172. Funny Little Ghost
Cora
Max and I had gone to a trampoline place. I told him we had one, but he wanted to go where all the walls were bouncy and the ball pit, He wanted that as well. I told him we could do what he wanted so I took him to have. Fun the two of us had laughed and bounced played tag. I was surprised it had been so fun. “Has dad taken you here?” I asked Max. “Yeah sometimes,”
“What do you think of a blooming onion?” He made a weird face. “Mom what are you talking about?” I looked and pointed to the Chilies across the street. “I am talking about you and me going to that restraint and getting cheeseburgers and ordering a blooming onion.” “Yes” He yelled super loud with a gesture and face change and everything. I had no idea he was so stoked about Chilies. I figured his reaction was due to having a cheeseburger seeing as he had never heard of the blooming onion.
Max and I sat down. I ordered and he looked at me like I was crazy. It was because I ordered him a root beer float. Jax had never given him one, and I knew five was young and he didn’t need all that sugar, but I figured Jax would run that off considering when we got home, he would be shifting. “Having fun Max?” He nodded. “Yeah, this is fun, can we do this every day.” I snorted. “Nope just sometimes.” I looked at him as he looked all over the place.
We got our food and ate. “What do you think?” I asked. Max was smiling like crazy; he loved the root beer, and he loved the blooming onion and cheeseburger. I think the waitress was surprised there was no food left over. That was because Max was eating like crazy these days. I ordered him another root beer before we left. Max face was all smiles and then it fell. “Max what is wrong?” I asked. “Laurie's Mom is here.” My brain shuffled itself. Laurie's mom was Courtney. I looked at Max and I could see his teeth clenching. “She attacked you mom” he said his face was getting red.
I needed to deescalate the situation. “Max, look at me.” He didn’t “Max baby look at me.” He did his face was all red and I could see little canine teeth starting to come out as his mouth clenched. I thought on my feet. “I have an idea.” He was still trying to get a grip. I picked up the white napkin and made it float. Max caught sight of it, and I could see brain fog lifting a little at my weird direction. “Just watch.” I told him and I had the napkin ghost I made float from our table. I looked around and saw a chocolate shake. Bingo, I said to myself.
I used my magic to make it look like a tiny ghost was floating through the Chilies. The little fake ghost stole the chocolate shake, and t carried it through the place. I glanced at Max, and he had calmed down now and was watching like everyone else. I had it hover over Courtney and then the little ghost poured it over her head. I let my magic go and the napkin ghost collapsed back into a regular napkin and the cup holding the shake fell into Courtney nap.
Max and I laughed as Courtney screamed bloody murder. The waitress handed Max his to go root beer float. I was just paying the bill when Courtney stormed past no doubt going to the bathroom. She stopped once she saw me and Max. “What are you doing out?” She said startled I was actually out. When we fought, she could see I was nervous but not at the moment right now I was comfortable. “Having lunch with my son.” She stared at me, and I looked her up and down real slow. I gave her a slow smile. “What happened why are you covered in a shake?” I asked. Max burst out laughing. I turned my head to Max and then back to Courtney, keeping that sly smug smirk on my face. “Well, we must be going you know we are so busy.” I slide from the booth and making sure Max was in front of me before we walked off.
“Max turn around.” I said quietly. He did and as Courtney continued to the bathroom to clean up, I had her trip and fall into a plate of spaghetti. Max laughed super hard, and I couldn’t help but laugh to. We pilled into my truck. “Mom you are the best.” I laughed. “Music?” I asked. “Yes!” Max cheered and we put on the pop station. He was in the backseat drinking his root beer and singing along. Both him and I were singing at the top of our lungs and dancing in our seat when we pulled up in front of the house Jax was there waiting.
“Dad looks mad.” Max said. I turned around unbuckling. “He will get over it. Did you have fun?” I asked and he nodded. “Want to make him really mad?” I raised my eyebrows making them bounce a little bit and Max nodded. “Okay unbuckle and open the small window behind you and follow my lead.” He nodded and I got my door open, and turned the music all the way up it was blasting footloose. An oldie but goodie. Jax approached me but ignored him and crawled up into the bed of the truck and motioned for Max to crawl out the window. He did and I started dancing and Max did too. Jax stood there with his arms crossed and a scowl on his face.
When the next song came on Max, and I were all over the place having a blast. I didn’t care that the others had wandered up to see this scene unfold. But Jax couldn't keep a scowl when I shook my ass a little seductively at him and used my fingers to tell him to come up to the bed of the truck. He hopped up and Max danced harder and the three of us were laughing and dancing having a great time. It was so lighthearted and so nice. When a commercial came on I asked John who was next to the truck to turn it off. He did laugh and then walked off.
“Max wants to tell dad what we did today?” Max eyes got huge as he went into a long story about the trampoline place and what happened at Chilies. He couldn’t stop laughing as he told Jax about the fake ghost. Jax did not seem the least impressed by my antics, but Max did and that was what was important. “That was a great story buddy why don’t you go play with your trucks for a bit and then we can go shift, I just need to talk to your mom for a bit.” He nodded and turned to me throwing his arms around me. “You are the best mom ever. I love you.” I smiled as he let go and Jax helped him off the bed of the truck and then me after.
We all walked into the house. “Go on Max, I will come get you in a bit.” He ran off and Jax turned to me. “What could you possibly be upset about.” I spoke. “Cora it is well past noon. Max was supposed to be training.” I made a sound of annoyance. “Also, the other witches thought you would be back sooner to help them with their houses. And Anne also wanted to hang out with you I think.” I rolled my eyes. “Jax, I wanted to spend time with my son. I am not going to apologize for it. He had fun and so did I.” He stared at me.
“Why would you egg Courtney on like that?” He asked. “Max was getting angry he was starting to shift, and you were not there. He was upset seeing her as last time he did she was fighting me. So, I choose to make him laugh and he calmed down and didn’t turn into a fluffy white puppy in the middle of a restaurant. Oh, and it was funny and a little payback that is why.” “Well can you just try to be back on time in the future?” I was the one scowling. “I will do what I dam well please.” I leaned in gave him a kiss on the cheek. “Don’t patronize me. I love you, I do, but don’t do it.” I gave him another quick kiss and walked off. “Have fun.” I called out behind me.
