Chapter 41 Chapter 41
Chapter 41 Chapter 41
Marcus POV
The light was so bright I could hear Charlotte talking to someone, but I could not see who she was talking to. I felt my way to her, and I was able to find her in the light. I caught her just as she was dropping to her knees. She was screaming in pain. What the hell was going on?
"CHARLOTTE, WHAT'S WRONG?"
She continued to scream. I saw what was happening to her arm. A tattoo was forming but being burned into her skin. She finally stopped screaming. The bright light was gone, and she was on the floor with tears in her eyes. I looked at her arm. This was the mark of the sea goddess. There was no way this had just happened. She was truly the great-granddaughter of Calypso. Only the blood relative of hers can have that mark. There was no other tattoo like it. Even when people try to tattoo, it will never take on the skin. The design would be messed up.
It would start getting messed up, and then it would go bad. I picked her up and carried her to bed. She feels lighter than when I first carried her. What is going on? She has lost weight. That was not good. She was already skinny, but now she has lost more weight. She is not eating. It had been almost two weeks since she was actually awake to eat. Starting tomorrow, I'm going to get her to eat. This poor girl must hate me. I helped get her away from where she was being forced to marry someone that she did not want to marry. Now she has been stabbed, cut, drugged, and now she isn't eating.
Things are going to change starting right now. I wanted to go get her some more food, but that was not going to be possible. She needed to rest right now. After helping her to bed again. We talked about what the tattoo could mean. I needed to talk to my mother about this. She would know better than anyone because she was more knowledgeable about this particular subject. Whatever was in charge of fate was really giving me a handful of craziness. It was definitely going to be an interesting life. I would not have it any other way. This was my life now, and I was going to embrace it. Charlotte is my queen, and that was not going to change.
We fell asleep and were woken up some time later by the roosters. I lay in bed for a moment, and Charlotte woke up.
" Good morning."
Even though she tried to say good morning without letting me know she was in pain, I could tell. It was as if I could feel her pain.
"Good morning."
" Charlotte, are you hurting?"
" Yes."
I got up and got her some wine. I put a pinch of opium in the cup. I knew that the amount would help with the pain. It also made her sleepy, which is fine. But she only drinks a few sips. That would help with the pain. She then put it down and lay back. After she lay back, I left the room to go get her some breakfast. I walked down to the kitchen, and Eleanor was already in the kitchen cooking. She was an amazing woman. I did not have to say much to her. She knows her place, and she is always doing what she needs to do. When I walked into the kitchen, I was greeted with a warm smile.
" Good morning, sir."
" Morning, Eleanor."
" How is Charlotte this morning?"
"She's alright."
She handed me a cup of coffee. I took it with much gratitude. I needed this coffee this morning. It was a long night, and I had so much to do today. The first thing I was going to do before doing anything else was to go talk to my mother. Eleanor made me a plate of food. She knew I was going to take it upstairs to Charlotte, so she put extra food on it. I also got her a cup of coffee and then headed up the stairs to Charlotte. When I walked in, she was staring at the new tattoo. It is more of a mark than anything. She would have the rest of her life now.
" Marcus, why did the sea goddess give me this?"
" Because you are the new sea goddess."
I could tell that she did not want this honor. I don't blame her. Having that much power was going to be hard; she needed to learn how to control it. I would help her with what I could help her with. Then my mother would have to help her. I knew that my mother would be more than willing to help her. My mother was great at teaching new witches their powers and giving them a head start on things. She would teach her everything she knew. Just like she taught me everything she knew. I still had a lot to learn. However, I knew that I could teach her what I knew and then help her learn what we both needed to learn.
I really needed to learn about potions and poisons. I knew that certain poisons could be used to kill people. Certain things could be used to put people to sleep. I needed to learn those things. I have not made time to learn them. We still needed to prepare for the rescue mission. I need to make sure that all the food is ready and the water is loaded. The ship that we are going to be using needs minor repairs. Also, a bed needs to be put in it. The last time I sailed on it, there was just a cot that I slept on. It was just me sleeping in the captain's cabin. Now there was going to be a woman who would need things. I wasn't worried about the clothes; she seemed happy with whatever she was given and what was made for her.
I was lucky to find a woman like her. She never really complained. I think it was because she has been through a lot and wanted to start a new life. She had yet to try to change anyone. I feel bad for her because her whole world is changing, and she is powerless to stop it.
