Chapter 66 WAR
CHAPTER Sixty-six
The night exploded into fire.
A deafening blast ripped through the quiet air, sending a violent shockwave across the deserted industrial yard. Flames shot up into the sky as the fuel depot erupted like a volcano, swallowing steel tanks and concrete walls in seconds.
Men scattered in the distance, shouting in panic as smoke rolled upward in thick black clouds.
Inside a black SUV parked several meters away, Kane watched the inferno calmly.
The orange glow of the flames reflected in his cold eyes.
He didn't blink.Didn't flinch.Didn't react.
To everyone else, it was destruction.
To him, it was a message.
Abel stepped closer to the open car window, the heat from the explosion warming his face as he looked at the burning depot.
“Everything is ready, sir,” he said.
Kane didn't take his eyes off the fire.
Abel hesitated before adding carefully, “This bomb will take out the whole depot.”
The metal tanks continued exploding one after another, each blast sending sparks flying into the dark sky.
Kane leaned back slightly in his seat.
Satisfied.
Abel shifted his weight uneasily.
“Sir… this is the second depot we've bombed this week.”
Still no response.
Abel glanced at the burning facility again.
“You are really driving Savy out of his hole.”
Kane finally spoke.
“That is the plan.”
His voice was quiet, controlled.
“If he refuses to come out, I will burn everything he owns until he has nowhere left to hide.”
Another explosion thundered through the depot.
For a moment the flames grew even higher.
Kane's lips slowly curved into a faint smile.
If he couldn't find Savy…
Then he would force him to come looking.
Abel nodded slowly.
.
As the vehicle pulled away from the burning depot, Kane kept watching through the window.
His smile slowly faded.
Because the fire wasn't the only thing burning tonight.
His thoughts were restless.
And every single one of them led back to the same person.
Samantha.
Kane clenched his jaw slightly.
He hated admitting it, but the truth had been staring him in the face since earlier that day.
Samantha was distracting him.
Everything that had happened today had proved it.The way she stood up to him in front of everyone. The way she defended Kate without fear. The way she looked at him when he slapped her. Those eyes.
Not filled with hatred. Not even anger.Just fear.
And disappointment.Kane shifted in his seat, irritated with himself.
He shouldn't even be thinking about this.
She was a mutate.
A prisoner.Nothing more.
Yet somehow she had managed to crawl inside his thoughts like a disease he couldn't shake.
He rubbed a hand across his face slowly.
“Pathetic,” he muttered under his breath.
He was getting soft.
And Kane hated weakness more than anything.
Falling for a woman was already dangerous.
Falling for someone like Samantha was insanity.
A mutate.
The very people his world had been built to control.
He scoffed quietly.
“No way.”
The idea alone disgusted him.
He needed space to clear his head before things spiraled out of control.
But one thing was certain.
Whatever strange pull Samantha had on him…
He wasn't going to let it grow.
He wasn't going to let a temporary attraction become something dangerous.
A mere fling from a girl he barely knew.
A girl he technically owned.
Kane shook his head.
No.
He would never mix something like that with emotions.
Never.
Because emotions made men weak.
And weak men died.
The SUV disappeared into the darkness of the highway, leaving the burning depot far behind.
But the chaos Kane had started tonight was only beginning.
Across the city, inside another compound hidden behind high walls and security gates, Savy stepped out of his car slowly.
His body ached with exhaustion.
The last few days had been brutal.
Two of his fuel depots destroyed.
Millions lost in flames.
His men running around trying to contain the damage.
And Kane still hadn't shown his face.
Savy slammed the car door shut and leaned against it for a moment, staring up at the night sky.
His patience was wearing thin.
Kane thought he was clever.
Thought he could destroy everything piece by piece until Savy crawled out begging.
But Kane didn't understand something important.Savy never begged. His phone buzzed in his hand.He glanced down briefly before slipping it into his pocket.
A tired sigh escaped his lips as he walked toward the building.
The guards at the entrance stepped aside immediately.
Inside, the air was quieter.
Colder.
Savy walked into his office and dropped heavily into the chair behind his desk.
new.
He picked up his phone and dialed a number.
The line connected quickly.
“I want you to dig into something for me,” Savy said.
His voice was calm but carried quiet authority.
“Anything, boss,” the voice on the other end replied.
Savy leaned forward slightly.
“I want everything you can find about a girl.”
There was a brief pause.
“Name?”
“Samantha.”
He tapped his fingers slowly against the desk.
“I want her past. Her family. Where she came from. What she was before she ended up in Kane's compound.”Another pause.“Is she important?”Savy smiled faintly.
“Oh yes.”
His eyes darkened with interest.
“I believe she might be very important.”
The man on the other end spoke again.
“Alright boss. We'll start digging immediately.”
“Good.”
Savy ended the call and placed the phone back on the desk.
For a moment he sat quietly again.
