Chapter 15
Shaking his head, Darien. She made it clear that she was unsure of his location. He trusted her since she appeared to be in tears. “I suppose this guy’s fur made up the patch of fur we discovered in the woods. He’s most likely hiding out somewhere close to the hospital.
When Darien tried to lock the door with the key, a window slid open inside. A person is inside. His blood started to heat up as soon as he unlocked the door, but it was blocked by something. “In the back.”
Mrs. Hastings sprang out of the way as they rushed along the corridor, spilling the water pitcher. Darien and his uncle pounded on the back door while dashing inside the kitchen. There was no trace of any intrusion, but there were footprints on the trimmed lawn that was sheltered by the fir trees that surrounded the woodland. They hurried to Larissa’s room’s back side. They could no longer see anything because the window had been locked and the drapes drawn shut.
With a loud smash, Uncle Sheridan seized a flowerpot and broke the glass, launching earth, golden mums, and pieces of clay pottery into the air.
Mrs. Hastings would become irrational.
With the exception of the dresser jammed up against the door obstructing it and the mess his uncle had made, they were able to remove enough of the glass to climb through the window and discover the space tidy as if the maid had just done the cleaning.
Shaking his head, Darien reasoned that the intruder had come seeking for the identical piece of evidence as he was. The lace-covered canopy bed, the space underneath it, the dressers and bedside tables, the closet, and the tiny bathroom were all investigated by him and Sheridan, but they came up empty-handed. Nothing, not a toothbrush, comb, bag, garment, or anything else.
Darien then noticed a tiny rise in the mattress on the right side of the bed. He approached the bed with a swagger and pulled up the coverlet. In one particular area, the mattress rode high. He discovered the grip of a revolver by shoving his hand between the mattress and box spring. His heart beat more vigorously. He took the 9mm out, examined the safety, then took the bullets out and looked at them.
Uncle Sheridan scowled as he closer inspected them, “Silver.” “She should be jailed on that basis. Having a gun with the intention of killing a lupus garou. She’s a loose cannon, in the hell, Darien.
The rounds were stuffed into Darien’s pocket while the gun was tucked under his belt. She is no longer a danger.
More sighing was heard from Uncle Sheridan.
They returned to the lobby and found Mrs. Hastings there, her countenance gloomy, after pushing the dresser out of the way of the door. As he and his uncle nearly ran her over, she spilt water on the wood floor and scuffed it up with a mop.
She was given the key by Darien. “The door was blocked and someone was inside the room. The window needed to be broken. Charge it to my account, please.
Taking the key, Mrs. Hastings circled the counter. The poor little thing isn’t safe at all. Her eyes widened as she cast a quick peek at the revolver concealed in Darien’s belt. She had packed, right?
He didn’t want to argue with his uncle about the gun again, so he asked, “Was there anything else you can remember about her?”
Mrs. Hastings indicated the loft’s meandering staircase. “You may look around there. One of my adolescent visitors informed me that a woman was sobbing while reading a letter.
That was Lelandi’s sister when I began my investigation. I didn’t see any letter, so she must have wiped away her tears.
Uncle Sheridan hurried to the loft by climbing the stairs.
“Have you got any other memories?” Nothing in her room indicated that she had ever been there, according to Darien.
“Once the visitors had left for the day, Emma cleaned the rooms. Nothing was mentioned by her. Mrs. Hastings took another look at the weapon.
Uncle Sheridan re-joined them after stomping down the stairs. “Nothing.”
As Darien had guessed. Like her sister, the woman was a mystery. Uncle Sheridan, hurry up. Let’s speak with the little lady once more.
Darien crouched over Larissa’s hospital bed with tension seething through every pore as Uncle Sheridan stood close with his arms folded. Uncle Sheridan was really frustrated with Trevor since he still couldn’t find him.
Larissa appeared to be a charming, innocent angel with her face shrouded in sleep. Nevertheless the heart of a warrior beat within that small frame.
Darien tried to control his displeasure when she groggily opened her eyes, but his voice bordered on a low, ominous growl. Where the hell is that dang letter?
Doc entered Lelandi’s hospital room, his shock of white hair tousled. “I didn’t order the young girl to be constantly questioned; I ordered bed rest.”
Darien looked at him angrily. He knew the doctor was correct, despite his desire to deny it, yet
He wanted solutions right away to resolve this issue involving Lelandi and her sister.
Lelandi would have grinned if she had the ability to do so. The tall, elderly white-haired man reminded her of her beloved uncle. It’s a shame that he abandoned the pack when she was young and went rogue. He was too dominant an alpha to put up with the pack leader, but he wasn’t powerful enough to take control. Nonetheless, Doc appeared to be able to defend himself and has a sympathetic side that made him likeable like her uncle.
Dark amber was the same shade as his eyes. He had big hands and a masculine chin. The identical happy smile. Unless he confronted Darien, that is. The doctor gave him a deathly glare. Who would triumph in the contest this time?
“You’re the boss, but feel free to also serve as the doctor. If not, let the woman to rest.
I need some explanations, Darien yelled.
“Get them early in the day.” Doc took a strong stance, hands on hips.
Silva was signaled to leave by Darien.
Silva gave him an indignant glance before approaching the bed and patting Lelandi’s hand. “Sugar, I’ll see you in the morning. Don’t be scared by the large, dangerous wolves.
Lelandi tried to grin, but she couldn’t seem to control her body.
Uncle Sheridan, too, will talk to you tomorrow, Darien added, dismissing him.
If I have any last-minute breaking news, get with me. The sheriff scowled and gave the doctor a frustrated look before leaving the room.
Silva vacated his seat, and Darien sat down.
“Your sibling is soundly asleep. Sam was eventually silenced. Consider that based on the way he speaks, he has been waging World War III by himself. But she has to rest because she was the most seriously hurt.
Darien gave her a scowl. “Dr, I hear you. But I need to be aware of our opponents.
Lelandi was certain that she had smiled at the time, and Darien had seen it. She was powerless to stop. Who would have thought that a gray could force the leader to yield?
This time, Darien crossed his arms and returned her nasty grin.
The doctor inhaled deeply. Peter is on duty as a guard. Trevor will adhere to him.
“Fine. After you leave, will you please shut the door? After giving a quick nod, the doctor left the room.
