Chapter 236
Chapter 236
To prevent Evelyn from asking about her physical condition, Stella brought up her enemy.
Sure enough, there was a reason these two could be such good friends. When she heard the enemy was Isabella, Evelyn didn't ask any more questions about the illness, but had already started planning revenge.
Matthew's mouth twitched as he listened from the side.
Isabella hadn't even been found yet, but they had already decided to capture her and throw her off a cliff too, to let Isabella experience that feeling of being close to death.
However, seeing that Evelyn's mental state had improved considerably, Matthew breathed a deep sigh of relief. Taking advantage of their conversation, he turned and left the hospital room.
Outside the room, William looked excited, "How is it? Is Evelyn awake? That's great, I was so scared. But when can I go in? Stella is really being too nosy."
In his view, so what if they were divorced? She was still the person he was once closest to.
Now that Evelyn had been through such a terrible thing, he should be the first one to go in and take care of her, but Stella kept blocking him.
Matthew's face darkened, "Do you even know what you're saying, you bastard? If we're talking about who has the right to be here, you're the least qualified, because you're the last person Evelyn wants to see."
Hearing Stella being blamed, he mercilessly told the truth.
William looked hurt, his face somewhat haggard, with a pitiful look in his eyes, "We've been friends for years, and now you're criticizing me because of your wife?"
By the end, his tone became more and more aggrieved.
William leaned against the wall, as if he had no strength at all, looking very weak, "I've already made my decision. I'm going to hire a professional manager to run the company for me starting today, and I'm going to stay by Evelyn's side."
Right after the divorce, maybe he hadn't cared this much about Evelyn.
But now it was different. When he learned that Evelyn had been in an accident, he panicked so much his heart nearly jumped out of his chest.
And in that moment, he truly realized that after years of married life together, he had long since fallen in love with Evelyn and couldn't live without her for the rest of his life.
William's voice was hoarse, "I told my parents, and they agreed too."
He had already asked the doctor. Evelyn's physical condition was terrible. Setting aside the uterus issue for now, her legs were seriously injured.
She needed someone to take care of her.
Of course, besides her body, someone needed to take care of her emotional state too.
If it were any other patient facing these things, they would only need physical treatment, but Evelyn's situation was completely different. She had serious psychological issues, and if she couldn't get through this, the consequences would be unthinkable.
Matthew knew something about Evelyn's past.
He thought for a moment, "Are you sure she'll agree? And Stella won't be willing either."
Stella and Evelyn had a deep friendship, so she probably wanted to take care of Evelyn personally.
In Stella's eyes, Evelyn was like her own sister, so of course she wouldn't want to hand Evelyn over to this man.
Matthew rolled his eyes and said unkindly, "If you want to take care of her, I won't stop you, but you need to figure out how to convince them. And don't even think about taking her away by force. I absolutely won't allow that."
He really didn't know what was wrong with William's brain.
He had done so many terrible things in the past, capturing and confining Evelyn.
You have to understand that back then Evelyn wasn't thinking clearly and had no one to tell about what she was going through, but now it was different.
Stella would never allow Evelyn to go through those things again.
William awkwardly touched his head, "Alright, I got it. I know what I'm doing. You don't understand—we were married for years, I know Evelyn very well."
If it were before, or if it were a different physical condition, Evelyn might be willing to let Stella take care of her.
But the leg injury was really too serious. She would need to recover for several months at least, and most importantly, she would need to cooperate with various exercises and rehabilitation treatments.
Stella was pregnant, and the baby in her belly was more important.
Evelyn would agree.
William was completely confident about this.
The two men were discussing Evelyn's follow-up treatment outside.
And inside the hospital room, it was the same.
The two women, united in their cause, talked about revenge before returning to the main topic.
Stella cleared her throat, "The doctor said your leg problem is very serious. You can't be left alone from now on. Come home with me. You know I have servants at home, plus a nanny, driver, nutritionist—all kinds of people who can take good care of you. And I'm not working anymore either, so I can look after you."
Hearing Stella's words, Evelyn was deeply moved.
For friends to be able to do this much was already very rare.
But Evelyn didn't want to burden her.
"Stella, I know you mean well and want to take me home to care for me, but you're someone who needs care too right now. You're carrying a baby, and being around a sick person like me every day will affect your mood. So just take care of yourself, I'll be fine."
"How can that work? Are you planning to bring your parents back?"
"How could I? My parents have worried about me for so many years already. I don't want to make them worry about me anymore. I can manage on my own, as long as I have a nurse."
"Absolutely not."
Stella immediately refused, "Your physical condition means you can't be left alone, especially without family around. Don't say another word about this."
The two held their ground, neither giving in.
Evelyn didn't want her condition to burden Stella.
Besides, Stella was carrying a baby now, and being anxious every day would affect the baby's health too.
And Stella didn't want Evelyn to go through treatment all alone, worried it would trigger her psychological problems.
In the end, their voices got louder and louder, alerting the people outside.
The door opened, and Matthew and William walked in.
Stella's expression changed instantly. She was about to tell them to leave when Matthew walked over, pulled her into his arms, and said softly, "Stella, I know you're thinking of your good friend, but shouldn't we let her make her own decision?"
With that, he led Stella out of the room.
The moment the door closed, Stella's expression changed. She slapped Matthew's arm, "What are you doing? Trying to help the bad guy? I already told you, since William and Evelyn are divorced, they should each go their own way and not bother each other."
