Chapter 118 Reborn
Chapter 118 Reborn
He hunted the others with the same relentless determination.
One by one, he found them. One by one, he killed them. He didn't spare a single one, didn't show mercy to anyone who had been involved in Seraphina's death. He was a force of nature, a storm of rage and grief, and nothing could stop him.
But with each death, the hollow ache in his chest grew deeper. The rage that had driven him began to fade, leaving behind nothing but the crushing weight of his loss.
He had avenged her. He had made them pay. But it didn't bring her back. It didn't fill the void she had left behind.

When it was done, when the last of the conspirators had been dealt with, Gideon made his way back to the clearing where he had laid Seraphina to rest.
The sun was setting, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink. The wildflowers had bloomed, their colors brighter than before, as if they were trying to honor her memory.
Gideon knelt beside her, his body broken and weary, his hands still stained with the blood of his enemies. He looked at her face, peaceful and serene, and felt the tears begin to fall again.
"I did it," he whispered, his voice hoarse. "I avenged you, Seraphina. I made them pay for what they did to you."
He reached out, his trembling fingers brushing against her cheek.
"But it doesn't matter," he continued, his voice breaking. "It doesn't matter because you're still gone. You're still gone, and I'm still here, and I don't know how to go on without you."
He bowed his head, his tears falling onto her hands.
"I tried," he said, his voice barely a whisper. "I tried to be strong. I tried to find a reason to keep living. But there's no reason. There's no purpose. There's nothing left for me except the memory of you."
He reached into his coat and pulled out a blade. It was the same blade that had been used to kill her, the one that had been enchanted with dark magic. He had kept it as a reminder, a symbol of everything he had lost.
"I know you wouldn't want this," he said, his voice raw. "I know you would want me to go on, to find a way to live. But I can't, Seraphina. I can't. You were my heart, my soul, my reason for being. And without you, there's nothing left."
He pressed the blade to his chest, his eyes never leaving her face.
"I'll find you," he whispered. "I'll find you in the next life, and the one after that, and the one after that. I will never stop searching for you. I will never stop loving you. I will never let you go."
And then, with all the strength that remained in his broken body, he drove the blade into his heart.

The pain was immediate, searing, but Gideon didn't cry out. He didn't flinch. He just closed his eyes, a faint smile touching his lips.
He could feel his life slipping away, the darkness closing in around him. But he wasn't afraid. He wasn't sad.
Because somewhere, in the vast expanse of eternity, he could feel Seraphina waiting for him.
"I'm coming, my love," he whispered. "I'm coming home."
And then the darkness claimed him, and he knew no more.
\---
The book slipped from my fingers, landing on the bed with a soft thud that seemed to echo through the silent room. I sat there, frozen, my hands trembling, my vision blurred by the tears that streamed down my cheeks.
I didn't understand why I was crying. I didn't understand why the story had cut so deep, why the pain of two people who had lived centuries ago felt like my own. But the tears kept coming, hot and relentless, soaking my face, my hands, the pages of the ancient book.
I pressed my palms against my eyes, trying to stop the flow, but it was useless. The grief was too vast, too overwhelming. It felt like something ancient and familiar, something that had been buried deep within me for a very long time.
Why does this hurt so much? I asked myself, the question echoing through my mind. Why do I feel like I'm mourning someone I've never met?
But even as I asked, I knew the answer.
I had felt the connection the moment I had seen Seraphina's face in the photograph. I had felt the pull the moment I had touched the tree. I had felt the recognition the moment I had read her story.
She was my ancestor. Not just a distant ancestor, not just a name in a book. She was like my past life, and her blood ran through my veins. Her love, her pain, her sacrifice, it was all a part of me.
And Gideon... Gideon was Zarek's ancestor. The Alpha's son who had loved a witch, who had defied his pack and his people for her. The man who had been cursed to never know peace, to die by the blade of the one he loved, to be reborn again and again in a cycle of endless suffering.
I thought about Zarek, about the pain in his eyes, the weight he carried. I thought about the way he had looked at me.
And I realized, with a sudden, chilling clarity, that the story I had just read was not just history. It must have been a prophecy. The prophecy.
The curse had been laid. Gideon had been destined to die by the blade of the one he loved. And that destiny had followed him through every life, every reincarnation, every love story that ended in tragedy.
And now, it had followed him to me.
I looked down at my hands, at the mark on my palm that matched the one on the tree, the one in the book. I thought about the dreams, the White Witch's warnings.
I thought about the silver knife.
The knife, I realized. The knife that was used to kill her. The knife that was used to kill him. The knife that is destined to be used again.
A sob tore from my throat, raw and broken. I pressed my hands to my chest, trying to contain the flood of emotions that threatened to consume me.
I understood now.
He was Gideon, reborn. And I was Seraphina.
We had been destined to find each other, destined to love each other, destined to lose each other. Over and over again, for centuries, across lifetimes.
And now, the cycle was repeating itself.
A terrible thought entered my mind.
If Zarek was Gideon reborn…And I was Seraphina reborn… Then perhaps we hadn’t been brought together so we could finally have the love they were denied. Perhaps we had been brought together to finish what they started.
My chest tightened.
“No…” I shook my head violently. “I won’t.”
But another voice whispered inside me.
You already did.
