Chapter 123

Eve.

"But having another woman plot against me just to ruin my happiness is even more painful than the patriarchy system." I said quietly and Alice shot me a look.

I could tell from the way that she was looking at me that she wasn't expecting the last words I said.

I wasn't expecting this either.

I didn't think that I would go full angry mode like an activist trying to prove a point but I was utterly frustrated.

And although the doctor told me to be careful not to get stressed since I was still in my first trimester and I could cause harm to my baby, I couldn't help but get angry at Alice.

Knowing fully well that Jason was in the hospital and he might never get to properly walk again.

She has done more damage than good to me already.

I don't know why she hates me and even if I did know, the reason wasn't valid enough.

"As women, we're supposed to help each other out but you've done everything in your ability to destroy my life and all for naught." I said and she scoffed.

"Help each other?" She finally spoke up with a scoff.

"And why should I help you?" She asked with raised brows.

"Are we related?"

"Are we friends?"

"Why should I help you secure the man that you stole from me?" She asked angrily and I smiled before laughing despite the tears falling from my eyes.

I was laughing and crying at the same time.

She looked at me confusingly. I laughed and cried for a short while before stopping and sniffing while I cleaned my face with my handkerchief.

"You can only say someone stole something from you if it is yours."

"But Jason wasn't yours to begin with."

"Jason is an individual who is able to make his own decisions."

"What you both did have together was simply business related!"

"You pleasured each other, so what?"

"That doesn't give you the right to say that you own him" I yelled angrily and she shut up her mouth as if in shock.

"When Jason and i first met, we weren't even planning to get together but you already hated me because you saw me as a potential threat but in fact, you forgot the fact that you weren't even a candidate."

"If this was a competition then you weren't even registered because you've been with Jason for more than a decade and he didn't look at you that way and then I just met him and in less than a year, he's willing to sacrifice even his life for me." I said and she frowned.

"That's not..." She was going to say that it wasn't true but I beat her to it.

"Alice, the reason I came here today is to tell you that you've lost."

"I bet you never thought that timid and naive Eve could stand here in front of you today and say all these words but I can and I will and I am reminding you that you are fighting a losing game."

"You've already lost and it's best you stopped crying over spilled milk."

"This battle is over." I said quietly before sitting down back in front of her.

Max, who sat by my side through the whole thing, was stunned.

Well, I understand, I wasn't one to say how I was feeling or say a lot of hurtful words to someone I hate because I barely have people I dislike gravely.

"You're wrong." Alice suddenly said, making me scoff.

Does this woman never give up?

Does she not get tired?

"You're wrong!" She repeated a little louder.

"This fight isn't over!" She said and I smiled.

"It is." I said getting up from my seat and signalling for Max to get up too.

I faced detective Dave who has been watching us converse for the past hour and bowed slightly to her.

She understood what I was trying to say.

I was saying that I was going to leave now and so she can take Alice back.

"You've lost this war already." I said to Alice before leaving the room with Max.

"I haven't, you'll see." Alice said loudly as she watched me leave the room with Max.

"Doesn't that lady ever give up?" Max scoffed angrily.

"I mean what could she possibly do from prison or now that she's in shackles and chains?" Max scoffed angrily as we walked away.

Although Max was right, I couldn't help but feel a bit scared.

A few minutes ago when I was lashing out at Alice, I didn't feel this way because I have never said my mind before.

I never had a chance to correctly put Alice in her place despite all the bad things she said and did to me.

As we walked out of the police station, I saw a few police officers standing with Mark in cuffs.

I assumed they were waiting for Alice so they could transfer them to the corrections institute until the day of their trials.

According to what I heard, they'll be tried together on the fudge's case and then Alice will be tried for attempted murder in Jason, blackmail on Sophie and Mark would be tried for rape, assault and illegal surveillance generally known as stalking.

I was determined to ignore Mark and act like I didn't see him but he called my name and that's when I noticed that he looked different from before. He looked very pale and his eyes were sunken in. He looked like he was sick. I guess staying behind bars does a lot more to someone than I can imagine.

I've only met him a few times and those times, he looked like he was a loud and jovial man. And now I could see the resemblance between him and Alice.

If I was told that the man in black would be Mark then I wouldn't believe it because he's the last person that would come to my mind, in fact I doubt if I'll ever think it's him because he saved me once and we've only met on a few occasions.

"What?" I snapped the moment I heard him call my name.

"I'm sorry." He said and I scoffed.

I've been told that he can go from being nice to being cunning and sly so I wasn't going to fall for his petty trick at all.

If he is trying to convince me that he was actually apologetic for almost costing me the life of my unborn child, then he must be kidding me.

"I didn't mean to do it, I swear." He yelled as I walked away.

"Shut up!" I heard a police officer say to him but I didn't turn back or pay attention.

Once we were out of the police station, I turned to face Max who had not said a word for a while.

"What?" He asked with raised brows.

"Let's grab something to eat, I'm starving." I said and he chuckled before flagging down a cab so we could go get food from a nearby restaurant before going back to the hospital.
