Chapter 34 A LOOP
CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR
GENERAL POV
“Can you stop this?” Kate’s voice cut through the room like a blade. “You cannot just walk into my home whenever you feel like it.”
Savy leaned over the kitchen counter, both palms pressed flat against the surface, his shoulders tense. His eyes were dark, restless, and feral as he stared at his sister.
“I’ve been calling you, Kate,” he said slowly.
She scoffed, folding her arms. “I know. And I ignored every single one of those calls. You know why.”
Savy straightened, his jaw tightening. “You don’t get to shut me out.”
“I do when you send me on a mission from hell,” she snapped. “A mission you didn’t even think through. Three good men died, Savy. Three. And all because you were careless.”
His lips parted slightly, irritation flashing across his face. “How was I supposed to know she had mutate control?” he shot back. “How was I supposed to know she couldn’t be separated from her master?”
Kate laughed, but there was no humor in it.
“The Savy I knew was thorough,” she said quietly. “Strategic. Calculated. This version of you? You’re losing your mind because of that woman.”
She paused, her eyes narrowing. “Heaven alone knows why I’m not dead yet. Kane will kill me if he ever finds out I helped you.”
Savy exhaled, running a hand through his hair.
“Like he haven't”
“I saw her,” he said.
“Saw who?”
“Samantha.”
Her head snapped up. “Samantha?” she repeated. “You saw her?”
“Yes.” His voice softened without his permission. “She looked… different. Beautiful. Nothing like the other mutates.”
“It overwhelmed me,” Savy continued, almost as if confessing. “And Kane… Kane killed a man for her.”
A laugh escaped his lips, low and incredulous. “Right in front of me.”
Kate stepped back slightly, disbelief shown on her face. “You’re not making any sense.”
“I paid men to kill him,” Savy said, his voice darkening. “Men who never miss. Every single one of them died.”
Kate swallowed. “Kane is not an ordinary man.”
“I know.” His eyes hardened. “I know more ways to kill a man than most people breathe air. But with Samantha…” He shook his head. “I lost myself.”
“The only way you’ll ever reign over Samantha,” Kate said finally, “is if Kane is dead. Kill him and take his masterhood.”
A slow smile curved Savy’s lips.
“My greatest pleasure, Kate,” he said softly.
“That’s exactly what I intend to do. And I won’t stop until his head is mounted on a wall.”
Kate’s chest tightened. “You’re playing with death….the real goal is to avenge our parents death”
“He knows the rules,” she added quickly. “He loves, he dies. .”
Savy stiffened.
“Be careful,” Kate warned. “Careful.”
“I will,” he replied, already turning away.
As he walked out of the house.
Outside, Savy entered the car, his man starting the car and as he sped into the darkness.
Unseen eyes followed.
“Boss,” a voice whispered into a phone from the shadows. “We’ve spotted him.”
A pause.
“Savy just left Kate’s house.”
The voice on the other end chuckled. “Perfect.
The plan worked.”
Headlights flickered behind Savy’s bike.
“We’re right behind him.”
,,,
Deep within the ancient sanctuary, torches burned low, their flames dancing against stone walls carved with forbidden symbols.
“Kane has sinned,” the Widow Collector declared, his voice echoing through the chamber. “And he must be punished.”
Murmurs rippled through the council.
“He has desecrated the sanctuary,” another voice added. “He committed a taboo that cannot be undone.”
“Kane should be killed,” someone hissed.
Silence fell.
A figure stepped forward from the shadows.
“Kane cannot be killed,” the voice said calmly.
All heads turned.
“He is the grandson of the Nocturne High Kings,” the figure continued. “The curse does not bind him.”
Unease settled into the room.
“But punishment is necessary, my lord,” the Widow Collector insisted. “The balance must be restored.”
The figure nodded slowly. “He will be punished.”
A pause.
“But not with death.”
“With pain”
Kane’s eyes cut through the dimly lit room as they flew open.
Pain followed immediately.
A sharp, tearing agony bloomed in his stomach as he tried to push himself upright. His breath hitched, his jaw tightening as his body betrayed him. Blood loss still weighed heavily on him, dragging at his limbs, making every movement feel like punishment.
“Boss… you have to calm down,” Abel said quickly, moving closer.
“I’m fine,” Kane grunted, forcing himself to sit up anyway.
Abel shook his head. “You lost a lot of blood.”
“Okay,” Kane replied flatly, already swinging his legs off the bed.
Abel watched helplessly as Kane stood, his hand pressing briefly against his abdomen.
The wound protested instantly, but Kane ignored it, his face hard, unreadable.
He walked into the bathroom, the cold tiles biting against his bare feet. He turned on the shower, the sound of rushing water filling the space as steam slowly gathered.
“Savy took the bait,” Abel said from behind the door. “He visited Kate. He’s on the move now. Our men are following him.”
A weak smile tugged at Kane’s lips as he stepped under the spray. Hot water streamed down his body, he moved to the side where he wasn't hurt so the water wouldn't disrupt the medication
“Tell them to be discreet,” Kane said, his voice steady despite the pain. “I don’t want him spooked. Just find out where he lives and report back.”
“Yes, boss.”.
“I need to see my daughter,” he muttered, more to himself than anyone else.
“Boss… we’re being followed,” one of his men said nervously.
Savy’s lips curled into a grin.
“Wow,” he said, chuckling. “Kane… smart pants.”
He shook his head lightly, amusement dancing in his eyes. “He used my sister as bait.”
Savy stared ahead for a long moment, his smile widening.
“Let’s confuse him for a while,” he said calmly.
The car swerved suddenly, taking an unexpected turn as Savy laughed softly, the sound filled with challenge.
The hunt had officially begun.
