Chapter 135 135

Chapter 135 135
Kimberly’s POV

When I got home, I was too tired, and it was obvious on my face. Even my parents saw it, but they did not say anything about it. Since the news they told me about, they have hardly spoken to me.

Well, they have tried, but I was the one who wasn't giving them a chance to talk too much. I really did not have anything to say in the real sense. As much as I knew that it was not their fault, I just wanted to be alone and help them as much as I could.

There was a knock on my door not long after I slumped on my bed, and my mum peeped her head in.

“Hey love.” She whispered and stepped in. I turned to my side to face her.

“Is everything okay?” I think that is what is always on my mind these days. If everything was okay.

“Hum…. Yes, yes. It’s all good.” She said quietly as she walked closer and sat on my bed. I could smell the but coming from a distance.

“There is a dinner that you need to be present for. It’s between our family and the Ashfords.” She said, and I grunted. That was one thing that I was sure would later happen. The encounter that would be between the two of us. It would come sooner rather than later, no matter how much it’s been avoided.

“When is it?”

“Tomorrow night.” She said, and I nodded and turned my back to her.

“I need to sleep, Mum,” I said to her, and without waiting for her reply, I let sleep pull me under.

The following day came very fast, and thankfully, it was a weekend, and I did not have to worry about having to go to school or to have an encounter with Julian after yesterday’s episode. I would have hated myself if that had happened.

The evening turned in faster. I checked what I was wearing again in the mirror, and when I was feeling more comfortable about it, I stepped out and met my parents downstairs. They did not say anything as soon as they saw me.

The car ride down to the place was quiet. By the time we pulled up in the area they lived in, I knew why London wielded the kind of power that he did. We were not poor. I mean, my parents were rich. But there is always the richer class too.

This area was meant for people like them. The estate looked and smelled like money as soon as I stepped out.

It was a whole mansion that stood on a small hill at the end of the place.

We were directed inside by a butler who actually looked like a butler, and that was hilarious to me. I wanted to laugh, but I kept myself from doing so. I sighed and entered the house. If I thought the outside was incredible, the inside was insane.

I was still admiring it when an older version of London walked out from a corner with a slant on his lips that I would like to assume is a smile. He looked funny. He would do better if he actually dropped it, since he looked really weird putting that on his face.

“Welcome. Hope you’re not mad that I brought you here? We could have met at a neutral place, but then I wanted to impress. My chef is the best in town.” He boasted, and I rolled my eyes internally.

“It’s an honor.” My father said in a clipped tone that was reserved for business that I knew very well. We were led to the dining area, and it was a full platter. Different foods than I could process at the same time. And then, there was London sitting at the side already eating.

“Your manners are nonexistent.” His father said to him, and he just shrugged. I mean, that’s typical London for you. But I could sense from the irritable expression on his father's face that they did not get along. No father would look at their son the way he was looking at him right now.

When we were finally settled in, the man’s eyes settled on me.

“So, you’re Kimberly ?”

“Yes, sir,” I said simply. His eyes gave me the creeps.

“It’s going to be really nice to have you be part of the family.” He said, but he sounded anything but thrilled. That’s okay since I was not thrilled myself. We have that in common.

When I was served food, I played around with the food, only eating the green stuff and potatoes. Staying away from the meat. I don’t know why I could only bring myself to really eat what Julian made for me. And I think that’s a very bad trait from my own end. There is no way he’s cooking for me again. I bit my tongue to keep my emotions in check.

I’ve already gotten used to the fact that I won’t have him do anything for me again. There is no point in dwelling on it. My parents were in business with the man, and I zoned them out.

My life was being discussed in front of me, and there is nothing I could do about it. I don’t even have the strength to do anything.

“You look like you will throw up,” London said from the opposite side of the table since he was sitting directly in front of me.

“Obvious much?” I said to him, and he just looked at me with this funny look on his face. He’s already made it known to me that he does not want this as much as I do.

“Try not to show it. You would worry your poor mother.” He whispered. I was about to retort when a loud presence showed up in the place, and London’s dad stood up.

“I didn’t think you would show up again.” He said to the person who had just arrived. When I looked back, I was shocked down to the bones at who I saw.

“Everyone, my friend. Arnold Alexander.”
