Chapter 333 Battle and Sacrifice

Chapter 333 Battle and Sacrifice
Eleanor's POV

I helped the others hang lanterns around the party area, trying to ignore the knot in my stomach. The sun was setting, casting long shadows across the forest clearing. Every movement felt weighted with purpose as we prepared our staged celebration that would soon become a battlefield.

"Just a little higher, Eleanor," Scarlett called out, motioning with her hands. I stretched on my tiptoes to hang the lantern at the perfect height.

We carefully arranged platters of finger foods on the long tables, making sure everything looked authentic. I poured the special non-alcoholic punch into a large crystal bowl that Sebastian had insisted we use. It caught the last rays of sunlight, sending tiny rainbows dancing across the white tablecloth.

"Do you think they'll actually eat any of this?" I asked, placing silverware and plates beside the food.

Olive shrugged, adjusting a centerpiece. "Probably not, but it has to look real."

Someone had started playing soft music from a portable speaker, the gentle melody at odds with the tension in the air. We all moved carefully, speaking in hushed tones despite being alone. Each of us was acutely aware that soon, this peaceful scene would transform into chaos.

I looked around at my friends and family, wondering if we'd all make it through the night. The thought made my chest tighten, but I pushed the fear down.

We were just finishing the preparations when I heard the sound of a car approaching.

"Someone's coming," I whispered, every muscle tensing.

To my surprise, Lana stepped into the clearing with Keisha beside her. She was in her true female form, standing nearly six feet tall with long, leaf-green hair flowing down her back. Without her glamour, she was magnificent and intimidating.

Sebastian stepped forward. "Lana, what are you doing here? I thought you were only sending your warriors to assist us."

Lana's face was set with determination. "I cannot let you face this alone. What kind of leader would I be if I didn't stand with my allies when my people are in danger? I will not hide while others fight."

I admired her courage, but before I could say anything, more cars arrived. Our friends and allies began to gather, creating small groups throughout the clearing. The air hummed with nervous energy as everyone prepared for what was coming.

A female warrior dressed as Robert's mate approached me, gently pulling me into a hug. "Luna Lillian is at home with her children, praying to the Moon Goddess for everyone's safety," she whispered in my ear.

As the warrior moved away, I spotted Theodore and Thea walking toward me.

"Papa!" I called out, rushing to embrace him. Thea hugged me too, her touch surprisingly warm.

A mixture of fear and excitement coursed through me as I looked around at the gathering. The hunters could be watching us right now, hidden in the surrounding forest. My hands trembled slightly at the thought.

"You're shaking, Eleanor," Theodore observed, his voice low. "I can smell your fear."

"I'm trying to stay calm, papa," I admitted.

Theodore's eyes scanned the darkening forest. "It will begin soon. I can already feel the energy in the forest changing as the hunters approach."

"The battle won't last long," he continued, confidence in his tone. "We have tremendous power on our side. We will annihilate them for their arrogance."

Thea leaned in close to Theodore's ear, her lips brushing against him as she whispered, "You look so sexy when you're ready for battle, daddy."

Despite the tension, I couldn't help but laugh softly at Theodore's eager expression. "I should give you two some privacy," I said, backing away.

I spotted Sebastian and Gavin deep in conversation at one of the tables, their expressions serious. As I moved toward them, a wolf's howl pierced the night – our signal.

Immediately, all the lanterns were extinguished, plunging the clearing into darkness. I waited a moment, then followed the plan, transporting myself back to the house to collect Evelyn before returning to the battle.

"Thank you, Eleanor," Evelyn whispered, squeezing my hand before running out into the forest. In the moonlight, I watched her figure disappear among the trees.

I ran after her, adrenaline pumping through my veins. The forest was alive with screams, howls, growls, and gunshots. Chaos surrounded me as I moved deeper into the trees.

Suddenly, a man appeared in front of me – a hunter. He had no scent, clearly having used a masking agent. He raised his gun toward me, but I was faster. Using my half-vampire speed, I appeared behind him. Remembering Theodore's lessons, I twisted his neck sharply.

The sickening crack sent a thrill through me, a rush of excitement pulsing through my veins. I picked up his gun and moved on, the weapon feeling alien and heavy in my hands.

I'd never fired a gun before, but I figured it couldn't be that hard. When I spotted a hunter sneaking up on Olive, I took aim and pulled the trigger. I missed completely, the recoil catching me by surprise. The sound alerted Olive, who spun around and set the attacker on fire.

I dropped the gun and slipped away quietly. "I have no idea what I'm doing, and my wrist hurts," I muttered to myself.

A scream nearby made me turn. Keisha's vines were wrapping around a hunter's throat. The man's eyes bulged as the tendrils tightened mercilessly, strangling her just a few steps away from me with a satisfying crack of breaking cartilage.

A male hunter ran past me, tripping and falling. Within seconds, a werewolf pounced on him, flipped him over, and began tearing into him with powerful claws. All around me were the sounds of battle – gunshots, wolf howls, vampire hisses, and human screams.

I sniffed the air, trying to catch Gavin or Sebastian's scent. Picking up Sebastian's familiar scent, I followed it to a small clearing between several tall trees.

Sebastian was fighting a hunter armed with a wooden stake and a large knife. In the moonlight, Sebastian's silver hair shone brilliantly. They circled each other briefly before the hunter charged, stake raised high, hatred burning in his eyes.

Sebastian moved with supernatural speed, plunging his hand into the hunter's chest. The movement was clean, efficient. He pulled out the man's heart and held it in front of him before dropping it on the ground. The hunter slowly sank to his knees, then collapsed, life rapidly draining away.

I smiled, relieved to see Sebastian handling himself so well. I hoped Gavin was doing just as well wherever he was.

Then I saw her. Melissa stood in the shadows on the other side of the clearing. Her hair was pulled back tightly, and she wore all black hunter gear. Her face was hard, but in the moonlight, I could see tears glistening in her eyes and determination in her stance.

She raised a crossbow loaded with a wooden stake, aiming at Sebastian's back. Sebastian was facing me, unaware of the threat behind him.

"This is for my father, you bloodsucking monster," Melissa growled.

In that moment, time seemed to slow down. I realized Sebastian couldn't see her. I used every ounce of my half-vampire speed to rush toward him, grabbing his arm and pulling him aside.

The stake whizzed past, and Melissa's triumphant smile faded as she disappeared into the forest.

Suddenly, I lost control of my legs. An unbearable burning sensation spread through my chest. I looked down, confused.

"Eleanor, what have you done?" Sebastian whispered, reaching out to steady me as I began to slide downward.

Sebastian carefully helped me lie on the ground. A mournful wolf howl tore through the forest, filled with grief and pain.

Moments later, Gavin burst into the clearing in wolf form. He shifted back to human, sliding on his knees to my side, terror in his eyes.

"We need to remove the stake," Sebastian said urgently. "If she dies with the stake inside her, she won't come back."

"I'm not ready for you to be a full vampire yet, angel," Gavin whispered, his voice breaking.

"Gavin!" Sebastian shouted. "Pull out the stake. I can't touch it – I'll lose my strength and won't be able to save her. Only you can do it. Now!"

Gavin's hands trembled as he gripped the stake in my chest. His eyes had shifted to wolf-gold with emotion. I wanted to comfort them both, but every breath brought searing pain. I could only watch silently as Gavin tightened his grip and yanked the stake out with one swift motion.

"Give me your shirt," Gavin told Sebastian, who immediately stripped off his black shirt and handed it over.

Gavin pressed the shirt tightly against my chest, trying to stop the bleeding, but the weapon had done its damage. Blood continued to flow, and my vision began to blur. The world was growing darker around me.

"I love you both so much," I whispered, my voice barely audible.

"It's going to be okay, Eleanor. We removed the stake. You'll be fine," Gavin reassured me, but I could hear the fear in his voice.

"I'll teach you everything you need to know, princess," Sebastian choked out. "You're going to be fine, and then we can spend countless nights together."

I smiled weakly and closed my eyes, feeling the cold exhaustion of blood loss spreading through my body. "I'm sorry I can't help everyone anymore," I sighed, letting the feeling wash over me.

As I slipped into darkness, the world disappeared completely.
