Chapter 48
Trinity
I woke up the next morning in the hotel room with a smile on my face. We had had sex all night: first on the beach, then he’d taken me up to our hotel room. I didn’t remember all of it, but I could still feel the ache from it all and it made me happy. I sat up expecting to find Lucian beside me, but I was alone. There was a note on the bedside table.
Call for room service. I’ll be back soon.
I smiled and pulled my legs to my chest, wondering how long he’d been gone and if he’d be back before I really got hungry.
A beep filled the air, and the door opened. Lucian walked in, fully dressed in a dark blue suit. He looked at me still in bed and cocked an eyebrow at me. Then, he looked at his watch.
“I must have been a little rougher on you than I thought.”
My face heated as I felt the necklace settle against my chest. He came around the bed cupped my face, turned my head to both sides. He kissed me gently nipped at my lip.
“As much as I would like more of you. I have things to attend to today. Would you like to stay here, or should I take you home?”
I shook my head. “Take me home.”
He nodded. “I’ll let you get cleaned up and order food for you.”
Then, he walked away. I was almost disappointed that he didn’t seem even a little tempted to change his plans. Maybe it was just me that wanted to be together all the time. Then, something chimed. He stopped in the doorway and turned to me. His eyes were bright red, and his lips twitched. He checked his phone before smirking again. He set his phone on the dressed and walked back towards the bed. He unbuckled his belt and pulled the blankets out of my hand. My heart raced with anticipation.
“My plans have changed.”
He grabbed me by my leg and pulled me down on the bed before falling over me. He kissed me and I couldn’t help but smile as I wrapped my arms around him and let him show me exactly how much he really did want me.
I was giddy on the ride home. I ached from all the sex we’d had the night be before and when we’d had sex right before we left the resort, but I was overwhelmed by how much I could feel that he loved me. And how much I loved him. It was just like people used to say to me about really being in love. Every thought I had of him made it feel like I had only been living half a life before I met him.
It felt a little like a dream as the car drove us into town. We held hands the entire way there. When the car stopped, I pouted. He kissed me.
“I’ll see you again soon,” he said as he slipped out of the car.
“I love you,” I said.
“I know,” he replied and closed the doors.
I smiled watching him walking into a building that I didn’t recognize. I guessed was another business he owned. Maybe it was another blood bank. Then, the car pulled away and my phone chimed. It was a message from HR at the university, confirming that I was being released from my job and my internship was being transferred to my hospital. I was happy about it, but I was still said.
I wish I didn’t have to work. I wish he didn’t have to work so we could spend all of our time together. The more I thought about it. I realized that because of his wealth, I didn’t necessarily have to work. In fact, I didn’t even necessarily have to finish my degree. He’d already bought me a hospital. I could just run it without finishing my degree. Sure, I wouldn’t be able to do all the clinical work and become a psychiatrist the way Sindia was, but I would have more time to be with him.
I smiled. I know that he bought that hospital for me and he was the new dean of the university. That meant he was probably pretty busy, but that didn’t mean that we couldn’t spend most of our time together, especially if I had less things to do on my end.
I got out at Mark’s home and walked inside. My dad wasn’t there and neither was Mark. I took the time clean the entire house. I washed my sheets and aired out the house as much as I could. Part of me knew that it was silly to think that he would be free to come back soon, but I wanted to be ready.
The next day, my dad was going on his date before his shift so he would be gone for the whole evening and through the night. Mark still wasn’t here, so I sent Lucian a message asking if he could come over.
I’ll be there around six.
I ate something my dad left for me, cleaned some more, and waited for Lucian to arrive. I turned off all the lights except the lamp in my room.
When he arrived, he was still wearing his suit but he didn’t look tired.
“Come this way,” I said, leading him to dining room table. I sat him in a chair and gave him a blindfold to put on.
“What’s this?”
“A surprise,” I said. “I didn’t think… just turning off the lights would work.”
He chuckled. “No, it wouldn’t.”
“Promise not to peek?”
“I promise,” he said.
He tied it on his face, though I still got the sense that he could see me. Then, I snuck into the hallway bathroom. I took a shower and tried to keep clam about what I’d planned. I dried off then I walked out. I climbed onto the table.
“You can take it off now.”
He slipped it from his eyes. His eyes were burning red as he looked at me and I stared back. My heart was racing as I thought about what his eyes were telling me that he’d do to me. He stood and licked his lips, walking to stand between my legs. He drew his hands up my legs. I wrapped my arms around his neck and met his gaze.
“Please, drink my blood.”
His eyes flashed a bloody red. His mouth opened and his fangs dropped. He leaned closer and I kissed him gently. My heart racing at the thought that he was going to bite me. Would it hurt? Would it feel good the way it seemed to in all the vampire movies?
He leaned closer, dropping his head. I leaned my head aside letting me rest his mouth against my shoulder and breath. I shuddered at the low growl that came from him.
“I can smell you,” he whispered. “You smell excited… and good… delicious…”
I shivered. “I… well…”
I swallowed, not sure how I was supposed to reply to that so I tilted my head further back, fully baring my throat to him.
“Please, Lucian,” I whispered. “I want this.”
I pulled him closer, wanting him to bite me, but he barely moved. I pushed my hips against his until I could feel how hard he was, but still, he didn’t move.
“You… You smell so…”
I felt the tips of his fangs dragging across my skin. I shuddered. My heart felt like it was thudding in my ears.
“I…”
“Please, Lucian… Please…”
He pulled away from me with a snarl and turned from me.
I stared at him before sliding off the table.
“Don’t,” he growled, holding a hand out. “Don’t come any closer.”
“But… Lucian, I thought…” I dropped my gaze. “You always say that my blood tastes good. I thought you’d want to—”
“No,” he said.
“But, that’s not an answer. Why not?”
He turned back, glaring at me. “I don’t want you to become a vampire too.”
I blinked at his words. I didn’t know what to say, but then I realized that I hadn’t thought this through completely. I thought there was so much more to being turned into a vampire than simply being bitten. Before I could ask or apologize, a gush of wind came from the door. It slammed closed and I realize that he was gone.
My jaw trembled and I sunk onto the edge of the chair feeling as if I had done something terrible and I wasn’t even sure how to fix it.
I don’t want you to become a vampire too.
But, if he didn’t want to turn me, how were we going to stay together? Was he just going to watch me grow old and eventually die? Had he never planned to turn me and or relationship was only going to ever be temporary?
I didn’t know and I don’t think that Lucian would ever tell me.
