Chapter 91 Chapter 0091
•NATASHA•

“We shouldn’t be here, Nat. There was no need for Richard to invite me to dinner. This was supposed to be a dinner for two.”

I rolled my eyes and sighed as the car parked in the restaurant’s parking lot.

Not only was the place expensive, but people also highly recommended it. The cars that were parked there were mostly sports cars.

It seemed like Richard wanted to go all out for dinner to impress someone, and that wasn’t me.

He knew I didn’t like fancy places, no matter how much money we had in our bank accounts.

“Please don’t forget the reason we are here, Susie. Richard might have planned this for you, and if he did, I want to know what he plans to do next. This is our only chance to discover what happened to his friend when he told us he got kidnapped.”

“You know I don’t—”

“If he makes you uncomfortable, we will leave. I won’t let him make inappropriate moves on you, and that’s my promise. Please trust me.” I took her hand when we got outside the door of the restaurant.

She nodded, and I smiled at her. “Thank you for doing this for me. It means a lot, and I won’t make you regret it.”

“Don’t you dare.”

When we walked inside the restaurant and spotted the table Richard had reserved for us, I smiled and hoped I wouldn’t lose it quickly and expose his lies.

It would be hard sitting at the table and pretending that he wasn’t playing in my face for money.

“Darling, you look beautiful.” He stood up from his chair and kissed my cheek while his friend helped Susan sit down next to Richard’s chair.

“Thank you, baby. You look good yourself, and I love that scent on you. New perfume?” I whispered, giggling.

He really tried hard to impress Susan, including getting a new perfume, suit, and haircut. I was out of words and didn’t know whether I should laugh.

“This is our first dinner date since we got back together, and I wanted to make it special.” He helped me sit next to Greg.

“Thank you for inviting me,” Greg nodded, and I smiled at him.

When we had ordered our food, the conversation seemed to flow, and we were laughing and talking about random stuff.

That was until I excused myself to use the bathroom, and Greg followed behind.

When we got to the hallway, he grabbed my wrist. “Nat? Can we talk for a second? There’s something I need to tell you.”

I wanted to pee, but because I wanted to know what he wanted to tell me, I yanked my hand from his grip and folded my arms across my chest, giving him a chance to say whatever he wanted to say to me.

“When Richard called and told me that someone was following you and Susan, it made me angry, and I realized I had wasted so much time instead of telling you how I truly feel. Richard may have been your husband, but I could’ve been better for you. I want to be better for you. Do you think you can give us a chance?” He asked, and I couldn’t believe his nerve.

Greg had been Richard’s friend forever. He wasn’t supposed to say things like that to me.

“You’re kidding right now, aren’t you? Richard is your friend, and I have a child with him. What you’re doing right now is disrespectful and unacceptable!”

“Were you going to fuck me if I weren’t Richard’s friend?”

“That’s ridiculous. Get off my face.”

“You want me, Nat. You’ve always wanted me. I saw the way your eyes met mine as I entered the club and then paid for you to dance for me in the VIP section. Do you remember how you rocked your body against mine? The lap dance? You probably couldn’t see that it was me, but I jerked myself off every time I remembered that night.” He leaned forward, smirking, and I felt a knot in my stomach.

“Do that again, and you’ll regret it. Do you hear me?” I pointed my finger at Greg before I walked past him and headed to the women’s bathroom.

“I’ll fuck you, Nat!” He chuckled. “And make you see I can be better for you.”

When I returned from the bathroom, the mood at the table had changed, and Susan looked uncomfortable sitting next to Richard.

I knew when she looked at me he had made her uncomfortable, and I had to do something about that before I broke my promise of protecting her.

“Richard, do you want us to go home? We should let Susan and Greg go home for the night. They might be tired after such a long day,” I suggested as I reached for Richard’s hand.

“Tired?” he scoffed. “We haven’t had dessert yet.” He looked at Susan for a lingering moment and proved everything I suspected was right.

“I’m sure Greg needs to rest after having a long week. He was away from his family and friends and almost died because of us. We wouldn’t want to keep him for long.” I took my glass of juice and sipped.

“I had a long day, Natasha’s right,” Susan scoffed. “It’s difficult managing companies and having personal time. The body takes time to adjust sometimes.”

“It’s remarkable how inspiring to many women you are, Susan,” Richard complimented her. “It takes courage and confidence to do what you do, and I can’t imagine how hard it must be to carry all these responsibilities by yourself.”

“Yeah, it makes it hard for me to find time to date. My wealth intimidates most men who think I want a competition. What do you think, Greg? Are men intimidated by businesswomen?” Susie asked.

“Well,” Greg looked at me, and I grabbed my glass of juice on the counter and sipped, finding it hard to forget our conversation in the hallway. “Men who aren’t bringing their A-game get intimidated by women.”

“That’s right, Greg,” Richard added. “If you trust your woman and are proud of her, you wouldn’t take her achievements as a threat.”

“So, what do you think about men who use women for money?” Susan asked, sipping the wine from her glass.

“What?” Richard laughed. “Men who do that are gold diggers, just as there are female gold diggers. Anyway, shouldn’t we be on our way home? It’s getting late.”

Susan and I laughed when we got outside the restaurant and headed to the car in the parking lot.

“Did you see his face?” She laughed. “He couldn’t believe it!”

“Your nerve to ask him such a question. He’ll hate you, Susie.”

“At least I gave him something to think about. He called himself a gold digger. There’s nothing more humiliating than that.”

“That was actually smart.” I turned and looked at her. “He’s probably wondering if you know the truth about his scheme. God!” I laughed so hard as I hopped into the back of the car.

“Men gold diggers!” Susie yelled out the window as the limo drove out of the parking lot, and we laughed.
