465- The Taste of Blood and Satisfaction
POV Thalyndra Moonclaw:
My stomach churned. I placed my hand over my belly, lifting my thoughts far away from what he was saying, trying not to imagine the scene.
"The idea is very good," Anton commented. "We can put a hand as well, the hand on which they wear the Merchant ring, so it becomes very clear which people they belong to."
I gasped, perplexed.
"I think it is better to bury it; I cannot imagine it would be a very pretty sight," I whispered.
Vladren whistled.
"Finally, someone who thinks coherently in this pack."
Anton laughed.
"Someone who does not share the same sense of humor as us." He winked at me.
I stiffened, irritated.
"I can show you exactly how far my sense of humor goes," I hissed through my teeth, clenching my hands at my sides.
No one. Absolutely no one could irritate me like Anton Eldoria did.
He pressed one hand over his heart as if he had been struck in that very spot.
"No need; we are all well aware of the violence you carry."
Edric and Vladren burst out laughing.
I stared at him, fixing my gaze on his full, utterly kissable lips that I had already had the pleasure of tasting. My throat went dry. It was thirst, certainly, and not an absurd desire to repeat the experience.
He half-closed his eyes on me, a distinct gleam appearing in each of them. One golden and the other green. Man and wolf.
I felt the magnetism pulling me toward him, as if an invisible energy field had been created around us. I blinked, keeping my eyes closed for a few seconds, trying to free myself from it, to break the contact. When I opened them again, I fixed my gaze on Edric and Vladren, ignoring him.
Looking at him had been becoming an increasingly difficult task. I needed to control my cycle; perhaps it was the heat approaching. I did not know for sure; I only knew it was not my normal state. Nor was it that of any woman I had begun to live with since I arrived in Eldoria, from what I had noticed.
"I am going to take a shower," I announced, stepping backward and moving away slowly.
Anton turned to me, flashing me a half-smile laden with mockery and derision.
No!
If he said what I thought he was going to say, especially in front of his father, I would be forced to kill him. Unfortunately.
I shook my head in denial and narrowed my eyes, threatening him silently. He understood what I was saying, just as I knew what he wanted to say.
"Want company?" I could have sworn I heard those words with his voice in my mind.
He opened his mouth, then closed it, giving up on dropping the unfunny joke. I sighed in relief.
I nodded and spun on my heels, practically running out of the office.
Anton was an annoying, funny idiot. He never missed an opportunity to irritate me. How could such nice people as Edric and Lunara have produced a son like him?
I crossed the lumberyard with heavy steps, swinging my arms at my sides.
I would not let him irritate me and take away the full satisfaction I felt at having killed my first Merchant. The first of many.
I ignored the frightened looks and kept my steps firm toward the Eldoria house. I was already accustomed enough to know that soon I would become the subject of gossip around the village. It was like that in every university and school I had attended. As the new student more times than I could count, I ended up becoming the center of attention.
But... I would not let anything shake my peace. Not Anton, not the gossip, and no one else. I walked reeking of Merchant, of the blood that covered my body and hands. The first life I had reaped, the beginning of my revenge. I would kill many, at least enough so that the pain I carried could somehow be soothed by their deaths.
