The Weight of the Pit
The Weight of the Pit
The Throne Room, now bathed in the iridescent gold of the new sovereignty, grew quiet, but the air was thick with the weight of the cosmic energy recently broadcast. Lillith was the first to move, her steps resolute as she approached Lucifer.
“The Legion of the Golden Anchor,” she murmured, a trace of satisfied awe in her voice. “You just put a celestial leash on Hell and handed me the whip. Now the backlash begins.”
Lucifer, standing tall and serene, nodded toward the immense, polished marble floor. “It has already begun. They felt the power; they heard the mandate. But they are Princes, Lillith. They taste opportunity, not obedience. They know I am depleted, despite the show. They will test the limit.”
“Who goes first?” Lillith asked, folding her arms, her attention already focused on strategic threats. “Astaroth, the strategist? Belial, the brute force?”
A dark, shivering fissure opened instantly on the floor a dozen paces from the Throne. It wasn't a portal, but a concentrated manifestation of infernal rage. Out of it stepped Mammon, the Great Duke of Avarice. He was a towering, heavily armored figure, his skin the color of polished obsidian, his eyes burning with the slow, green fire of absolute greed.
“No, Queen,” Mammon’s voice grated, a sound like stone grinding metal. “The one who cares about the price goes first.”
💰 The Price of Sovereignty
Mammon did not kneel. He stood his ground, radiating a power that, while minuscule compared to the Throne's, was pure, ancient, and entirely his own.
“Lucifer,” he hissed, spitting the name with contempt. “You left us with a war and returned with a Crown. You trade rebellion for rule. You claim the Light, and expect the Pit to bow?”
“I expect obedience, Mammon,” Lucifer countered, his golden eyes radiating calm, unwavering power. “I have anchored existence. Your continued existence is contingent on my success. Your price for survival is allegiance.”
Mammon laughed, a deep, unsettling rattle. “Survival is easy. Profit is the point. You demand the Great Dukes—the ones who bled and burned for millennia under your own banner—to merge their armies with the whimpering choirboys of Heaven? You’re insane. You’ve let the Light rot your mind.”
He gestured wildly, his green-fire eyes blazing. “I own the souls of a billion planets! I have forged empires in the dark! I will not surrender my wealth, my power, or my independence to a new, gilded tyranny!”
⚔️ The Golden Response
Lillith took a step forward, ready to intervene, but Lucifer stopped her with a subtle, minute shift of his hand. He understood Mammon's challenge: this was not a fight for the Throne, but a challenge to authority. He had to establish the absolute consequences for disobedience immediately.
“You misunderstand the nature of the shift, Mammon,” Lucifer said, his voice quiet, almost mournful. “I didn't take the Throne to rule like the Father. I took it to fix the Father's failure. And you, Duke of Avarice, are now an obstacle to the structural integrity of the cosmos.”
He did not draw a blade. He did not cast a spell. He simply directed the Order of the Throne toward the rogue Duke.
A massive, invisible hand of pure, geometric stability pressed down on Mammon. It was not pain; it was correction. The immense, chaotic power Mammon had accrued over eons—the tangled web of souls, pacts, and infernal bargains that defined his existence—was instantly, perfectly straightened.
Mammon screamed—a sound of pure existential agony. His obsidian armor cracked, not from impact, but from the sudden, intolerable perfection being imposed upon his inherently flawed being. The green fire in his eyes sputtered out.
He collapsed, struggling to breathe, the very essence of his existence momentarily purified. He was still Mammon, but his centuries of accumulated avarice, his chaos of wealth, had been violently suppressed.
“You mistake power for freedom,” Lucifer stated, walking slowly toward the gasping Duke. “Your power is now defined by its utility to the new Order. Your freedom is limited to your willingness to comply. The choice is yours.”
🛡️ The New General
Mammon stared up at the gold-clad figure, realizing the truth: Lucifer had not used his power; he had used the Throne's. This was not a power a demon could understand, resist, or bargain with. It was the Law itself.
“The Legion of the Golden Anchor needs resources,” Lucifer continued, standing over the Duke. “It needs financing, logistical support, and a complete, instant transfer of all your mobile Infernal legions and their command structure to Queen Lillith. Do you understand the terms?”
Mammon slowly pushed himself up to a trembling knee, his head bowed. The green fire in his eyes returned, but this time, it was banked, controlled. He was still greedy, but he was now logistical.
“I understand, Your Incandescence,” he rasped, the title tasting like ash. “The price of non-compliance is erasure. The price of compliance is... guaranteed existence. I accept the terms. The legions and the wealth are transferred to the Queen of the Anchor. But I will need a full accounting. And a seat on the War Council.”
Lucifer smiled—a small, knowing twist of his lips. “You will have a seat, Mammon. We will need your greed to track the things Michael unleashed. Report to the Queen. Now rise, General of Logistics.”
Mammon rose, no longer a Duke of Avarice challenging a god, but a subordinate assigned a massive task. He glanced at Lillith, a flicker of dark resentment quickly hidden by professional acknowledgment.
Lillith nodded, her expression serious. “The Siphon Array is my command center, General. Move your people now. Every hour we delay, the Void fragments spread further.”
Mammon gave a curt, formal bow, and vanished back into the shadows of the floor, not in rage, but in a surge of focused activity. The threat was dealt with, but the other Dukes remained.
Lucifer looked at Lillith, the gold in his eyes burning brighter. “One down. Now the others must be informed. The Throne’s Authority is established. Now you build the army.”
