Chapter 51 I want your blood
Evan couldn’t resist that sensation. She could feel it strongly enough to make her flinch. Her heart skipped a bit, making Ezekiel smile. His lips lifted as a silent chuckle left his lips.
“You’re awake?”he asked. He was very sensitive to hearing. He could tell when someone was sleeping or awake through their heartbeat. Ezekiel had an ability for knowing which creature you are through your heartbeat. Like humans have different heartbeats from other creatures. He could tell a vampire’s heartbeat. Pureblooded vampires have different heartbeats from normal vampires. Rogues have a different kind of heartbeat as well. Black witches and white witches have different heartbeats.
Ezekiel used his time to study all those heartbeats so he could differentiate them all.
“Are you awake?”he asked again. Seeing the girl remain unmoving, he decided to go back to his room. It was a long day after all. Thank the heavens it only showered and didn’t rain much.
…
The next morning, before Evan woke up, fresh fruits were sliced properly and served on the table, patiently waiting for her. According to her orders, she said she wanted only fruits in the morning; when she needed any cooked food, she would be sure to inform them. All the maids were happy because their master Ezekiel usually had bloodtea for breakfast. Sadly, this morning there was no bloodtea served. This left Evan a little mystified. She kept wondering if he wasn’t going to have breakfast this morning.
Did the death hurt him that much?she couldn’t help but ask herself.
He wasn’t even at the dining table. He usually got up first. So what happened today? Taking her seat, she began to dig into her food, and then she heard footsteps behind her. Turning her shoulders, she saw Ezekiel. His face was as strong as stone. His eyes were frozen ice.
“Good morning,Master Ezekiel,” she greeted, but sadly no response was produced from Ezekiel. He just stared into space as if unbothered by what was happening.
“Give me your right hand.I want your blood for my meal,” he said, making Evan blink. At first she remained unmoving as though she hadn’t heard anything. She thought maybe she had misheard him.
“I am waiting,” Ezekiel added, making her frown. She hesitated at first but handed her hand to him. Looking at her hand properly, she discovered something was strange. Her wounds—they were gone.
Ezekiel also seemed to notice.
“How did you heal so fast?”he asked, mystified. His eyes grew with suspicion. Evan quickly took back her hand, using the other hand to rub it.
“Haha, you know, you used your lips in licking it. Perhaps your saliva healed it,” she lied. Yes, vampires can heal themselves quickly.
If a pureblooded vampire applies his blood or saliva to an injured person’s wound,it will fasten up the healing process. But it can’t possibly heal it all in such a short span of time.
Taking her hand,he bent down, biting it. Evan flinched at first, but then after a while she maintained the pain, trying to compose herself.
When he was done, he pulled away, licking the spot first. After letting go, Evan used her fingers to brush the spot Ezekiel had bitten. Thinking the duke would go so she could continue eating her food, surprisingly he sat down on the other end of the table, unfolding a letter as his eyes glued to it. Shaking her head vigorously, she started eating her fruit.
Soon breakfast was over, but Evan stubbornly refused to go. She was summoning courage to ask him how last night went.
“How was last night?”The words left her lips quicker than she had expected. Slapping her lips as she realized it.
“Good,”he surprisingly replied, sparing her a glance.
Someone knocked on the door and a maid rushed to get it. Opening the door, the red-headed vampire came in together with three councilmen officials. Rebecca tagged along. As soon as Ezekiel saw them, he stood up from the dining area and went to the sitting room. Sitting lazily on one of the armchairs.
“Welcome,”Ezekiel greeted. “Please make yourselves comfortable, everyone,” he added.
“Miss, I want to know who you are. Your name, please,” one of the councilmen asked Evan. They were all Ezekiel’s men.
“Anna,”she replied. To her, she would formulate another name. At this moment there wasn’t any suitable name she could think of. Ezekiel lifted a brow, his gaze traveling to Evan. Seeing his expression, she gave a slight smile at him.
“You’re Anna?” Simon the red-headed asked.
“Are you the white witch Anna?Or am I wrong?” Simon added.
“Oh yeah. You’re wrong. I am no white witch,” she said, making Ezekiel breathe out in relief.
“Please everyone, have a seat,” Ezekiel repeated.
“But I am the Anna you speak of,”Evan’s last words left Ezekiel’s mouth fallen open.
Smiling hard, she walked into the sitting room, taking a seat on the armchair nearest to her.
Evan acted normal while everyone in the room was left dumbfounded.
“What? You’re the Anna we’ve been searching for? Seriously?” one of the councilmen said, sitting as he took a seat. Rebecca walked to where Evan was sitting, taking a seat not too far from her.
Everyone all sat down. But their eyes never left Evan—except Rebecca and Ezekiel.
Noticing their long gaze on Evan,Ezekiel decided to ask.
“What did you all come here for?”
“We came here to investigate Evan’s death as you have asked.”This made Evan’s heart skip a bit.
“I never asked you to come here.”
“Yes,Master Ezekiel, but this morning dead witches’ bodies littered the ground of a particular small village. We have no idea how they got there or who killed them. Our investigation reads that they were performing a ritual.”
Ezekiel’s brow knitted as he carefully thought who must have done that.
This is Greenwave and no one would come out of nowhere in the middle of the night and plan to kill black witches. Not even a pureblooded vampire. Only a council group could do such.
“I think the black witches have a new enemy.I wonder who it is.”
“It’s me.”The door swung open as Ella came in.
