I Will Burn the Moon to Get Her Back
I Will Burn the Moon to Get Her Back
The moon was low in the sky. It gave off cold, silver light that shone on what was left of the Moon Temple. The temple used to be a holy place, but now it was destroyed. Only broken stones and ashes remained.
Kael stood in the middle of all the destruction. His heart was beating fast. Everything was quiet except for the sound of dying fires crackling far away. He took a step forward. His boots made crunching sounds on the broken stones and burned wood.
Every step felt wrong. Moving forward felt like he was leaving Lyra further behind. He kept thinking about what happened before everything went bad. He remembered her warm smile and how determined she looked. How did everything fall apart so fast?
"Lyra," he said quietly. His voice was rough. Saying her name made her being gone feel more real.
He fell to his knees. The cold ground went through his armor. His hands were shaking as he reached out and touched a piece of Lyra's cloak that had blood on it. He held it against his chest and started to cry.
Kael's whole body shook. The sadness felt too heavy to carry. Tears ran down his dirty, sooty face.
"No," he said angrily, his voice getting louder. "This can't be happening."
He remembered everything about Lyra: her laugh, how warm her touch was, the fire he saw in her eyes. She had been like a light in the dark for him. She kept him steady when the world went crazy. And now she was gone.
He thought about the nights they spent looking at stars together, telling each other stories and talking about their dreams. Her hand fit perfectly in his. Just having her there made him feel better. Losing her felt like losing part of himself.
He looked up at the empty sky. The moon hung there, its pale light seeming to make fun of him.
"If you took her," he yelled, his voice echoing through the ruins, "if she's gone because of you..."
The wind howled back at him, carrying whispers from the past.
"I will burn the moon to get her back!" he screamed. His voice was raw with pain. "I will tear down the heavens if I have to!"
He made fists so tight that his nails cut his palms. Blood mixed with the dirt on his hands. The power inside him woke up because of his sadness and anger. Flames started dancing along his arms.
The fire lit up the ruins and made scary shadows that looked like ghosts. The heat came off his body, showing how upset he was inside.
A sudden strong wind blew through the temple and put out the last fires. The silence came back, heavier than before.
Kael stayed on his knees. He felt the weight of the promise he had just made. He would find Lyra. He would fight gods and monsters. And he would bring her home.
From the shadows, someone watched him. Their eyes glowed with a cold, strange light. A whisper came on the wind, so quiet it was hard to hear: "She is beyond your reach, Kael."
Kael's head shot up. His eyes got narrow. "Who's there?"
No answer.
He stood up. His face looked hard and determined. The battle was not over yet.
Lyra slowly woke up. Her whole body hurt badly. She tried to move but couldn't. Something heavy was holding her down.
She opened her eyes and looked around. She was in a dark room made of cold gray stone. Water dripped from the ceiling. The air smelled musty and had a nasty metal smell that made her feel sick.
She tried to sit up, but sharp pain shot through her wrists and ankles. She looked down and saw chains made of pale, glowing moonstone around her hands and feet. The chains were attached to the floor so she couldn't move.
Fear filled her heart. She tried to feel for her inner wolf - the special power that was always part of her. But it wasn't there. The connection was gone. She felt empty and alone.
"No," she said in a rough voice. "This can't be real."
She closed her eyes and tried hard to find her power. But the moonstone chains sent out cold energy that blocked her abilities and made her wolf silent.
She heard footsteps getting closer outside her room. Her heart beat fast as the door opened with a loud creak. A dark figure walked in.
"Finally awake," the person said, stepping into the light. It was Nira, and her eyes looked mean and happy. "I thought you'd never wake up."
Lyra stared at her with angry eyes. "What do you want from me?"
Nira laughed in a cold way. "You, dear Lyra, are the key to everything. The goddess has big plans for you."
Lyra's mind raced, trying to understand what Nira meant. She always knew she was different, but this was crazy.
"You're insane," she said angrily. "I won't be your puppet."
Nira smiled bigger. "Oh, but you already are."
She turned and walked away, leaving Lyra alone in the cold, wet cell. The door slammed shut with a loud echo.
Lyra slumped against the wall and started crying. She had to find a way out. She had to break these moonstone chains and escape this horrible place.
As she sat in the dark, she heard a quiet whisper, barely louder than the dripping water.
"Lyra..."
She lifted her head and listened hard.
"Lyra... help is coming."
Hope filled her heart. She wasn't alone after all. Someone was out there looking for her.
But who was it? And would they find her in time?
