Chapter 71. Wren's Visit
Riley woke up to the sound of a knock on the door and Jacob's voice drifting through the regular knocking.
"What is it?" asked Riley hoarsely.
She saw that the sky had grown dimmer and not as hot as this afternoon. Riley glanced at the hello kitty clock, and it was three in the afternoon.
"Mr. Hatcher is waiting for you downstairs. You have a visit from Mr. Wren."
Wren?
Riley quickly jumped out of bed. She ran her fingers through her hair and made sure she looked pretty neat in the mirror. She rushed out of her room and surprised Jacob, who was still standing in front of her door.
"Where's Wren? You said Wren was here."
"He's in the living room. Talking to Mr. Hatcher."
Riley ignored Jacob, who was trying to keep up with her pace. She ran down the stairs excitedly. Her stomach didn't hurt anymore after she had slept for over three hours in her new room.
"Wren! Oh, thank goodness you're okay."
Ignoring Logan's piercing gaze, Riley ran to Wren and hugged him tightly. Tears welled up in her eyes. Riley was so thankful that Logan didn't hurt Wren, even a fingernail.
"Are you okay?" Wren let go of his arm and took a step back to look at Riley.
"Riley is fine. You don't have to worry about her."
“I can't just trust you after what happened to your maid.”
"You know about Kaella?"
Wren nodded slowly. He hoped Riley wasn't mad at him for keeping it a secret from her.
“Someone sent me a video of her being tortured before I took you to the airport. By then, I had the feeling that Logan knew where we were. But I was a complete fool for not expecting that Logan would be waiting for us at the Las Vegas airport.”
"He ambushed me in the toilet."
“Sit down, Riley. I brought Wren here only because you wanted Wren to check on you.”
"Are you okay?" Wren ignored Logan's cynical words and only focused on Riley.
"I'm fine. I don't want you to get in trouble because of me, Wren."
Riley sat down on the empty single sofa. She purposely didn't sit next to Logan because she didn't want to be near Logan.
“You have to give her medicine for her stomach. She had pain in her stomach after making love," Logan exclaimed flatly.
Wren's face showed shock and anger. He was like dynamite about to explode when Logan casually informed him of Riley's condition.
"Did you rape her? You know that Riley just had a miscarriage and had a curettage. You shouldn't touch her until she's completely stable. You're putting her in danger."
"She looks fine. You're exaggerating, Wren."
"You are crazy. She could be bleeding."
"She's not bleeding, Wren. Can you stop being so overbearing and do your job as an obstetrician? Don't make me regret calling you here."
Wren clenched his fists at his sides. He might be able to give Logan a punch or two, but then Logan's men would beat him to a pulp. There were at least five burly, heavily armed men surrounding him. If he hurt their boss, they wouldn't hesitate to shoot him.
“How are you feeling so far, Riley?”
“I…” Riley lowered her head in shame because she was the only woman there who would confess in front of the men surrounding her.
“My lower belly hurts. But it’s much better now after I slept for a few hours. Do you think I’m okay?”
“Do you have a fever? Are you cold? Do you have a headache?”
“No. So far I’m fine. I just felt a little nauseous this morning, but I’m fine now.”
"I think you're fine. The pain you feel is the effect of being too tense. Did he force you?"
Riley didn't answer. Wren's question did not require an answer.
“Okay, you can buy ibuprofen at the pharmacy if you feel sick. Or if you are dizzy and have a fever, you can take paracetamol. No need for special drugs. Get some rest if you are tired. And for you, Logan, don't force Riley to make love to you. She's not an animal, she's a woman who needs tenderness."
"No need to advise me. I know what to do. I know her body well.”
Logan's smile contained cynicism and something lewd. Riley knew that Logan was doing it on purpose to make Wren even more angry.
"You hurt her once. Don't do it again."
"I won't hurt her as long as she doesn't make me mad. Now, get out of my house. Your job is done."
Riley saw Wren staring at her deeply. There was anger and reluctance on his face. She knew for a fact that Wren wanted to stay longer to talk to her.
"So, is it safe to have sex with him?"
Riley half expected Wren to say no, so she could have an excuse to turn Logan down if he wanted to fuck her again. But, Wren didn't get the point at all. Instead, Wren gave her a dark look and gave her an answer that made her upset.
"As long as Logan does it gently, you'll be fine."
Wren and Riley's eyes met. There was something in Wren's eyes that told Riley to tell him the truth, but Riley just stayed silent.
"You've talked too much, Wren. Jacob will drive you to the airport. Your flight is at eight."
"What? You can't kick me out like that. I'll go back to New York when I want to."
"Of course, I can kick you out. Your plane is waiting. My men will take you to the airport. They have my full permission to shoot you if you try to escape.”
"Logan, you can't do that to Wren."
"Shut up Riley. You had better go back to your room and get ready. We'll go to dinner after this."
"Let Wren be free. You don't have to control his life."
Logan growled in annoyance. He really hated it when someone interfered in his decisions.
"Go to your room. Now."
Riley looked at Logan hatefully. She didn't move for a few seconds and just stared at Logan with anger seething from her body. But, when two of Logan's men raised their guns at Wren, there was nothing Riley could do but leave and go up to her room.
"Good girl. Good choice, Riley, because I won't hesitate to shoot Wren if you go against my orders."
Riley walked straight up the stairs, past Jacob who was standing at the end of the stairs. Riley didn't glance at Jacob, who was clearly staring at her. Riley's hands were clenched in her pants pockets. She climbed the stairs one by one with a loud stomp to let Logan know how angry she was.
