Once I caught sight of the brief smile which beclouded her face, I had a feeling she was in the right frame of mind to talk to me now. In addition, I offered her one of my roman emperor wine.
“Talk to me, ma’am,” I sounded and noticed the boy she came with was groping and daring to feel his surrounding, “it seems your son is blind, uh,” I pointed at the lad.
She gave a gentle nod, “Yes the world richest man,” she responded and bowed in a tilted way. “He is the reason I am here, boss, I am Charity Campbell, the chairman Charity Intercontinental Foods…”
Now this pretty woman got me off the floor by her revelation. A CEO? What the hell? I stared at her from head to toes and barely could swallow down saliva down my guts.
I gawked. “Wait a minute!” I gestured at her to chill out, “Are you telling me you are a CEO of a restaurant?” she gave a nod in confirmation and I intoned, “Then what the hell happened to you? Take a look at yourself and your son. You don’t look it. What happened to your financial life? Talk to me,” I sat up and impatiently tapped on the desk.
She sniffed, lowered her gaze in shame before raising her head to speak yet further, “That is the major reason I am here, boss. After the demise of my husband, I invested the little fortune he left for us.” She pointed at herself and the blind son, “I invested into the food industry. At the time we were earning good money until the outbreak of food poisoning which opened the storm on us…” she dared to break down in tears …
“No! No! No!” I peered at her, “You wouldn’t do that. Not anymore. I don’t have that time. You got to put yourself together and talk to the world richest man…”
She sniffed back tears and continued in a slower pace, “The outbreak stole our fortune, all we have ever saved. I couldn’t pay staffers salary anymore. Everyone of them resigned and scouted for better jobs.” She pressed her lips tightly before her jaw clenched, “That was the moment my son lost his sight in a ghastly car accident that almost took his life…” she lowered her gaze and smacked her lips in one moment of frustration.
“Come on perk up. Talk to me, do you have more things to say? Chill out, Charity. I know is not easy but you got to put yourself together and talk to me.”
She sniffed heavily and dabbed her eyes of the tears that welled up, “Please the world richest man, I need your help. I have not come to beg you money for my son’s eye surgery. I have an empire, the Charity Intercontinental Food. With good patronage I could afford anything I want. All I want you to do is to pay a visit to my restaurant just like you did to Hoffers Foods, some days ago.” She sucked a deep breath and lowered her gaze.
I raised a shocking brow and slumped in my swivel chair to listen yet further.
With her gaze widened at me she intoned swiftly, “Have you seen the Midas touch your visit had on Hoffers Food recently. Your visit to Hoffers Foods has brought in more patronage for Hoffers. In twenty four hours he had sold out massively. It is trending right now. Your visit made it possible. Everyone wants to eat at Hoffers Foods just because you visited…”
She paused, smacked her lips and went down on her knees without any intention to stand.
I sat up and narrowed my eyes at her, “Be on your feet, Charity. I don’t want you to go on your knees anymore. I am here to help you with whatever may be your challenge.”
She shook her head in disapproval, “No, Mike Don your name commands one hundred and twenty trillion dollars now. I don’t deserve to sit while talking to you. Please let me give honor to whom honor is due.” She molded her arms to plead yet further.
I shut my eyes, grinned and fought back tears before I lowered my gaze in one thoughtful moment of what life was for a broke ass delivery boy like me and the personality I was now. “Okay, Charity what would you want me to do?” I queried gently as I stared at her through teary eyes, without missing to sniff back tears from trickling down my cheeks.
Anxiously she sat down and peered at me, “I just want you to pay a visit to my restaurant, Charity Intercontinental, so that I can tap from your grace. Indeed your personality is contagious. I believe after your visit, customers will resume patronage and I would amass enough money to pay for my son’s medical bills,” she said at a breath and locked eyes with me in anxiety.
I pressed my lips, shook my head and sounded, “How about making you two offer?” I queried and dug my hand into my tuxedo, “Your son is blind and needs money for the surgery. How much is the surgery if I may ask?”
She dimmed her eyes thoughtfully and sounded nervously, “Half a million dollars. But I don’t want to bother you with my troubles, okay. All I want is your…” she stared gaping.
I interrupted her, “Charity. You need to bother me with your troubles, because I got unlimited wealth now and I need to reduce it. What am I going to do with all this money?” I gestured around my exquisite office with walls of premium gold finishing. I pulled out my pen from my tuxedo and reached to my cheque book which came handy and I scribbled some figures, endorsed it and handed over to her.
She chanted at the top of her lungs, “Oh my God! Oh my God!” Charity gagged her mouth with her trembling hands and stood up in unfathomable joy, as she stared at the cheque slip, “This is too much! Oh my God! The world richest man! One million dollars is just too much for my troubles. Certainly with these money troubles will avoid me till the end of time.”
I swung around in my swivel chair and sounded, “After your son’s eyes surgery you will use the remaining money to hire staff, pay their salary and tax. Get yourself ready because I will pay you an official visit that will change your business for good,” I said amidst heavy smile.
Charity was dumbfounded. She stared, gaping at me and wailing in tears of joy.
