Chapter 114 The Conspiracy Unveiled
Chapter 114 The Conspiracy Unveiled
They kept on meeting in secret, their stolen moments a precious gift in a world that wanted to tear them apart.
Gideon would come to the coven under the guise of needing healing for his injuries, and Seraphina would tend to him, her touch lingering longer than necessary, her eyes speaking the words they couldn't say aloud.
Their love blossomed in the shadows, a flower that bloomed despite the darkness.
But not everyone was happy.
Within the coven, a faction of witches had been conspiring against the werewolves. They believed the truce was a weakness, an opportunity for the wolves to strike when the witches were least prepared. They plotted in secret, their whispers growing louder, their schemes more dangerous.
And among the werewolves, there were those who shared their sentiments. Wolves who believed the witches could never be trusted, who saw the truce as nothing more than a temporary ceasefire.
Both sides were preparing for war.
Seraphina's mother, the High Priestess, sensed the danger. She cornered her daughter one night, her eyes blazing with fury and fear.
"I know what you're doing," she murmured, her voice cold. "I know about the Alpha I know about your secret meetings."
Seraphina's heart seized. "Mother,"
"Don't." The High Priestess stepped closer, her voice dropping to barely a whisper. "You are the most powerful witch in the coven. You have a duty to our people and you are throwing it all away for a wolf."
"I love him, Mother. I've always loved him."
"Love." The High Priestess laughed, the sound hollow and bitter. "Love is a weakness, Seraphina. Love will destroy you. It will destroy all of us."
"No." Seraphina's voice was firm, unyielding. "Love is the only thing that can save us. The war, the hatred, the killing, it's all been for nothing. We need to find a way to coexist. We need to find a way to live together."
"By consorting with the enemy?" The High Priestess's eyes narrowed. "You're a fool, Seraphina. A foolish, naive girl who has no idea what she's doing."
"Then teach me." Seraphina stepped closer, her eyes blazing. "Teach me to be a leader. Teach me to be a warrior but don't ask me to give up the only thing that makes me feel alive, because I won’t do it again."
The High Priestess stared at her, a war of emotions raging behind her eyes. Then, slowly, she turned away.
"You have made your choice," she said, her voice cold and final. "But you will regret it. One day, you will see the truth and when you do, I will not be there to save you."
She walked away, leaving Seraphina alone in the darkness.
———
The shadows in the coven were growing darker.
Seraphina had sensed it for weeks, the whispers that stopped when she entered a room, the glances that lingered too long.
She had dismissed it at first, attributing it to the tension that always accompanied the truce negotiations. But now, as she stood in her chambers, her magic humming with unease, she knew something was terribly wrong.
She had been preparing for her nightly meeting with Gideon, her heart already reaching out to him across the distance that separated them. The truce had brought them closer, their stolen moments more frequent, more precious. But it had also brought danger.
Among the wolves, the same divisions existed. There were those who saw the truce as a betrayal of everything they had fought for, and they were willing to do whatever it took to destroy the alliance, even if it meant destroying Gideon.
Unknown to Gideon, a faction within his own pack had been conspiring against him. They knew he was strong, perhaps the strongest Alpha Shadowfang had ever known. They knew they could not defeat him in open combat, so they sought a different way, a way to prove he was unstable, unfit to lead. And what better way to do that than to use the one he loved?
The plan was simple, brutal, and devastating.
They would take Seraphina.
They knew she was powerful, perhaps the most powerful witch in the coven. They knew they could not hope to defeat her in a direct confrontation. So they sought help from someone who had no love for her, someone who had been consumed by jealousy for years.
The dark witch, Morwenna.
Morwenna had been a member of the coven once, a talented witch who had been passed over for the position of High Priestess in favor of Seraphina's mother. She had watched as Seraphina rose through the ranks, her power and beauty overshadowing everything Morwenna had ever achieved. The jealousy had festered, turning into a poison that consumed her from within.
When the wolves came to her with their proposal, she had been all too willing to help.

The night was cold, the moon hidden behind a veil of clouds. Seraphina stood at the edge of the forest, waiting for Gideon, her heart fluttering with anticipation. She had not seen him in three days, and the separation had been agony.
But as she waited, she noticed something strange. The forest was too quiet. The birds had stopped singing, even the wind seemed to hold its breath.
Her hand instinctively reached for the dagger at her belt, her magic flickering to life around her fingers.
"Show yourself," she called out, her voice steady despite the fear that coiled in her chest. "I know you're there."
The shadows shifted, and figures emerged from the darkness.
Wolves.
At least a dozen of them, their eyes gleaming with malice. Seraphina's heart seized, but she forced herself to remain calm.
"Step aside," she said, her voice cold and commanding. "I have no quarrel with you."
"We have a quarrel with you." The voice came from behind her, smooth and mocking. Seraphina spun around, and her blood ran cold.
Morwenna.
The dark witch stood at the edge of the clearing, her face twisted with hatred. Her magic crackled around her like a storm, dark and malevolent.
"Morwenna," Seraphina said, her voice barely above a whisper. "What have you done?"
"Done?" Morwenna laughed, the sound sharp and cruel. "I've done what I should have done years ago. I've finally found a way to rid myself of you."
Seraphina's eyes flicked to the wolves, then back to Morwenna. She could feel her strength draining, her magic flickering like a candle in the wind.
The dark witch's power was overwhelming, suffocating, wrapping around her like a shroud.
"You're using dark magic," Seraphina echoed, her voice strained. "You're working with the wolves."
"Brilliant deduction." Morwenna stepped closer, her eyes gleaming with triumph. "The wolves want you gone, and I want you gone. It seemed only logical to join forces."
Seraphina tried to fight back, reaching deep into her magic, calling upon the ancient power that flowed through her veins. But the more she fought, the weaker she became. The dark magic was too strong, it was seeping into her very soul and draining her of everything she had.
"Stop struggling," Morwenna mocked, her voice dripping with contempt. "It will only make it worse."
The wolves moved forward, their hands reaching for Seraphina. She tried to run, but her legs gave out beneath her, her body collapsing to the ground. The last thing she saw before the darkness claimed her was Morwenna's triumphant smile.
