Chapter 92 Epilogue: Just The Beginning.
The scent of freshly brewed coffe and breakfast filled the breakfast table. It was made precisely for Camille's little human toy, as the rest of us in here are vampires. I can eat human food, but I wasnt feeling the need right now, but Camille and Lysander hated it.
Right now, I just really miss Kate. She left last night because her mom was expecting her back home early, but I was honestly looking forward to seeing her at school. Although I had no idea what to do about my sister and her little human.
I heard them last night in his room, and the scent of plesure drove me insane. There was obviously something going on between them. I could see it in their eyes, but i didnt want to ask yet in order not to sound like Im intruding. Camille and I havent acted like actual brother and sister for a while now. At some point I hated her for stealing father's love, but now I've realized that's just stupid of me.
Nevertheless, I decided to tease them a bit. I leaned against my chair, while I watched them with an amused smile. I transfered my attention to Josh and said. "You know, Josh," I said casually. "As a human, your hearing is notoriously limited. But as a vampire prince, my hearing is exceptional. Tragically so."
Josh stopped chewing his toast, looking up at me like a deer caught in headlights.
Beside him, Camille stiffened, her fangs grazing her lower lip. "Domenic, don't you dare."
"I’m just saying," I continued, a wicked smirk spreading across my face, "if the two of you are going to practice your... vocal exercises at three in the morning, you might want to invest in soundproofing. Or at least a muzzle."
Josh’s face instantly turned the color of a ripened tomato, his eyes darting to the table. Camille’s cheeks flushed a vibrant crimson, a rare sight for a vampire, and she aggressively threw a linen napkin at my head. "Shut up, Domenic! You are insufferable."
I chuckled, catching the napkin effortlessly. "I am simply a concerned brother asking for a good night's sleep—"
Lysander barged into the room, cutting my laughter short. I frowned at him. "Is there a problem Lysander?"
"Your Highness, I just received a call from Quinn. The vampires have Kate. They have them both and Quinn is very scared right now. She doesn't know about our kind."
Camille was on her feet in a millisecond, her eyes flashing crimson. "Its probably Giron’s men. He found us."
"He wont take Kate, not on my watch," I snarled.
That pathetic, power-hungry rat from the Vampire CCouncil.Taking his eyes must not have been enough. I can see he was still going after my heart. He was going after Kate.
"Get ready Lysander. We are leaving, now!"
We left Camille talking to Josh who seems confused about the whole thing. She would probably join us later.
We tore out of the house, moving at speeds invisible to the human eye. The city blurred around us, but my mind was laser-focused on the scent of Kate.
We arrived at the alleyway behind Kate’s house in seconds.
Her mom is probably not home. She usually leaves very early for work. That's a relief, because the scene before me was one that made my blood boil and my fangs descend instantly. Quinn was pinned against a brick wall by a burly vampire, sobbing in terror. And in the center of the alley, a tall, scarred rogue held Kate. His filthy hand was twisted into her hair, yanking her head to the side to expose her neck.
"Let her go," I commanded, my voice echoing with the dark, heavy authority of my royal bloodline.
The rogue holding Kate looked up and sneered. "Ah, Domenic. The runaway prince." He dragged a claw lightly down Kate’s jaw, making her whimper. "What a pathetic excuse for royalty you are. Playing house with cattle while ignoring the Council." I knew him. He was Girons right hand mind. I'll kill him before the end of today.
"I will rip your head from your spine," I promised, taking a slow, lethal step forward.
"Giron sends his regards," he mocked.
Before I could cross the distance, the vampire buried his fangs deep into Kate’s neck.
Kate screamed, her knees buckling.
"NO!" The roar tore from my chest, vibrating with enough force to crack the pavement.
I launched myself forward. Camille and Lysander moved with me in a deadly synchronized strike. Camille tackled the rogue holding Quinn, tearing him away from the human girl with lethal grace, while Lysander intercepted two others that dropped from the fire escape above.
I slammed into the leader, tackling him away from Kate and driving him through the brick wall of the adjacent building. Dust and debris exploded around us. I mounted him, my claws extending, ready to tear his heart from his chest—but I froze.
The rogue wasn't fighting back.
He was gasping, his eyes wide with a sudden, suffocating terror. Thick, black veins rapidly spider-webbed up his neck from where Kate’s blood coated his lips. He let out a wet, strangled choke, his skin turning a sickening shade of grey.
"Fucking hell! Wh- her blood." He chocked out struggling to breath.
Within seconds, his body seized, and he collapsed backward, entirely dead.
I stared at the corpse in shock. Her blood poisoned him. How was that possible?
But I didn't have time to dwell on it. Behind me, the sounds of combat died down as Camille and Lysander finished off the remaining vampires.
"Domenic..." Kate’s weak voice broke my trance.
I spun around and rushed to her side, dropping to my knees. She was slumped against the alley wall, pressing a trembling hand to the bleeding puncture wounds on her neck. Her skin was pale, her breath coming in shallow gasps.
"I've got you. I'm right here," I whispered frantically, pulling her gently into my lap. I tilted her head back, my heart aching at the sight of her pain. "Hold still, my love."
I leaned down and pressed my tongue to her wounds. The taste of her blood was intoxicating, sweet and fiery—not poisonous to me, somehow—but I fought my instincts, allowing my saliva to do its work. The vampiric enzymes knit her broken skin together, sealing the bite marks until only two faint pink scars remained.
Kate let out a soft sigh, her eyes fluttering open. She reached up, her warm fingers brushing against my cheek. "You came. I told the fucker that you would rip his head off."
I chuckled. "You seem to have done all that on your own." said pressing my forehead against hers. My hands were shaking, the terrifying reality of how close I had come to losing her crashing over me.
Lysander was busy checking if Quinn was okay. The poor girl fainted when she saw us fighting. Obviously, she's terrified by the existence of vampires. I saw the way Lysander looked at Quinn. Perharps he has also found a reason to fight.
"It seems Giron knows where we are." Camille spoke. "Do we have to move?"
I helped Kate up and held her to me. "We go no where. I will be here waiting for Giron. I'm not afraid of him, and I'm never going to let him take Kate away from me." I sighed. "If you wanna go, you can. But I'll be here with Kate."
"I'll stand with you no matter what your highness." Lysander spoke with loyalty. "Whatever happens, I shall fight by your side."
I smiled and looked at my sister. "What about you Camille?"
Despite myself, I wanted her to agree. I may not admit it, but I cared about her and it would be easier to keep her closer than farther away from me.
She sighed. "Fine, I'll fight by your side. I'll take it as a way of making up to you because I kind of lead them here."
I made sure to hide my grin. "That's cool then. What about Josh? Would he be here with you?"
"Yeah, I got him into this mess, so I must protect him." She replied rubbing her neck shyly. "And, I kind of like him."
"Kind of?" I teased.
She rolled her eyes. "Fine, I like him alot. Happy now?"
We all laughed.
I helped Kate into her house while Camille and Lysander followed with Quinn unconscious in his arms as he effortlessly carried her in.
I know this is not the end. Giron would stop at nothing to get his revenge on us, but as long as I'm surrounded by the people I love, I'm sure things will work out.
Whatever Giron or father throws at me, I will overcome as long as I protect Kate in the process. That is my promise.
THE END!
