159. Burning Witches
Cora
Drake was a snake just like his name said he was. He really thought drinking blood was acceptable. He thought he was a crusader wanting to build something out of nothing with the belief we could bleed werewolves like it was nothing. I didn’t care to see the evidence he had. If he could act like this was such a small thing he was obviously nuts. Sure, I let Jax cut me, but it was a strong bond we had, and it was done in a different way and there was a massive level of trust.
This was just unacceptable; he didn’t even bring up the fact it is addicting. Just when he talked about it my mouth had started to moisten. I wanted to say yes, let's do that. Just so I could get a taste of it. Those feelings were pushed aside by my brain telling me this is wrong. Thinking that you could control yourself with that substance was ridiculous. I didn’t care that he said a coven in Africa did this. I would not be a part of that. What made us witches worthy of immortal life, nothing. There was nothing special about us.
Disgusting was all I could think. I knew Kronos wanted me to listen to him. I had I had listened to what he said, but I would not align myself or anyone else with Drake. I wouldn’t do it and the titan couldn’t make me. I rolled my neck as I drove closer to my destination my hands tightening on the steering wheel. I needed to focus I had so much work to do. I tried to remain focused as I finally pulled into the massive library. I loved this place, so much information inside. I had come here as I was starting to venture out of the house. Before, I was healed.
The stacks of books helped me feel safe and there were so many books I learned more than most people learn in a lifetime in one hour. I walked in and the librarian at the front desk smiled at me. “Hi Cora, back again” I nodded to her. I didn’t ever check books out. I didn’t need to I just absorbed the information and went home. I had so many books at the house already I didn’t need more. I was starting to think maybe I should make a library at White Paw Pack. I mean if witches would be living there why shouldn’t we have books galore. Not to mention in general they were good places. I could have a special room for the witchy books I had taken for myself.
I didn’t know if I wanted those easily accessible though. I would need to give it some thought. But I knew a library would be good for our new town. Every town had its own library. Jax and I certainly had enough to start a small one. I decided I would find a book on how to find funding for getting books as well. I began pulling things from the shelves, my stack getting big. I wished I could use magic, and I wouldn’t have to carry all of them, but I was around humans, and I wasn’t going to do that.
I ended up making several trips around the books until I sat down at the table with books all stacked next to me. I took the first one off the top of the stack. “Masonry” Was what it was titled. I placed my hand on top of the book and closed my eyes. My mind began to be flooded with information. I did this over and over again.
I had been here for a while when a women touched my shoulder, I snapped my eyes open to look at who had touched me. It was a kid. “What are you doing?” She asked. What was I supposed to say? I couldn’t very well tell her I was using magic to get all this information. “I just was thinking on this book.” I said hoping that was an enough for a kid's imagination. She looked at all of the books, “That is a lot of books to think on.” This kid was maybe 11. Her father came out of nowhere. “Molly what are you doing, running from me.” He then looked at me. He then looked at my table with books and my hand still on the top of one of them.
He stared at me intently. What was he thinking? “Molly let’s go.” He grabbed the kids' hand and pulled her away. It seemed weird. The way he looked at me. Did he know that I was a witch? I didn’t know but he was not happy that was obvious by the way he pulled his daughter away. I went back to the books, trying to get the weird encounter out of my head. When I finished, I was tired. I had been here for a long time. As I walked out, I realized it was dark now. Crap, I knew I had not been home to make dinner. I needed to call Jax and ask if he wanted me to bring home food.
Max would still be asleep. I was fumbling in my purse for my phone. I had just pulled it out to see a text. I stopped walking to read it. “I figured you would be in your own world with the books and knowing you your phone is on silent. Don’t worry about dinner I will make something. Call me when you are leaving the library.” I smiled. Jax knew I would be busy and knew I wouldn’t be answering the phone. I loved how he knew me so well. I put the phone in my purse I would call him in the truck, I could connect my phone to it and would be able to drive hands free.
But as I pulled out the keys to my truck the guy from earlier in the library was in front of me. “You shouldn’t be here witch.” Okay so maybe he was a werewolf. I mean he obviously knew what I was there was no way he was human. “Look, I am not looking for trouble okay, I just want to get in my truck and go home.” I told him. “You want to go get your coven you mean?” He sneered. I looked around we were in a city what was he going to do shift into his wolf and fight me. He couldn’t there were streetlights around and it was dark, but it wasn’t the middle of the night people were close by and out and about still.
“You sold your self to the devil, and you are evil.” I couldn’t control myself then. I knew he wasn’t a werewolf. I busted out laughing and hard. This was a human who was scared of witches, some fanatic like those who burned witches in Salem. He knew nothing about anything. I had to get control of myself I was laughing so hard my sides were hurting. “I know your kind, I have seen you before, you stay out of this town do you hear me.” He shouted.
I choked back my laughter. “Yeah, I will do what I please, leave me alone.” I turned to get into my truck when I felt something splash on my back, I smelt the thick liquid he threw gasoline on me. I turned around to see there was another man with him. He was holding a can. He held a match, oh fuck no. I called out to the earth and had a rock come from a small flower bed by the library door. It went flying through the air and hit the man holding the match and can in his hand in the back of his knee and he dropped. I walked over to him. I had called a few more rocks and had them levitating above him.
The man I had seen inside who was the one who confronted me had run away as I approached. I looked down. “If you ever try that again I guarantee you will die.” I then had the rocks drop onto him it was not enough to kill him or anything, but it would hurt. I smelt horrible as I got into my car. I used magic to clean myself, but I could still smell the gas lingering. I could control fire if I was the one who had created it, but flames that were not my own were hard to control. If I was set on fire I didn’t know if I could stop it, I had called rain a few times before I had control of my power, maybe I could do it if I was ever set on fire. Why the hell was this even a thought, I didn’t think humans even knew about my kind, did they know about the werewolves too?
