Chapter 150 A Dark Fate Ahead.
KATE’S P.O.V.

The stream before me was clear and cold. I could see the glow of the setting sun in the shimmering water and it made me smile a bit. I knelt by the bank, splashing the icy water onto my face, but it did nothing to wash away the exhaustion that had settled into my bones. I was tired beyond measures.

We had been traveling for days. The two Lycan trackers Raymond had sent with us were relentless and eager. They smiffed the air day and night hoping for a sign of Khaos, but we were already out of the vampire kingdom, and yet there was no sign of him. I feared the war might have already happened. Its been a week already.

Everything felt strange to me. It's as if Khaos had simply vanished from the face of the earth. Every time I reached out with my mind, trying to find that spark that connected our minds, I found only a vast, echoing silence. It seems Khaos has broken the link, but is that even possible?

I felt a precense settling beside me and looked to my side to find Domenic sitting down on a green grass beside me, his hand rested on my shoulder with a warm smile which I returned. He looked tired, but his eyes were sharp and ever watchful.

"Are you okay kitty?" He asked gently studying my sad face with a frown.

I shrugged sadly, "I don't know Domenic. We don't have much time, and there still isn't any sign of Khaos. I'm losing hope."

He sighed and pulled my head to rest on his shoulder. "It seems you are still very worried."

"I’m not just worried Domenic, I'm terrified. The Moon Goddess didn’t just warn me about a war. She told me that a greater evil would surface once the war begins. She said if I didn't find Khaos soon, things would escalate beyond anyone’s control." I looked toward the horizon, where the sky seemed unnaturally dark. "If this war finds its way to the human world, what would happen to Lucia my sweet little girl? What would happen to our family and friends Domenic? The humans are fragile creatures, we wont be able to handle it."

Domenic hushed me gently and held me closer to him. I closed my eyes letting the familiar scent of him calm me down. "We will find him," he promised, his voice gentle against my ear. "And Lucia is with Quinn. She’s safe, Kitty. We won't let anything happen to her. Stop worrying now okay, and let's focus on finding that stubborn God of protection."

He kissed my head gently and I smiled. That was all the encouragement I needed. Maybe there was still hope anyway. I still have Domenic, and thats all I really need right now.

All of a sudden, the earth began to groan. It was a deep, rhythmic shudder that seemed to come from
the very core of the world. The birds in the trees went silent. The stream beside us suddenly turned murky, as if the silt at the bottom had been stirred by a giant’s hand.

The two Lycans bolted forward from the bushes their eyes wide and glowing in panic and urgency. "Something is coming! Something very dangerous." one of them shouted, his voice cracking with a fear I had never heard in a Lycan before. "We have to leave! Now!"

Domenic let go of me and we both stood up quickly, his fangs dropping and his eyes snapping toward the tree line. He took a deep breath, sniffing the air, and his face went pale. "Oh fuck, what the hell is this?!" he whispered. "I’ve never felt an energy like this. Its so powerful."

"Could it be Khaos?" I asked hopefully but Domenic shook his head.

"This isn't Khaos Kate, we have to leave now."

He grabbed my hand in his and we tried to run in the opposite direction from the coming danger, but luck wasn't on our side. In a heartbeat, we were surrounded.

I gasped as I stared at the creatures before us in horror. They were ugly looking and looked deadly and animalistic. These were literally physical and walking nightmares. Their bodies were made of a dense, oily darkness that looked like obsidian, and their limbs were elongated and jagged. Multiple eyes—yellow and hungry—glowed across their warped faces. They looked like the shadow monsters created by Helios, but these ones looked more dangerous.

Domenic immediately stepped in front of me, his claws extended and fangs flashing dangerously, shielding me with his own body. "Where did they come from? Helios is dead. There shouldn't be anything left to command them." He spoke in a trembling voice.

I stared at the creatures, in horror and fear as realization dawn on me. "This is it," I whispered, my voice barely a breath. "This is the evil she talked about." This was what the moon goddess was talking about.

Against these things, we were nothing. No creature in the world could stand a chance against this monsters except the beast; Lord Khaos, and he is no where to be found. This means, the war has happened and now the supernatural world was already falling.

Suddenly, a voice entered my head. It was small and soft and familiar. I was quick to realize that it was the moon goddess voice, but it seems distance away. Her words however, were troubling.

‘The time is here, Kate. The world is about to face its greatest horror. The Dragons, and the Faes have already been wiped clean from the earth, leaving only the Vampires, the Lycans, and the humans who are safely separated from this world.’

I let out a broken sob, my knees feeling weak. Some creatures were wiped clean? God knows what would have happened to others. Some might be seriously injured, or worst dead.

‘The Vampires and Lycans will live in hiding for the rest of their lives,’ the voice continued, ‘for they are no match for the disaster unleashed upon this earth. Until Khaos is found and brought to his senses, the world will remain in misery. But my curse remains. Khaos would never know the joy of love. Love will only bring him pain and misery. That is my curse on the Beast who turned his back on his purpose.’

Tears spilled down my cheeks. I closed my eyes firmly, surrendering to the crushing weight of the revelation. All hope was gone. The world was ending, and the one being who could stop it was now trapped in a curse.

I reached out and took Domenic’s hand. He turned to look at me, his eyes wide with surprise at my sudden gesture, but when he saw the broken look on my face, his shoulders slumped. He seemed to understand without a single word being spoken. He managed a small, bittersweet smile and tightened his grip on my hand, pulling me close one last time.

If this was the end, at least we were together. We could only pray that wherever Quinn and Lysander were, they would find each other and help keep our daughter safe.

We stood there, hand in hand, as the shadow monsters began their final lunge.

But this was not the end. The true war was only just beginning.
