164- Valmorin’s Secret

164- Valmorin’s Secret
POV Lunara Grimwald:

“Aldren didn’t allow it, little she-wolf.”

“And you’re not going to do anything?” I sobbed.

“Elowen invaded his territory. It’s beyond my limit. Just like when I took you for myself—imagine if Aldren, or any of the other alphas, had invaded my territory to take you?”

“But she’s my sister.” I laid my head on his shoulder and cried.

“And she’s still in a cage.”

“I know, Lunara. But I trust Aldren, and I know he won’t harm your sister. Now he knows who she really is—I told him about Elowen. He’ll do the right thing.”

“He’s a heartless monster.”

“Please, stop crying. It breaks my heart,” he pleaded. I pulled back and looked at him, sniffling.

“There really isn’t anything you can do?” He shook his head.

“If I take Elowen, it will mean a war between Aldren and me. And I won’t step into any war right now—not with him, and certainly not with my pregnant female. It’s too great a risk, and I won’t take it.”

I understood Edric’s fear—the dread of doing something that could harm me and the pup. He almost lost me. He almost lost us, because of Alessio.

But knowing Elowen was so close to me, and that I couldn’t see her, destroyed me. For months, all I’d done was try to build a safe home for the two of us. And if that wasn’t possible, then at least to let her be free and happy. Finding out she was trapped in a damn cage by a shitty alpha hadn’t been part of my plans for her.

“When will I be able to see her?” I asked, blinking as more tears slid down my cheeks.

He ran his tongue over his lips.

“I’ll keep in touch with Aldren and try to convince him to grant this meeting,” he said. “I’m as surprised as you are. I spent the last few months looking for Elowen without finding a single trace. I never imagined she’d be in Valmorin, right next to us.”

“This isn’t the life I planned for her. I kept quiet about her existence because I wanted her to be free—not a prisoner.”

He nodded and kissed my forehead.

“At least now we know where she is. Your sister is alive, she’s fine, and she’s close by. Soon, the two of you will be able to reunite.”

“Yes, but that doesn’t make things better.”

“It doesn’t, but it’s something.”

I laid my head on his shoulder and ran my hands over his back, nestling into his comforting chest.

Edric was right—at least I knew where she was. It was no longer the darkness I’d been in for months, cut off from the truth about her. My mate trusted Aldren, and I trusted him.

“Let’s go home?” he whispered after a moment of silence. “I caught a hare earlier—we can make dinner together.”

I agreed with a nod, in love with the routine we’d made, the one that belonged to the two of us.

“I like hare meat.”

“I know,” he said, kissing the top of my head. “That’s why I ran all the way to the other side of the forest, just to hunt one for you.”

My wolf purred in my chest.

“Mmm… I’m already salivating.”

He laughed, his chest shaking beneath me.

“My heart is all yours, little she-wolf. Pleasing you is the great motto of my life.”

“And mine is yours, leader of Eldoria.” I sighed, without lifting my head from his broad shoulder, nestled there, ready to be carried home.

He liked hunting for me, while I liked cooking for him. Sometimes, he would sit watching television with me, reading one of my romances. Even when we were doing different things, we were together, enjoying each other’s company.

The story about Elowen still bothered me, and it would keep troubling my thoughts until I could see her and be sure—with my own eyes—that she was all right. But now, at least, I knew where she was, and soon we would finally be together.

There would always be some problem, some confrontation, something to deal with. But together, we would face any challenge the future had in store, side by side, as fated mates.
