Chapter 11 The Dying King.
PRINCE DOMINIC POV.
My father's scent was still prominent in the air. It hangs in the room like a reminder that he's still here, even though it doesn't seem so anymore.
It's strange not to have him look at you with his piercing grey eyes the minute you walk into his room. He was always seated at him study table, watching whoever enters like a hawk. I always felt he could see through the soul.
My father; King Nicolas Darkshadow. One of the strongest vampire the supernatural world has ever seen. He has ruled the vampire kingdom for five hundred years, protected us when the shadow monsters thought they could bring our Kingdom to ruins.
But that was all before he was wounded by the same creatures we all feared, and now here he lay bedridden for eight months now. He looked nothing like the powerful king we all admired, nothing like the father I feared and respected.
His skin was pale, a lot paler than normal for a vampire. His fangs were out, yellow and weak. The shadow monsters venom must have reached his mouth. His eyes closed and lid black and swollen.
My father looks like a corpse who had nothing more but a few days to live.
We have tried everything possible to save him. Gave him blood, gave him herbs, called in a human doctor. We did everything we could, but there was no result. He still lay there, breathing but dead.
"There is no progress prince Dominic." The doctor informed sadly. His name is Julian and he was a human before he became a vampire of his own free will. Thanks to him we were still able to keep father alive until now, but it doesn't seem like it would be for long.
I slowly reached forward to touched my father's hand which lay limp at his side. I flinched at its coldness.
This is nothing but a fragment of the powerful man we all knew and respected.
"You must keep trying Julian. Father must wake up!" I said desperately. If my father doesn't wake up, chaos would arose within the vampire Kingdom. Some of the elders were already eyeing the throne. They had always deemed me unworthy because my mother was a human, she wasn't one of them. I was an outcast and they hated me even though they were afriad to speak up.
Though an outcast, I was one of the most powerful vampire in the vampire Kingdome and I have proved myself in many ways. Not only was I dangerous, I'm also deadly. Who ever crossed the line with me, never lives to tell the story.
They all knew this and they feared me, but I know if my father dies, they will all gang up on me and try to take the throne away from me. They had all concluded that my sister Carmine was a better ruler for them than me, but she's not here. When the vampire world needed her the most, she vanished. I have sacrificed a lot for them, but still they wanted her.
I scowled at the thought of her and pushed her out of my mind. Carmine was my elder sister, a poison to my veins, the only vampire I could never defeat besides my father.
She was loved because she was full blooded and I was hated because I was an outcast, hence the reason why I despised her with everything in me!
Whatever the outcome of father's illness is, I shall fight for my right as King. It was the very reason why I left the human world and returned home. I had to make sure father doesn't breath his last in my absence.
Lysander and Linus walked into the room. I heard their scent before they even arrived. They were my two most trusted advocate, and besides doctor Julian, they were the only one who knew where my father is kept.
"Your highness, the car is ready for departure." Lysander informed.
I gazed unto my father's sickly face with sadness, sighing tiredly. I really hope you will live father. You can't leave me just yet.
To Linus I said, "we shall leave together Linus. You must accompany me to find the seer again. I have to do whatever I must to save my father."
He bowed. "Yes your highness."
I looked at Lysander, "and you Lysander, watch over the human girl in my absence. If anything happens to her while I am gone, you will answer to me."
Lysander bowed his head in obedience, "I'll do as you say your highness."
To doctor Julian, I said. "We shall leave now doctor. Keep him alive until we find the seer. I am sure she will tell us a solution."
Julian nodded, "but you must be careful your highness. Try not to get injured by the shadow monsters. You were miraculously saved last time, but goddess knows what would happen if you get injured by their poisonous claws again."
"I will."
We walked out of the room and left the house. The car was ready just as Linus had said. He opened the backdoor for me and I got into the car and we drove into the morning.
As we left the mansion, my thoughts went back to that night when I was saved by that woman. I had just come in through the portal separating the human world from the supernatural world. I had no idea the shadow monsters were lurking around, and unfortunately they caught me when I least expected.
What amazed me most was the human girl I saw. How did she see the portal? How did she come into the supernatural world?
Humans can't see it and they can't even come in. It would look like a normal forest to them, but this girl. This cute, kind, angry kitty lady managed to break every rule in the book.
How?
She intrigued me from the very moment I set eyes on her. Her smell drove me insane. She smelt like something crafted for my own pleasures and mine alone, and when she looked at me, I could see right through those bewitching grey eyes. She wanted me and she wasn't even being discreet about it.
This human girl who knows my identity in the human world, a dangerous Mafia lord who makes the life of many innocent people miserable, yet she didn't run away. Yet she didn't leave me to die, yet she tore off the hem of her dress to save me.
She thought I have forgotten her or pretending not to know her, but it is hard to forget a girl like her.
Humans were selfish, cruel, evil and greedy. But this girl didn't even think about saving herself first. She thought about saving me, and that made me intrigued by her.
I have no idea how those poisonous wounds were able to heal so quickly after she wrapped them with her torn cloth, but I knew it had something to do with her.
Her blood, it smelt so alluring for a reason. If a mere piece of her dress could save me from the shadow monsters venom, then imagine how powerful her blood is.
I don't know who she is or what she is or if she's even really human, but I know for sure that no one if going to have her.
No one but me!
