TEN. Something Happened To Logan's Baby
"Thank you for letting me read your collection of books."
This time Riley was more used to it, and she wasn't afraid at all as she walked down the stone steps to Logan's study. She knew exactly what was waiting for her down there. And, she felt excited instead of afraid.
"I'm the only one who usually reads those books. Glad if someone else reads it too."
"What book do you like?"
"I read all the books. Novels, business books, automotive books, anything. At least, I have to enrich myself with knowledge so that other people can't fool me."
"That's right. Moreover, you are a CEO, you must always be aware of your rivals."
"You have a good perspective. You must be a smart girl."
Riley blushed. She had never received such a sincere compliment from a man. Especially a grown man like Logan, whom she had only known for less than twenty-four hours.
"Thank you. I like learning new things."
While Riley went to pick out a book she liked, Logan sat down in his chair and started working on the things he needed to do. He was finishing up the paperwork for his company and his potential clients for next month. He then reread the points of his agreement with Riley that would be given to his lawyer tomorrow to draw up a legal agreement.
He wanted all his plans to have a baby to go smoothly. Even though it felt strange to let other people into his life. He had never been this close to anyone, especially a teenage girl like Riley. He used women just to have fun and make him forget all the difficulties in life that he had been facing. He needed it to keep his mind sane. Otherwise, he might become a madman in a mental hospital because of the tragic death of his parents.
"Find a book you like?"
Riley looked up at Logan who was watching her from behind his glasses. She was fascinated to see Logan wearing glasses. He looked softer and sweeter. The glasses softened the color of his dark eyes. If Logan hadn't been so rude in the hospital, she would have been more cooperative with him.
"The novel about an illusionist falling in love with a woman he just met on the subway I think interests me. This is a simple love story, but with a dramatic effect that makes me always look forward to the surprises that I will find on the next page."
"Oh, I know that. The illusionist will let her go and stop pursuing his love."
"Logan!" Riley shouted in annoyance. She hated getting spoilers.
"Why did you tell me their ending? You're annoying!"
Riley closed the book she had just read twenty pages and threw it on the sofa.
"The book is not interesting anymore after you told me the end of their relationship."
Logan raised an eyebrow, confused and amused at how cute Riley's reaction was. He didn't expect Riley to scream in anger just because he told her the ending of the novel she was reading.
"I'm just telling you a little. You can read their love story, which is full of twists and turns."
"I'm no longer interested in reading their love story. What are you doing?"
Suddenly, Riley stood up and was interested to see what Logan was doing. She saw that there were many papers scattered on his desk.
"You do things like this?"
Riley looked down beside Logan, scrutinizing every word written in detail on each of the papers scattered on the table. Cooperation agreement letters, clauses, and various kinds of terms made Riley's brain heat up.
"They make my brain dizzy and hot."
Logan stared at Riley intensely for a few seconds, then he pushed Riley's shoulder away and said flatly.
"Go back to the couch. Find another book you want to read. Don't bother me."
Riley frowned. She was confused by Logan's change in attitude. She thought he had softened up a bit and they could be friends. However, Logan's cynicism and rudeness proved her wrong. Logan would never consider her a friend, and once the baby was born, she would be kicked out of the house.
With wide steps, Riley walked away from Logan. She moved from one bookshelf to another just to calm her explosive emotions. All the books were no longer interesting in her eyes. On the contrary, she felt angry.
Logan silently watched Riley's every move. He knew she was upset seeing him suddenly act rudely. But she didn't know what caused his rudeness. Riley made him lose all his focus on work. Her scent made him dizzy. And the thought of her petite yet curvy body affected him even more. He shouldn't have seen Riley wearing only jeans and a tiny pink bra this afternoon. Every time that memory came up, he would lose all his senses, and he might break his own promise not to touch Riley. He even wanted to taste her body so badly after he peeked a little bit of what was hidden under her knee-length dress.
Shit! What are you doing, man?
Logan cursed himself for wanting Riley and imagining what she was wearing under her beautiful knee-length dress. Maybe it was because he hadn't slept with any women since he got shot and had to stay home most of the time.
"It is late. You better go to your room."
"I'm not a kid. You can't kick me out to make me go to bed now."
"You should go to bed now. Wren said the baby is still in the early stages. The first month is a crucial stage."
"To hell with Wren's words. This is my body and I know what is best for my body."
Riley was proud of herself that she had regained her powers to confront Logan. It was better to know that she wasn't completely controlled by Logan and that she could infuriate him.
"I said go to your room. Now!"
Logan's voice was just a hiss and a growl. Riley should have taken his word and went to her room. But instead she acted nonchalant and crossed her right leg over her left while pretending to read a book. She silently watched how Logan reacted who was watching her from behind his desk.
"I don't want to go to my room."
"You will regret forcing me to do this."
Riley saw Logan get up from his chair and walk towards her with wide strides. Riley kept telling herself to stay calm and not be afraid of Logan's anger. However, the more Logan closed the distance between them, the calmness that Riley had built was getting thinner. She became more scared and then groaned in pain when Logan suddenly grabbed her arm roughly.
"Go to your room now!"
Logan dragged Riley out of his study. He ignored her whimpers as he gripped her arm too tightly. Riley's feet stumbled on the stone steps several times and her body nearly fell forward as she tried to steady her unsteady steps. But Logan didn't care about the pain she was experiencing, and instead he blamed her for testing his patience with her recent arrogance.
Riley's moans and screams echoed throughout Logan's house. She was dragged across the living room and roughly pulled to her bedroom on the second floor.
"Please, let me go. You hurt me!"
"Screw you. Isn't this what you want? You like being treated rudely."
"Ah Logan! You hurt me. My belly hurts."
"Don't lie to me. You're just pretending to be sick so you can get away from me."
Riley clutched her aching stomach. It was the same pain she had this afternoon. But this time the pain was stronger and more intense. She was afraid that something bad would happen to her and to the baby-to-be.
"Logan let me go."
Tears welled up in her eyes because of the pain she felt in her arms and stomach.
"Go to your room."
Logan threw Riley onto the bed roughly. He stood at the edge of the bed, watching Riley curl up into a ball and groan in pain.
"Don't ever challenge me again. Understand?"
She didn't say anything. All that could be heard was Riley's heavy breathing. She seemed to be holding back the sobs that were about to escape her lips.
"Now, go to sleep. Don't do stupid things that will make me angry," Logan left Riley's room and slammed the door hard.
Her tears turned into miserable cries. She clutched her stomach tightly, and rolled herself into a ball to ease the pain in her heart and stomach. Riley lamented her bad luck for meeting a man as cruel as Logan. He was not only cruel, but also dangerous.
While she was busy crying and cursing Logan for his cruelty, Riley suddenly felt something seeping out of her panties. She was a little scared to imagine what it was. When she looked down, she found blood on the sheets. And she started to have a bad feeling if something happened to Logan's baby.
