Dishing out the food and serving all of us was going to be a huge task for Melissa Fanny. But I just couldn’t wait to see her do it. With bated breath and impatient gaze, I tapped on the empty table and waited for her to begin.
Soon, Charity paced down to us, and bowed to me, “Apologies, the world richest man for the delay. Your wish is being carried out and Melissa Fanny will be dishing out the food soon.” She sounded amidst affectionless smile.
I glanced at my diamond wrist watch and simpered briefly before tossing my head, “I least expected such delayed services from you, Charity.” I gestured across my entire staff who were already yawning and staring with fallen gaze. “Does Melissa want us to die of hunger before she would serve the dish?” I queried in an almost quarrelsome tone, “What is still keeping her?” I snapped.
“Apologies, the world richest!” Charity tendered and bowed, “This has never happened in my restaurant. Why don’t you hold on and let me go and check on her. I really wonder what could be keeping her.” she elucidated and when she perceived the in satisfaction parading across my face, she intoned yet further, “She is supposed to be out with the dishes by now. I wonder what could be keeping her.”
I sighed and glanced at my watch before pointing to it, “We are lagging behind, Charity. We don’t have such time to waste. If she is bringing out the dishes she had better be fast about it else I will take my patronage to Hoffers Food,” I threatened even though I knew right inside of me that nothing would make me patronize Hoffers Food.
That bloody bastard!
She molded her arms and pled more intensely upon hearing my threat, “No, boss, please don’t do this. Do not patronize my competitor and leave me frustrated. Your visit to my restaurant is going to create an indelible mile stone in the success of my restaurant in the coming days.” She pled, “I promised you Melissa will be at your service soon.” She grinned and dashed out as thunder to fetch Melissa.
When Charity went to the kitchen , she was told Melissa left for the backyard and Charity wondered what she could be doing at the backyard instead of serving us food.
At the backyard Melissa leaned against the wall, her gaze raised at the blue sky as she wailed in grief.
“Oh why is he here? I know he has come to humiliate me! I wish I could exist and endure this poverty- stricken life of mine without setting my yes on this Brian Patrick .” she sniffed , dabbed her eyes with handkerchief and shook her head in regret, “Oh father and Lisa Bake deceived me. I never knew Brian Patrick was the true heir to the Saint Don Group. I never knew Mike Don was running in his veins. How would I have known that my ex husband was going to be the world richest man?” she stamped her feet furiously on the ground and wept like a kid that was denied his habitual play.
She squatted on the ground and lowered her gaze as if she was talking to the ground, “If I hadn’t divorced Brian Patrick I would probably be in the position of Clara Roham today and the entire world would address me as Melissa Don…” she stuttered and wailed even more intensely, “In my next life, I would never maltreat my husband, whether he be rich or not. I would never divorce my husband for the sake of his poverty. Look at me today. Who would believe that man in there who is feared and respected all over the world is my ex husband? Who would believe the world richest man was once married to me. Oh father, Lisa Bake you have finally ruined my life…”
“Melissa! Melissa!”
A voice interposed her.
It was Charity. She yelled as she advanced to the backyard.
Hastily Melissa dabbed her eyes, sniffed back tears and dared to perk up and invoke a bright smiling face just to impress her boss that all was well.
“What the hell are you doing here Melissa while the entire staff of the Saint Don Group await your services?” Charity queried and narrowed her gaze at her before stooping to behold her teary face, “Why do you have that look on your face? Have you been weeping or something?”
Melissa winked nervously, fondled with her fingers and averted her gaze to the wall. Each time she dared to open her mouth and speak she ended up shutting up fearfully and those thick lips of hers wouldn’t stop trembling.
“Answer me, biddy!” Charity yelled and accompanied it with a furious stamp of feet on the ground.
“I…I… am fine. I will just serve them right away ma’am. Apologies “ she mumbled, bowed humbly and left to be at our service.
Soon Melissa was seen carrying a tray of intercontinental dishes with her pitiable gaze lowered without any intention to lock eyes with me or any onlooker. I surveyed her as she served every staff to their satisfaction.
This was my ex wife, Melissa, a fortunate girl from the richest family in Rio Hondo now struggling to keep a low-life as a waitress.
My vengeance must have really drained off the better part of her family.
Once Charity dashed out with thunderous frown, I reminded her, “Charity Campbell can you please order your shabby-looking waitress to be fast about it. I have got a job to do at the office.”
“Melissa be fast about it!” Charity yelled at her, and remarked, “You left your job and went to wail at the back yard, keeping the world richest man waiting .”
I raised a narrowed brow at her and saw how gloomy and sucked her face was, “Oh was she wailing? Have you asked her if she divorced her poor husband? Because nowadays wives divorce their poverty stricken husbands not knowing tomorrow they would end up being shabby-looking, and poverty-infested waitress.”
Melissa stole a glance at me, bit her lower lips and shot her eyes in pain.
Charity interrupted me with a mocking laugh and choked on it which seemed to have possessed her.
Gently with trembling hands Melissa advanced to my side to serve me. Being abandoned to guilt and fear, she poured stew on my shoes.
“What! Oh my God! Charity exclaimed and gagged her mouth in fear…
