Chapter 103 The Serpents Nest
Chapter 103 The Serpents Nest
One of the wolves stepped forward, a scarred veteran with cold eyes. "The Alpha is strong," he said, his voice rough. "He has the pack behind him, he has the Elders, the warriors, the hunters. How do we stand against that?"
Then another wolf immediately disagreed. “Strong?”
A younger wolf scoffed. “He’s stronger than any Alpha we’ve had.”
Then another replied, “Strength isn’t enough.”
Kieran met their gaze, unflinching. "We stand together. We stand united, we stand for what is right." He paused, letting the words sink in. "Zarek Nox has led this pack for too long. He has made decisions that have cost us everything, he had allied with the witches, had allowed them to infiltrate our territory, has corrupted the very bloodlines that made us strong."
Another wolf stepped forward, her eyes burning with conviction. "He has forgotten what it means to be a wolf. He has forgotten our traditions, our history, our purpose. He has become weak, and weakness spreads like a disease."
Kieran nodded slowly. "You are right. Zarek is weak. He has always been weak. He hides behind his hybrid nature, pretends to be something he is not. But we see the truth. We have always seen the truth."
The wolves began to stir, their energy building, their excitement palpable.
"We need to act quickly," Kieran let out, his voice dropping to barely a whisper. "The boss wants to take charge soon. He has been patient, but his patience is wearing thin, he wants results, he wants action and we are going to give it to him."
The wolves leaned forward, their attention focused entirely on Kieran.
"Zarek is gone," Kieran continued. "He has left the pack vulnerable. He has left the territory unprotected. This is our opportunity, this is the moment we have been waiting for."
A ripple of agreement moved through the wolves. Kieran could see the hunger in their eyes, the desperate need for action.
Kieran voiced out. "We need to clear up all obstacles. We need to remove anyone who stands in our way."
He paused, letting the weight of his words settle over the gathered wolves.
"This means the Elders," he said, his voice cold and precise. "This means the Beta. This means anyone who is loyal to Zarek, anyone who would oppose our cause."
A murmur of approval rippled through the chamber.
"And what about the girl?" one of the wolves asked. "The one Zarek brought here? The one who has been causing so much trouble?"
Kieran's expression flickered, just for a moment.
"Sylvia," he said slowly. "She is complicated. She is connected to things we don't fully understand. But don’t worry about her, I can handle her."
"Or we can eliminate her," another wolf suggested, his voice harsh.
Kieran met his gaze, his eyes were cold. "We will do what is necessary. But for now, she is more useful alive than dead. She is a link to the prophecy, she is a key to the power we seek. So leave her out of this conversation."
The wolves exchanged glances, their expressions shifting from excitement to calculation.
Kieran stepped closer to the wolves, his voice rising with conviction.
"Zarek Nox has led this pack for too long. He has failed us, he has betrayed us. And now, he will pay the price for his treachery."
The wolves erupted into applause, their voices rising in a chorus of approval.
Kieran let the sound wash over him, feeling the power of it, the energy of the rebellion he had been building for so long.
This was the moment he had been waiting for.
This was the moment everything would change.

The meeting continued long into the night, the wolves discussing strategies and plans, debating the best way to achieve their goals. Kieran listened, nodded, offered guidance when needed.
But his mind was elsewhere.
He thought about Zarek, about the years they had spent together, the battles they had fought, the bond they had shared. He thought about the friendship he was about to betray, the trust he was about to shatter.
And he thought about Sylvia.
She was a complication, a variable he hadn't fully accounted for. She was connected to the prophecy, to the White Witch, to the silver knife. She was a key to something bigger than any of them understood.
But he also didn’t want to hurt her.
He was silently contemplating his decisions.
The wolves began to disperse, slipping back into the darkness from which they had come. Kieran watched them go.
One of the wolves lingered, approaching him with a cautious step.
"Kieran," the wolf said, his voice low. "Are you sure about this? Are you sure you're ready to go through with it?"
Kieran met his gaze, his eyes cold. "I've been ready for years. I've been waiting for this moment, planning for this moment. And now, it's finally here."
The wolf nodded slowly. "And the girl? Are you sure about her?"
Kieran was quiet for a long moment. Then, slowly, he forced his words out. "She is a pawn, a piece on the board. I will do what is necessary."
The wolf accepted, disappearing into the darkness.
Kieran stood alone in the chamber, the flickering torches casting dancing shadows across his face.
"This is the moment," he murmured to himself. "This is the moment everything changes."
He turned and walked into the darkness, leaving the chamber behind.
The rebellion had begun.

Zarek POV
The drive was long, the silence heavy.
I stared out the window, watching the landscape blur past. Trees and hills, shadows and moonlight. The world outside felt empty, hollowed out, like everything had been drained of color and meaning.
My mind kept drifting back to Sylvia. Her face, her voice. The way she had looked at me when I accused her of using me.
I had hurt her. I had hurt her so badly, and I hadn't even given her the chance to explain.
"Stop it," Brennan said suddenly.
I turned to look at him. "Stop what?"
"Whatever you're doing in that head of yours." His eyes were fixed on the road ahead, his expression unreadable. "You're going to drive yourself crazy if you keep thinking about her."
"Then what should I think about?"
"The mission, the Blood Fang. Anything other than what you left behind."
I laughed bitterly. "You make it sound so easy."
"It's not easy. It's never easy." He glanced at me, his eyes sharp. "But it's necessary. If you want to deal with this faster, you need to focus. You need to be present. You can't afford to be distracted."
I nodded slowly, knowing he was right. But knowing it and doing it were two very different things.
"How much further?" I asked.
"A few more hours. We'll reach the rendezvous point by dawn."
I leaned my head back against the seat, closing my eyes. The darkness behind my eyelids was filled with images of her.
I didn't deserve that love. I had never deserved it.
But I wanted it. God, I wanted it more than anything.
“If she knows you at all Zarek, she will know that this wasn’t about her.” Brennan chipped in some words.
I opened my eyes, staring out at the darkness ahead. The road stretched on, endless and uncertain.
"I hope you're right," I said quietly. "Because if you're not, I've lost everything."
Brennan didn't answer.
The road stretched on, carrying us toward the unknown.
