Chapter 103 Chapter 0103
•LORENE•

\[TWELVE YEARS AGO\]

“Close your eyes, baby, no peeking.”

“Oh, Anwyll, another present? You’ve been spoiling me rotten these past few days.” I giggled as he led me with a blindfold.

“This is our second wedding anniversary, and I want you to know just how lucky I am to have you as my wife. You’ve filled my days and heart with so much joy, and I’ll live the rest of my life proving to you how important you are to me.”

“Oh, baby,” I blushed. “I am the lucky one.”

When we stopped, Anwyll took off the blindfold from my eyes and stood beside me. “Now, you may open your eyes.”

I squealed when I opened my eyes and saw my favorite band playing with a dinner table in the middle of the empty restaurant.

“Anwyll,” I looked around the place in disbelief. “Is this the Sapphire Lounge?” I asked, the feeling of exhilaration overwhelming my senses.

“The one and only,” he answered as he took my hand and led me to the dinner table.

“My God,” I cooed. “This is beautiful, babe. I love this place and have been dying to come and eat here for months. I can’t believe you booked the whole place for us.”

“I got all this money to spoil you, my love. You’ve been with me through everything. You held me down and never left my side, no matter what life brought my way. So, you deserve all this. You deserve everything that your heart desires.”

He helped me sit down, and I looked at him as he walked to his chair, and I couldn’t believe I was falling in love with him all over again.

“Thank you, baby. You’re an amazing husband, and I am so grateful for the wonderful two years of marriage. You’ve been my best friend for over three years, and I won’t exchange you for anything.”

“To three years of bliss and two years of marriage,” he raised up his wineglass, and we made a toast. “I will love you forever, Lorene.”

“Forever and ever?” I giggled.

“I cross my heart and hope to die,” he chuckled as he leaned over and kissed me. His kiss was gentle and reassuring.

The music in the background filled the air with serenity, and I figured it would be the best time to tell him the news we had been hoping for in the past two years.

I was so happy that finally, I would be a woman in his eyes and in his family’s eyes, who had assumed I was a barren woman.

“I have news, my love,” I beamed as I placed my hand on top of his. “First, what do you say we go on a holiday for a few days?”

“Hmm,” he grinned. “What news do you have for me? You know I’m not a patient man, and to make things easier for us, maybe you can tell me now.”

“I—”

The door creaked open, and when I tilted my head and saw three police officers heading toward us, I looked at Anwyll, confused.

He motioned for me to calm down as he stood up. “Officers, how may I help you?”

“Are you Anwyll Rogers?” The police officers asked when they arrived at our table.

My husband looked at me before he answered. My heart skipped a beat, thinking that they were going to arrest him.

“Yes, I am. Is there anything wrong?”

“My apologies, Mr. Rogers, for barging into the restaurant while having dinner with your wife, but we are here for her,” the officer replied.

My stomach tightened at his response, and I gasped. He had to be mistaken. I couldn’t even remember breaking the law.

“You’re here for me?” I asked as I stood up from the chair and stood near my husband.

“Yes, Mrs. Rogers.”

I scoffed as one officer leaned forward.

“Mrs. Rogers, you’re under arrest for the murder of Ryan Johnson. You must come with us to the station for questioning.”

I gasped. I had to be dreaming. Not only was I in a prestigious restaurant, but I was with my husband, Anwyll, celebrating our second wedding anniversary.

“No. This has to be a joke. I didn’t kill anyone. I don’t even know Ryan Johnson. You have the wrong person. My husband here can testify to that.”

“Mrs. Rogers, you must come with us to the station.”

“Why?” I exclaimed. “I didn’t kill anyone! I don’t even know the person you accuse me of killing. Officers, I am innocent, and I won’t go anywhere!”

“Officers, please,” my husband stood in front of me. “There has to be a mistake somewhere. My wife and I are celebrating our second wedding anniversary, and we don’t know anyone by that name. My wife wouldn’t kill anyone, let alone a fly. She’s clearly not the person you’re looking for.”

“Bran,” the officer in front motioned to the one behind him, and he slipped pictures from an envelope and showed them to us.

“That’s Mrs. Lorene Rogers, isn’t it?” He asked as they showed us pictures of me speaking with a random man in a shopping mall.

“Yes, that’s me, but it explains nothing about why you think I killed him. I don’t even remember the conversation I had with him. It was probably about an item he wanted from the store, but he couldn’t locate which aisle it was in.”

“The grocery store showed us a video of you running him over with your car. He died on the spot after you drove away.”

“What?” I exclaimed. “That’s not true! I didn’t run him over.”

“You can come with us to the station peacefully, or we will forcefully take you there ourselves, ma’am.”

“I am not going anywhere! You can’t accuse me of a crime I have never committed.”

Without hesitation, two police officers grabbed my arms and dragged me to the door while I screamed, ordering them to let me go.

“I’ll get a lawyer!” Anwyll exclaimed behind me as they dragged me inside their vehicle and drove to the station with me.

When I got there, they put me in a cell and left. There were two women there who just laughed when they saw me.

“Isn’t she Anwyll Rogers’ wife?”

“She is a murderer.”

On that fateful day, I lost everything. Including my first child, I thought I would bear for my husband, Anwyll.

If I had known, I wouldn’t have met Roman.
