Chapter 63 FRACTURED LOYALTIES

Chapter 63 FRACTURED LOYALTIES
Greg waited outside Sonia’s building, hands buried deep in his pockets, jaw tight. He hated feeling this way—helpless, furious, and jealous all at once.
Watching her spiral with Ricky for two nights had been torture, a knife twisting in his chest. He had told himself he’d respect her choices, give her space… but space wasn’t a luxury anymore. Not with her tangled in the web of Ricky’s dangerous allure.

He entered her apartment quietly, using the spare key Marcus had entrusted him with, the one no one else knew about.
Sonia was in the kitchen, a mug of tea in her hands, hair tangled, eyes distant.

“You need to explain something to me,” he said quietly, voice controlled, though every muscle in his body screamed.

Sonia glanced at him, startled, a flicker of guilt crossing her features. “Greg… I—”

“You slept with him,” Greg said flatly, not a question. “Ricky. Last night. And… you’re letting this happen.” His chest heaved with frustration. “Do you even realize what you’re doing to yourself?”

Sonia’s lips pressed into a thin line. “Greg, I—”

“Don’t ‘I’. Don’t excuse it. Don’t try to rationalize desire, Sonia. I’ve watched you fight, survive, become untouchable. And now… now you’re letting him unravel you.” His voice dropped to a whisper, pained. “And I can’t stand it.”

Sonia’s gaze softened, but not enough to meet his intensity. “I didn’t plan for this, Greg. I didn’t plan for him. You know the chaos I live in—I can’t control every fire.”

Greg’s hands curled into fists at his sides. “Control isn’t the problem. You’re letting him control you. And you know it.”

Her shoulders sagged slightly. “I don’t know what I feel anymore. Everything I’ve built… the revenge, the strategy, my life… it all gets muddled when he’s around.”

Greg took a deep breath, swallowing the lump in his throat. “Then maybe you need to think harder than you feel. Because if you let this spiral continue… I can’t protect you from yourself. And I can’t watch you destroy everything for a few hours of… pleasure.”

Her eyes softened further, guilt shining through the storm. But she didn’t answer. She couldn’t.

Sonia sank onto the couch, gripping the edge of a pillow. Greg’s words echoed, ringing sharper than any warning she’d ever received. She knew he was right. Every decision she’d made had been calculated, precise. And yet… every moment with Ricky burned away that precision.

Why does he have this hold over me? she thought bitterly. I’m supposed to be untouchable, unstoppable. And here I am, quaking in my own apartment because of one man.

Greg moved closer, sitting across from her, eyes never leaving hers. “Talk to me, Sonia. I can’t fix what Ricky’s doing to you unless you tell me what you want.”

She shook her head, voice barely a whisper. “I don’t know what I want. I don’t even know if I can trust myself anymore. He… he ignites something in me I can’t control. And I hate it.”

Greg’s lips pressed into a thin line. “I’ve loved you for longer than anyone else. And I’ll admit it—I want to protect you. I want you. But if you’re going to spiral into him, I need to know how far it goes. I can’t keep pretending I’m okay standing on the sidelines.”

Her throat tightened. God, he’s hurting because of me… “Greg… I don’t want to hurt you. I… I’m sorry. I can’t… I can’t give you what you want. Not now. Not ever, maybe.”

Greg’s eyes darkened. “Then don’t expect me to stand idle while you destroy yourself. I can’t. I won’t. You’re mine to save, Sonia. And if I have to step in… you’ll understand when it’s too late.”

Meanwhile, across the city, Ricky leaned back in his chair, phone in hand. He had called her again earlier, attempting to pull her back into his orbit. He hadn’t expected Greg’s presence to be a complicating factor—but he had noticed subtle shifts. Her hesitation, her guilt, the way she flinched when certain phrases touched on Greg.

She’s mine. And I’m not giving her up, he thought, a dangerous smile tugging at his lips. He knew the rules—they didn’t exist anymore. Every law, every precaution, every strategic mind game had dissolved the moment she let him in.

He sent a single message, deliberate, loaded with unspoken promise: “Tonight. No interruptions, just us. Let me show you what you’ve been missing, what i know you want.”

He knew she’d respond. She always did.

Sonia’s phone buzzed again. She stared at the screen, heart hammering. She should resist. She had to resist. But the text made her pulse spike, her mind betray her once more.

He knows me too well… she thought, fingers trembling as she typed a response. He always does.

Her thumb hovered over the send button. Greg’s words, his eyes, the guilt pressing on her chest—all of it—clashed violently with the fire Ricky ignited in her core.

Finally, her rational mind whispered the truth she hadn’t wanted to face: I don’t know if I can resist him. I don’t know if I want to.

And with a shaky breath, she pressed send.

Greg’s instincts screamed that he’d just lost another battle, that the text message came from Ricky, but he kept his composure. He exhaled slowly, hands clenching and unclenching. I can’t fight her desire. But I can protect her from the fallout. That’s all I can do. For now.

Even as she spiraled into Ricky’s world, Greg positioned himself strategically, watching, waiting, ready to intervene if chaos turned deadly. He hated feeling powerless, but he would never stop guarding her.

Somewhere deep down, Sonia knew this spiral wasn’t just passion—it was a war she may not likely win.
