Chapter. 34
“I’m not here to side step Elaina? I need answers to that first dark one attack. I need to go back five years ago. I need the truth.” She tried to argue, but couldn’t even lift her limbs under the powerful magic in the air. It was oppressive and heated her lungs. Her brown eyes widened to her left as she saw Yani materialise. Clad in a white hood and billowing white fabric around her lithe blue body, she mirrored everything Elaina did. Their hands were interlocked and they moved their hands parallel to her body and periodically paused.
“You cannot perish because we rushed this.” Yani now spoke to her. “You are not a witch-”
“Yet.” Elaina chipped in firmly.
“Be that as it may? Right now your spirit would be vulnerable outside of your body. Your body even more so without a spirit occupying it. You cannot be gone long. If the dark ones realised what we were doing you would be in grave danger.”
“So let’s not rush, and let’s do this right.” The redhead summed up and then she shuddered in perfect sync with her spirit guardian. “We’re going to open your chakras and connect to them. We’re going to lift you from your body, and you are going to travel only through space. To another place. The strength of the full moon and our coven are behind you. Your bloodline is with you. Destiny awaits you.”
“A comedian and a poet.” Diana muttered to herself and felt something throb and twist inside of her unnaturally. “WH-what’s that? What’s happening to me?”
“We are opening the petals enclosing your chakras. We are releasing your spirit from it’s mortal bonds and sending your soul forth to wander.”
“Shit, that kind of sounds like you’re killing me?” Diana chuckled nervously.
Elaina and Yani lowered one set of clasped hands to her chest to press to her hammering heart, and the other to her stomach full of frenzied butterflies. Then they swung their heads to eerily stare down at her…with no eyes. Empty sockets looked back at her and they both grinned with mouths that were way too wide.
“We are.” They spoke in one voice, and then pushed down on her body. Diana screamed and felt herself going through the floor. The falling sensation reminded her of going through her own bed and half expected to turn over and find herself hurtling through the sky again. Not this shit again?!??
Diana groaned and pushed her hands down into the ground. She was groggy as she pushed herself up to sit and rubbed her face. Well that must have been a bust. I didn’t go anyw…what? She released her face only to see a hand that wasn’t hers. She was in full control of it, and turned it back and forth, but it was not hers. White fire flickered within the outline of a hand. She exhaled choppily in a panic as she followed the hand to an arm, to a shoulder, and then down at the rest of her body. I’m…a ghost? She stood tall and walked slowly, staring at both hands in fascination. Elaina did it. I must be a spirit. I’m on an astral walk. She smiled and kept walking forward. It worked. I look like I’m on fire but it’s white and I don’t feel any heat. She touched her face, and it still felt like her face, but it was cool to the touch. Man I hope I don’t have those freaky white passive eyes that the spirit guardians have. She sniggered to herself and decided to make the most of things. She said I’d be invisible unless I came across someone sensitive to magic. So as long as I don’t come across another witch, I’m good right? Feeling more confident and wanting to make the most of this short ‘baby step’ outing, she marched on.
That’s beautiful. She smiled up at the full moon peering through the canopy of the trees above her. I can’t remember the last time I went walking through a forest. Without it being in one of my nightmares, I mean. Diana shrugged and just enjoyed the feeling of nature around her. The earthy smells and the soft sound of birds fluttering above her. Scurrying smaller mammals and rodents ducking for cover. The trickle of water and the shimmer of moonlight casting down through the trees. It’s really beautiful. Diana passed through the treeline and into a meadow. She giggled and ran forward with her hands out. She watched as the tall grass rippled around her as if she was physically there and laughed with elation. This is so freeing! I wish I could do this whenever I wanted to like Elaina. To just escape my body and problems to just be for a while.
She kept running and climbed up onto a large rock to look up at the moon. I don’t think I’ve ever just looked up at the stars before.
“…it’s so beautiful…” Diana sighed with content and sat there moon watching for a while.
"I agree."
