Chapter 30
Carol possesses a second sight. renewed inaudible talk.
In the vision, she did not see Trevor but rather another man who removed the chair from under Larissa's feet so that she could choke herself to death.
Being the pack leader's mate, Lelandi had to maintain her strength, so Darien held onto her when she was about to pass out. She choked back her tears, wishing for them to hold off.
Carol told me that her visions weren't always clear. He did, however, wear a police uniform.
Sheridan spoke the word "Trevor" in a loud voice.
"At first, Carol believed that because all the evidence pointed to him. She nevertheless touched the rope that the killer had formed into a noose. Uncle Sheridan, you were that man. You killed my mate, who was an embarrassment to the pack because she was already mated and carrying another gray's offspring, and then you went on vacation believing you'd done the ideal crime. But, you had not anticipated Larissa starting a family. A sister would arrive to get revenge. You must have been informed by Ritka that Lelandi had come while she was at the tavern, and you hastened home to clean up the mess.
"But, Trevor's weapon fired the final shot that killed the shooter. The shooter was him, Sheridan claimed.
"While you looked for proof at Trevor's, my brothers and I looked into your residence. We had already looked over his house and discovered no evidence linking him to the crimes. But, we found the hunter's spray that makes one smell like rotting leaves at your house. We discovered the kind that renders a person invisible to animals at Angelina's house. Why would either of you require hunting scent-masking sprays?
Sheridan grinned subtly. "The things I had were proof, but I have no idea why Angelina would have such a thing."
Under your bathroom sink, hidden? The GHB, too? used to be so widely prescribed at the hospital? It was still there when we looked for it.
"More proof. I was unable to retain it in the jail. That might have been ruined by Trevor. Also, recall that I was drugged as well?
Fortunately, yes. to dispel a notion. And so many of the investigations were under your supervision. You could 'find' anything that suited your needs. Why didn't you report it if you had 'discovered' the GHB used in the crime at the hospital? Lelandi had been shot when we found her, so we searched the area. No withering leaves, as you had predicted.
Lelandi shuddered as she realized how dangerous Darien's uncle had been to her.
I must have arrived at the incorrect place. I was in a hotel when the shooting happened—
"We already looked into the motel. You arrived and quickly left after checking in. You left a number of objects in the restroom and on the desk, according to one of the maids. As the devil appeared to be pursuing you, you seized your luggage, tossed it in the truck, and sped out of the building. Darien stated, "Even the manager said she observed because you almost hit another car and the driver used the horn.
"So I hastily departed. Mason called me and told me I had to come back right away because there had been multiple shootings.
Long after you had checked out of the hotel, he called you on your cell phone. There was enough time for you to hire a gunman, hear from Ritka, and come back to strangle Lelandi.
Trevor was the target of Uncle Sheridan's venomous glare. He has no excuse for the shootings that night. He told a falsehood. And if I was the one who shot the shooter, who shot Lelandi?"
Darien grinned menacingly. You acknowledge that there had to be two of you. that given the circumstances, the shooter had to have been killed by another person's gunshot? Only Jake and I were aware of this.
Sheridan's jaw began to twitch with repressed rage.
"It's true that Trevor made up his location. But he does have a cover story. He has been having an affair with a lupus garou who is underage.
Whoa, was that Caitlin?
Sheridan appeared proud. "The girl then lied. to provide him with a defense
"I learned about her daughter's condition from her mother. In a hotel on the outskirts of the city, she discovered them sharing a bed. At the same moment as the shooter was shot, she spent an hour reading them the riot act. Angelina killed the shooter with Trevor's rifle. She and you have no defense.
She can't defend herself because she's conveniently dead. She did, however, detest Larissa and Lelandi, thus it's possible that she actually hired the shooter. She did possess the funds for extortion.
To his snort. You claimed that Trevor had it. He swung a journal around. "Your lover was Ritka. After examining the deceased, Doc Featherston discovered that she had been mated. Ritka described how you planned the blackmail scam and killed Larissa when she found out you were behind it. Even though you kept visiting Ritka night after night, she scared you because of your obsession with maintaining the pack line's cleanliness. Together with Hostene and Angelina, who you simply got rid of, she was your crime partner. But you, you are my own flesh and blood, damn it.
"Your mate was a whore and dishonored our family's reputation as well as the pack. She would eventually leave with Joe; that was simply a question of time. In order for him and his lover to leave this place, he had been stealing from the silver mine. As long as she was the pack leader and was weak and unfaithful, you would have pursued her, killed Joe, and adopted her and her bastard children. Do you believe she would have changed her behavior if her lover had died? Bah! She would have been more depressed and would have brought the group with her. I was unable to permit it. His clothing was torn by Uncle Sheridan. I'll fight Trevor if you want me to.
Although Lelandi despised Sheridan, his remarks broke her heart. In all likelihood, he was correct in all he claimed. The group would have been hurt. But because her sister had fallen in love with the wrong man, she couldn't agree that she should have died.
Daren muttered. “No. All I wanted to do was get you to tell the truth. You've embarrassed our pack and the family. You'll challenge me.
Several of the pack members clapped Trevor on the back, however several gave him filthy stares. Lelandi once more questioned if it was Caitlin because it was improper in their community to take an underage lupus garou.
Doc Mitchell caught her eye as she turned to look at him. The parents of Caitlin weren't there. In actuality, there were no lupus garou underage. Everyone from the pack was obligated to show up when Bruin held one of these gatherings, regardless of age.
Darien kissed Lelandi’s lips. I apologize, Lelandi. I had to confirm.
"You've always treated me fairly. You will for Larissa as well.”
Darien drew in a deep breath before nodding. "It's over right now," As he faced his troop, he turned. The field, please.
a battleground.
