Chapter 95: Haunted By Memories
Chapter 95: Haunted By Memories
Damian Black's POV:
"Now we'll see who it is that took her from the angle," I said as I leaned forward and locked my fingers across my lap.
It didn't take long for Kelly Anne to roll herself down before she attempted to stand. You could see a brace on her arm this time, as it had been obscured by the previous angle showing the other side. She tried to put two sets of crutches down underneath her opposite arm, but when she took her first step off the curb, she missed.
My eyes went wide seeing exactly how she fell this time, and I couldn't help it as a smirk plastered itself across my lips. She didn't get up at first, but it was at that particular moment that she could hear a vehicle speeding through the lot. She ducked her head down at the last possible moment they stopped.
I still couldn't get over that. I still couldn't get over the fact that they didn't just run her over. It would've caused her so much more pain, and it would've ended trouble for me and more than one area.
"Why not just run her over?" Andre spoke up at that precise moment.
"Just wait," Matthew said right then.
It was a matter of seconds before both individuals exited the vehicle and rushed over to her. I crossed my arms in front of myself at this moment, frustrated that somebody would show her the slightest care in the world. She didn't deserve it. She deserved everything that she got. This was just the tip of the iceberg as far as I was concerned.
I noticed that the driver walked over to stand by her head as his passenger rushed up and immediately knelt down in front of his vehicle. I furrowed my brows at the sight of what I was watching.
"Can you zoom in?" I asked Nathan. "I want to see this a bit closer."
"Sure thing, boss," Nathan said as he backed the video up five seconds to see them exit the vehicle, but it was zoomed in this time, so I could definitely tell a lot more about what was going on, since my view wasn't blocked by the front of their vehicle.
"Just look up...," I couldn't help but whisper under my breath as Andre turned over to look at me, but my eyes didn't leave the screen. "Let me see your eyes. I want to see your face."
I knew full well that the individuals in this particular video wouldn't hear what I was saying at this moment, but nonetheless, I wanted him to look up. I wanted to see who this particular individual was so that we could gather the much-needed info to make him pay for his misfortune. It was his misfortune. He came through at the wrong time, in the wrong place.
It wasn't until he had scooped Kelly Anne up into his arms that he looked around the area for a brief moment before he turned to head back to our vehicle.
"Wait," I said at that moment as my eyes went wide, staring at the screen. "Take that back."
Nathan turned to look at me as he paused the video for a moment. "What is it, boss?"
"Take it back about five seconds," I said as I stood up on my feet, and this time, I decided to walk around the table and closer to the screen. "I want to see that again.
"All right," Nathan said as he pressed a couple of buttons on the remote, taking the video back about ten seconds.
This time my arms were crossed in front of my chest as I leaned my back against the table between two of my men. I watched again as this particular individual climbed out of his vehicle, then made his way up its side, rushing to Kelly Anne's aid. However, anyone can wear a business suit and shiny shoes.
That's not what I was concerned about. I was concerned about the identity of this particular individual. The one who thought to intervene while I wasn't there. It wasn't until he stood up and actually looked around that I finally got a chance to see his face.
My eyes widened in shock, and my jaw partly dropped as Nathan paused the video at that exact moment. Everyone looked at the screen, but they had no idea who this person was. They didn't recognize him. However, I did. I knew exactly who this individual was.
"Boss?" Matthew spoke up right then.
That's when Gerald spoke, saying, "Is everything all right?"
Andre finally got up and walked around the table to stand closer to where we were now gathering, looking at the screen. "Boss, you know this particular individual is?"
I had uncrossed my arms, and I was now holding onto the front edge of the table as if that was the only anchor to help keep me planted in this very room. I looked down for a moment before I looked back up. I even lightly shook my head from side to side as I was trying to wrap my mind around what I had just witnessed.
This video showed everything that had already taken place. So even if I made a phone call and said someone to the hospital, she wouldn't be there. We couldn't even get a good look at the license plate number, so there would be no way to track them via street cameras.
Another issue that arose is that the vehicle they were in was a regular SUV with a few distinct features. It would be nearly impossible to pick them out of the lineup if you didn't know what you were looking for.
"Boss, can you tell us what you're thinking?" Clay finally spoke up as he was going over all of this information in his head. "Please tell us who you think this is."
I have to say I understand where my men are coming from. This is not my usual character. I was usually more reserved. Now, granted, I would allow my men to see things that I wouldn't show everyone, like letting my guard down in such a way, but this... This was so much more than just the showing-my-feelings sort of situation.
My mind couldn't help it as it ran back to the scene all those years ago when I was forced to leave my home in the middle of the night. My father, Germaine, for all intents and purposes, was standing there by the door with his guards ready to shuttle me out. There's one thing that he told me. I had received a death threat.
What was this particular threat that had haunted my mind all these years? The threat was... that if I didn't leave, the Phantom... Would have killed my entire family, wiping us from our entire existence.
"It's..." I started to say as I looked back up at the screen, my eyes staring directly into the eyes of the individual as he clocked the camera. Nathan has posited that precise moment. "It's..."
"It's who?" Clay asked again.
"It's Casper. The Phantom's only son."
