Chapter 54

Jason..

It's been four days since Alice told me about Eve's whereabouts, which makes it ten days since she left home, but due to work, I haven't been able to visit her.

But today, I've cleared my schedule and I was ready to go and visit her.

Today marks the day that everything changes and I hope it changes for the better.

I hope it turns out well.

"You look nervous." Jade said to me and I nodded.

"That's because I am." I said quietly.

We soon drove to Ethan's book cafe and I must say it was really brilliant.

I should have known Eve would be here, the only person Max can ask help from to hide Eve would be his boyfriend, why didn't I think of that earlier?

I entered the Cafe with jade behind me and walked up to the counter.

"Welcome to our book cafe, how may I help you today?" She asked, looking down at what she was arranging as she hasn't noticed me yet.

"Eve." I called her name quietly which made her snapp her head up to look at me.

"Jason." She paled the moment she saw me.

"What are you doing here?" She asked but I was lost looking at her.

Did I do this to her?

I could notice the eye bags under her eyes and how they looked at me void of emotions, how she looked drained and her skin looked rough. These past few days must have been tough on her.

"Can we talk?" I asked but she downright ignored me.

"How did you find me?" She asked.

"Alice told me." I said truthfully and she scoffed.

"I should have known." She said dejectedly and I understood.

"No, it's not like that, I swear." I tried to convince her.

"Please, just give me a chance to explain." I begged her and she agreed grudgingly.

"I'll give you ten minutes, if you don't say what you have to say within that time limit, I'll leave." She said bossily and I was shocked. I have never seen this snappy Eve before. It was surprisingly thrilling to watch.

She gestured to me to a seat far away from the crowd in the room but still easy enough to spot.

She put her hands on the table the moment she sat down and I looked at them.

I took her hands in mine but she pushed them away.

"Maintain your distance." She said coldly and I nodded.

"Now speak." She said bossily and I nodded again.

"I.." I paused. For days, I've been rambling about how I wanted to meet her and tell her my true feelings but now that she was right in front of me, I don't know what to say. It's like my throat ran dry and the words were cut out from it.

"Speak up, we don't have all day." She snapped and it jolted me to my senses.

First, I needed to clear the misunderstanding of the divorce agreement.

"I didn't divorce you." I began and she scoffed.

"Sure, you didn't." She said doubtfully and I understood her. With my constant rudeness towards her before, it's hard to believe that I didn't divorce her.

"I swear." I said as I began to explain what truly happened. The issue with Clinton and that he was the one who sent it through a courier and I never planned on divorcing her at all.

"Okay fine." She said looking a bit more at ease but she still didn't lower down her cold demeanour.

"I'm sorry I pretended like we didn't have sex." I said and I could have sworn I saw her blush.

"I know it didn't mean anything to you." She began but I was quick to cut her off.

"No.. no.." I stopped her.

"It meant everything to me." I said quietly.

"Eve, I know I've always acted like a jerk towards you and I regret that."

"For the past ten days, all I could ever think of was you, I missed you so much and it was killing me."

"It was then I understood how much you meant to me."

"And I'm sorry for being a coward all this time and not manning up to tell you the truth." I said in all forms of truthfulness.

"What truth?" She asked.

"The truth is that I.." I was still talking when a loud voice shadowed mine.

"We're getting married." The loud voice boomed in the cafe and I shot my head to the door only to see Alice standing there with a smirk on her face.

"What is she doing here?" I mumbled.

"Are you seriously asking me that question?" Eve snapped angrily as she got up from her seat.

"Now now, don't run away just yet, Eve dear." Alice said, walking towards the both of us.

"Alice, stop it." I warned her but she wasn't even listening to me instead she faced Eve.

"See this.." she said pointing at the bracelet in her hands.

I recognized that bracelet.

"That's mine." Eve gasped.

"Nope, it's not yours." Alice smirked.

"Go on Jason, tell her." Alice nudged me but I pushed her away.

"Tell her what, Alice!" I snapped.

"That you gave this to me." She laughed.

"You gave it to her?" Eve looked at me with wide eyes.

"No, I didn't." I said immediately but she didn't look like she believed me.

"He's lying, Eve, he bought it for me and I didn't like it so I asked him to throw it away but he gave it to you and as fate would have it, it found its way right back to the owner." Alice lied through her teeth making me angrier than ever.

"Is that true?" Eve asked me.

"No, Eve, I swear." I said but she simply looked away from me.

"Both of you, get out." I heard someone else say and it was Max.

"I swear Eve, I didn't give her anything, just listen to me." I begged but she just walked away. Alice seemed to be satisfied with what she had done.

And she laughed in satisfaction the moment we were thrown outside the cafe.

"Why did you come here?" I asked angrily.

"I won't let you have your happy ending Jason." She scoffed.

"You're mine and mine only." She said angrily.

"You're delusional, I don't love you." I said angrily.

"Then you should because I won't let you love someone else, here's your little bracelet." She said, throwing Eve's bracelet to me which I caught and she walked away.

I knew I wouldn't be allowed to enter the cafe anymore and so I just left instead.

"It will be fine, at least she knows that you didn't divorce her." Jade tried to make me feel better.

"The divorce papers can be nullified if both parties say they're not getting divorced again so it will be fine." Jade said again, patting my back and I nodded.

We drove straight to my house and when we arrived, I invited him in for dinner. It was the least I could do when he's been helping me out all week long.
