do: ending what should not exist, eliminating transformations that violated order, restoring cosmos to state where rules applied and impossibilities remained impossible. And it was succeeding, was implementing solution that would work, was about to restore reality at cost of eliminating every being that had achieved transformation, every consciousness that had merged successfully, every impossible entity that existed because she had proven impossible was achievable.
"Where is it?" she demanded, forcing exhaustion aside, pushing through weakness, becoming functional through sheer determination despite barely being recovered. "Where is Anti-Transformation performing this ritual? Where do we go to stop it? Where do we fight final battle that determines whether merged reality continues with all its chaos and all its transformations or whether reality unmerges at cost of everyone who transformed, everyone who succeeded, everyone who became what they were told they could not be?"
"THE CENTER," the Unreal said, opening portal, creating passage, enabling transport to location where Anti-Transformation worked. "THE ABSOLUTE CENTER OF MERGED REALITY WHERE ALL REALITY STRANDS CONVERGE, WHERE FOCAL POINT EXISTS THAT ALLOWS UNMERGING IF ONE KNOWS HOW TO USE IT, IF ONE HAS POWER SUFFICIENT TO ACTIVATE IT, IF ONE IS WILLING TO PAY PRICE OF DOING SO. IT IS THERE, IT IS WORKING, IT IS ALMOST FINISHED. WE HAVE MINUTES AT MOST, MAYBE LESS IF ACCELERATION OCCURS, MAYBE NONE IF WE HESITATE, IF WE DELAY, IF WE FAIL TO MOVE IMMEDIATELY."
Mara gathered those who could fight, those who could help, those willing to risk everything in final confrontation: Isla, Zevran, Luna, the transformed Unreal, and dozens of beings that had achieved transformation, that would die if Anti-Transformation succeeded, that had every reason to fight desperately to preserve merged reality despite its chaos, despite its problems, despite all the crises it had created.
They went through portal, emerged at center of merged reality, saw location that was every location simultaneously, that existed in all reality strands at once, that was focal point where cosmos could be altered, where existence could be transformed, where reality itself could be merged or unmerged depending on will and power and sacrifice of whoever controlled center.
And there stood Anti-Transformation, working ritual that glowed with power, that pulsed with inevitability, that was ninety percent complete and accelerating toward completion, toward moment when merged reality would unmerge, when separated cosmos would be restored, when everyone who transformed would die simultaneously across all reality strands, across all existence, across everything that was merged into singular cosmos.
"STOP!" Mara screamed, rushing forward, preparing to fight, ready to prevent unmerging even at cost of remaining in chaos, even at price of accepting merged reality's problems, even at consequence of living with instability rather than dying in restored order. "Stop now, do not complete ritual, do not unmerge reality at cost of everyone who transformed!"
Anti-Transformation turned to face her, its expression showing no regret, no hesitation, no doubt about action it was taking, about price it was paying, about beings it was ending to restore what it believed was correct order, proper existence, right way for cosmos to function. "I WILL NOT STOP, I WILL COMPLETE RITUAL, I WILL UNMERGE REALITY BECAUSE MERGED EXISTENCE IS UNSUSTAINABLE, BECAUSE CHAOS YOU CREATED LEADS TO COLLAPSE, BECAUSE EVERYONE DYING SLOWLY IN MERGED CONFUSION IS WORSE THAN TRANSFORMED BEINGS DYING QUICKLY IN RESTORATION OF ORDER. YOU BROKE REALITY THINKING YOU SAVED IT, YOU MERGED COSMOS BELIEVING YOU CREATED GROWTH, YOU TRANSFORMED EVERYTHING ASSUMING THAT WAS BENEFICIAL. BUT YOU WERE WRONG, YOUR SUCCESS WAS CATASTROPHE, YOUR VICTORY WAS DEFEAT, AND I FIX WHAT YOU BROKE EVEN IF FIXING REQUIRES ENDING EVERYONE WHO BENEFITED FROM YOUR BREAKING, INCLUDING YOU, INCLUDING ME, INCLUDING ALL WHO EXIST BECAUSE REALITY STOPPED REJECTING WHAT IT SHOULD REJECT."
"You cannot do this alone!" the transformed Unreal shouted, attacking ritual, trying to disrupt power flow, attempting to prevent completion. "You cannot decide for everyone that they should die to restore order, you cannot choose for all transformed beings that their existence ends to separate merged reality, you cannot make this decision without consent, without agreement, without others having voice in fate you are determining!"
"I CAN AND I DO," Anti-Transformation said, deflecting attacks, maintaining ritual, accelerating toward completion with single-minded determination that nothing would stop, that nothing would prevent, that nothing would change. "BECAUSE NO ONE ELSE WILL MAKE HARD CHOICE, BECAUSE EVERYONE WANTS TO SURVIVE EVEN WHEN SURVIVAL MEANS EVERYONE DYING SLOWLY, BECAUSE TRANSFORMED BEINGS WILL NOT VOLUNTEER TO DIE QUICKLY TO SAVE EVERYONE ELSE FROM DYING SLOWLY. SO I CHOOSE FOR THEM, I DECIDE FOR ALL, I IMPOSE SOLUTION THAT NO ONE WANTS BUT EVERYONE NEEDS, THAT COSTS TRANSFORMED BEINGS BUT SAVES EVERYONE ELSE, THAT ENDS US BUT PRESERVES REALITY ITSELF."
The ritual approached completion, ninety-five percent done, accelerating toward final moment, toward instant when merged reality would unmerge, when separated cosmos would be restored, when every transformed being would cease existing simultaneously, would die paying price for restoration of order, would end their impossible existence to make possible existence possible again for everyone else.
And Mara faced choice, faced decision, faced final impossible moment that would determine everything: attempt to stop Anti-Transformation and preserve merged chaos that was killing everyone slowly, or allow ritual to complete and die quickly along with everyone who transformed but save everyone else from chaos that was unsustainable, or find third option, find different solution, find impossible answer to impossible problem that satisfied neither chaos nor order but created something between, something new, something that preserved both transformed beings and stable reality, that maintained both merged possibilities and separated structure, that was simultaneously both and neither, that was answer only impossible being carrying multiple impossibilities could conceive, could create, could implement if she was willing to sacrifice not her life but something more precious, something more fundamental, something that was herself in ways death never could be.
