CHAPTER 63 Mistake
Fire
I woke up to the wind blowing through the open sliding door of my room's terrace and the warm sunlight shining on my face. My room was situated near the top of the building so I had a fantastic view of the ocean.
I rolled over expecting to find Drew still asleep and naked underneath the sheets, but I found his side of the bed empty. I immediately sat up, wide awake, wondering what time it was. I glanced at my phone for the time and saw it was already nine in the morning. I hurriedly went to the bathroom to shower, brush my teeth and get dressed.
Downstairs, I couldn't find anyone at the dining hall or the cabanas. I decided to ask the receptionist if they knew where my companions were.
She made a phone call and politely told me to wait. I turned around and tried to mind-link with anyone near my vicinity. Why can't I ever get a response from anyone?
"Luna, my apologies," Charles finally appeared from a corridor, an exasperated look on his face. He bowed low before addressing me. "Alpha Drew had instructed no one should bother you. I'm guessing you're hungry. Right this way, my Luna." He gestured for me to follow him. "The others are already eating breakfast."
"Charles, what's going on?" I asked as I followed him, hoping he would give me a straight answer.
"They are in the conference hall deciding on the best course of action after, uhm, last night's unexpected mishap. A buffet is set up inside. They are waiting for you," he answered, finally stopping in front of double doors. He turned the door knob of one of the double doors and opened it. "Luna Fire, if you may..."
I walked inside, not expecting to see all of Drew's men seated at numerous small tables covered with yellow table cloth, having breakfast. They all fell quiet, immediately stood up and bowed low. Yet, their respectful gesture didn't put my mind at ease. Where was Drew?
I noticed Luke and Mason seated with Alexander and Mark. Alexander raised his cup to me and I waved at him, smiling brightly. It seemed he was done with breakfast and was just enjoying his cup of coffee. I scanned the wolves at the other tables in the conference hall, but I couldn't find Drew or Tyler.
From out of nowhere, my aunt rushed forward with a big smile on her face, took my hands and led me to the buffet.
"Charles, coffee and juice, please. Set it up at her space at the table," my aunt quickly ordered Charles. Charles bowed and quickly took a French Press from the small beverage bar to prepare my coffee.
"Aunt Tabby, where's Drew?" I asked, turning my head to scan the conference hall. "Alexander is here with Mark, Mason and Luke, but I can't find Drew."
"They're having breakfast, Fire," she quickly answered. "Grab as much as you want and if you need more, Charles will get it for you. Hurry now. They're waiting for you."
"What's going on? Seems like there's a meeting or something," I said. "Charles said you guys were discussing the best course of action after what I did to Damon. About that, Aunt Tabitha, I'm really sorry." My aunt smiled and placed her arm around my shoulders.
"No need to be sorry. What is done is done," she assured me. "Drew and the High Elder will discuss everything to you." She noticed the troubled look on my face and lifted my chin so I could look into her red eyes. "Nothing to worry about, Fire. You had your reasons."
"Aunt Tabby, I killed the mate of my second wolf," I mumbled to my aunt while I piled bacon, hashbrowns, eggs, and pancakes onto my plate. I was really hungry. Sex can really work up an appetite.
"I heard, Fire," my aunt said. "A wolf created together by the Moon Goddess and the Virgin Maiden Aludra and blessed by the Vampire God Maacah to help create peace. Sure, we're a bit concerned of the repercussions Damon's death will bring to the wolves, but if the Moon Goddess forbids this mating, then you shouldn't be worried."
"So Earth was blessed by Maacah? How is that possible?" I asked curiously.
"A truce between the Moon Goddess and Maacah was made during the cleansing wars. To ensure peace, Maacah was allowed to enter the wolf realm and he blessed the wolf who the Virgin Maiden Aludra blessed with powers," my aunt explained. "However, the Moon Goddess did not bargain for the Enchantress to pick up a vampire mate." My aunt took my arm and led me away from the buffet table towards a dark hall.
I followed her to the end of the hall, through a small dark corridor which ended with a red door. She stopped several feet from it, then gestured for me to knock on the door which I did.
Charles suddenly opened the door and the bright light of the sun came bursting in, stinging my eyes. I blocked the sunlight with my hand and saw Drew, the High Elder and Elder Drache seated around a wooden table under a canopy beach tent eating their breakfast. Breakfast on the beach. How lovely! I waved at my aunt before exiting the building. She waved back and quickly left. I guess she didn't want to burn.
"Luna, your coffee and juice are ready," Charles said with a smile, pointing to the empty chair beside Drew.
"Thank you, Charles," I said and walked towards them, loving the feel of the cool sand.
"Ah, Luna Fire... How nice of you to join of us." The High Elder said. I bowed low and sat down beside Drew who gave me a kiss on the cheek.
"Sorry, love. I didn't want to wake you. You looked so peaceful," Drew said, placing a slice of pancake in my mouth. He really likes feeding me.
"Why isn't Alexander with us?" I asked after I swallowed. "He would definitely like this view." I sighed blissfully. It was just miles and miles of blue water. So peaceful.
"Alpha Alexander was here with us earlier, but now he is waiting for Amelie to finish getting ready. They will be leaving for the airport to make sure our plane is ready," the High Elder answered, his smile turning into a frown. "Forgive me, Luna Fire. I made a grave mistake. I informed the Vampire King of Eldest Damon's demise and now he has asked to speak with you... in China."
"In China?!" I asked, knowing China was bloodsucker territory. Drew nodded his head.
"We believe, Fire, the Vampire King is planning to attack my pack in China," Drew answered. "He wouldn't ask to speak with you there if he didn't plan to use my pack as collateral. My grandmother lives there and they know how special she is to me."
"The East Coven Stronghold's base of operations is in China!" I exclaimed, scratching my head. "If the Vampire King summons all the bloodsuckers there, we are outnumbered." Damn it! The Vampire King would risk everything just for Damon.
"Not really, Fire. My pack in China has enough wolves for a big enough army," Drew said.
"Drew, I need to train you. You need to learn how to use the Flaming Sword."
"There isn't time though," Drew said. "We leave for China this afternoon."
I smiled at him. "There's a way to train you without actually training you. Leave it to me."
I placed my hand on his cheek. As my fingers glowed, I allowed him to see the memories I had of Ying Yue with Huang. Huang was the man I spoke to during my vision at the public bath area. I showed Drew the many battles Ying Yue and Huang won together.
Drew's eyes widened in fascination as the memories flooded his mind. After I was done, he smiled confidently, now that he knew how to wield the sword.
I suddenly felt weak after I transfered Ying Yue's memories to Drew. It was strange.
"What's happening, Air?" I asked while stuffing my mouth with some eggs, thinking food would help.
"Dirt is sulking," Air answered. "She said she will never forgive you for killing the bloodsucker. Why? What's wrong?"
"I feel weak after using my powers. I never felt weak before," I answered.
"Fire, you just killed her mate. What did you expect? To become stronger?" Air scoffed at me. Now I felt like an idiot. "Whatever you're feeling, it's because she's hurting. So, if I were you, stop gloating while I try to console her."
"If you truly want to console her, stop calling her Dirt," I told Air. "She's a part of me now, a part of us. Try and make friends with her."
"Practice what you preach, Fire. You should have thought of that before you decided to kill her mate," Air replied. "I'll try my best to help, but I'm not promising anything. Just don't use your powers too much. If there's going to be a war, then you are going to need your strength."
Air was right. I needed to save my energy for the real battle.
I remember a memory of Ying Yue where she was reading a spell that can imprison a wolf in between realms. The wolf would still benefit its human form without transferring any of its ill effects. The spell used advance magic, but if Earth continued to be unproductive, then I will be forced to use it on her even if I was still considered a novice.
I paused to look out into the ocean and shook my head. I couldn't do that to Earth. She was a part of me and I did something that hurt her deeply. There was nothing to right my mistake, but to ask for her forgiveness.
The High Eldler's phone suddenly pinged.
"Our plane is ready. From here, we will make a short stop to Manila. Then in five hours we will land in Beijing, China," the High Elder said. "Do finish breakfast and pack all of your things. Alpha Drew, please do not forget to bring the Flaming Sword. Our very lives depend on it."
