Chapter 78 - The Unforgiving Luna

"I saw it happen. I saw Mom and Dad die but I went back to sleep as if it was nothing" I raised my head to stare at Ryan and he was staring back at me as more tears dropped from my eyes.

Silence followed for a long time until Ryan sighed and I swallowed.

"Dad told me you were not like us. He said you were special in a way. I never understood it but being around Ezra made me understand why they killed Mom and Dad just to get you" he said "Don't get me wrong, Freya. It's not your fault. You didn't ask to be special and our parents didn't die because you were. They died because of the greed of those people. They will do anything for power and it includes killing the innocents. I want to make them pay, Freya. I don't know how but, Mom and Dad can only be at rest if those people paid for their sins"

Ryan's eyes had turned red but he didn't let the tears fall. He held everything in. The nightmare of that night was still very fresh in our memories.

"You should cry if you want to" I told him when I saw how he bit his lips to hold the tears in "You can cry in front of me, Ryan" I held him close to myself, patting his back as he burst out in tears.

I felt my heart clench tightly and my chest becoming stuffy, making me release a deep sigh.

.....

Kieran's Pov.

It's been a long 12 hours since the King had made his announcement to step down from the throne and this was the third time I was going to seek his audience.

Each time, the guards at his door stops me and the queen appears the next moment if I tried to force them.

They mindlinked her and had her here so I wouldn't get my way.

If it wasn't strange in the beginning then now, it was beginning to get fishy. The excuse was that, the King wants to rest his old body.

I couldn't help remembering what Ezra had once told me.

He said the King had at most, a few months left in this world as his health keeps deteriorating which was why he was desperate to find the pure blood.

Now, I wondered if the King had become critically ill that the Queen would have to hide him from everyone.

As usual, the guards blocked the double doors when I arrived.

"I'm sorry, my Prince, we--"

I raised my hand to stop the guard from saying more "Don't worry. Call the Queen for me. I'll ask for her permission one more time"

I was being courteous but this would be the last time.

It didn't take long before the Queen came hurrying over again.

She looked panicked as she ran over. No one would've noticed as she was always able to keep her composure and expression the way she wanted but I have always been able to see through her thick mask.

"Oh goddess, Kieran. You look much scarier and much more terrible each time I see you. You should freshen up at least" she gave me a smile as she patted my shoulder "I understand how it feels to lose your mate. I cannot even imagine what you're going through but Kieran, the dead can never come back. You have to keep living the present. Prepare for the future and forget the past"

My jaws clenched tightly, feeling the little rage I had in my chest, surfacing and bubbling, turning into something more.

I removed her hands away from me and stepped back a little, watching how her fake smile dropped quickly "Hazel is not dead until we find her corpse" I told her slowly, all I wanted was to get that fact into her head

Why does everyone keep assuming she was dead? Was that all they wanted.

I didn't know if I could hold back if another person talks about her being dead. My wolf wouldn't. I was barely trying to keep it rational.

"I'm here to see the King" I said.

The Queen threw a strange glance towards the guards before looking up at me again with that fake smile of hers.

"I've told you, Kieran. The King needs absolute rest now. He cannot see anyone"

"But I have something important to give to him"

"Hand it over to me and I'll pass it to him" she suggested.

"I cannot do that" my lips raised "It's very important. It's about the pure blood the King has been looking for"

There was surprised in her eyes for a while but it was gone the next moment.

"I'm afraid that will also have to wait"

My eyes narrowed at her words.

Strange.

I was sure the King would've woken up from his death bed the moment he hears about the pure blood. He was obsessed with it and even the queen knows how important this was to him.

If she was rejecting me even after I told her this then it was totally strange.

"Alright" my lips curled and I turned around to leave just like that.

"Kieran" The queen called,. making me to stop but I'd didn't look back at her.

She strolled towards me and stopped when she was at my front "You're not mad the King didn't chose you, are you?" She asked with raised brows "You see, Grayson has been doing a lot for a while. The people chose him and the King has chosen him too. No one can change that"

"Are you sure?" The corners of my lips lifted "The last time I checked, the King was extending his reign till the next two years. We also both know that he will never step down even if he was on his sicke bed"

"You either believe it or not"

I chuckled and without anything, I started to leave.

"Don't let Hazel's death get to you too much" she called as I walked out of the space, finally not breathing thesame air with her.

I could feel my power surging forward but I managed to keep it at bay as I entered inside the garden to see Fred waiting.

"How did it go?" He quickly asked "Did you see him?"

It's as I thought. They're definitely trying to hide something.

The King.

It's either he was critically Ill and they needed to hide him or he was... Dead!

"Do as we planned earlier, I have to see for myself and be sure"
