Chapter 112 A future - Lily
Chapter 112 A future - Lily
"You're home again."
I walk into the dining room, finding my husband lounging on a chair looking sinfully delicious, his crisp white shirt unbuttoned on the top. The man has really been walking around without concealing the bite marks on his neck like it's a badge of honor.
He looks at me with heated chocolate eyes. Whoever said brown eyes were boring were truly lying, not when Vincent has the ability to look at me like that.
He's breaking down my walls again, the ones that I built back up before I decided that it's so lucrative to be playing with men.
"Thought I'd spend more time at home with you." He gets up, and pulls out the chair next to his.
"No battles to be fought?" I ask sarcastically. "No drugs to stop in the clubs?"
"Not today." He waits before I sit before taking his seat again. "I thought maybe we could go to the lake house this weekend. The whole weekend this time."
"You don't say." My fingers play with the fork. "What will we do the whole weekend?"
"Fuck." He says without preamble. "Sleep late, cook, drink wine, eat."
It sounds super romantic, but I keep my face straight. "You? Sleep late? I'd beg to see that."
The corners of his mouth lift in a smirk. "If memory serves me correct, I slept late the other day, I was so tired."
My face burns. This asshole knows exactly how to affect me. "If memory serves me correct, I was drugged and couldn't be held responsible for my actions."
"I'm surprised I can still get it up after you almost rode my dick off." He sighs, and I squint my eyes at him wishing I could strangle him right here and now. "Anyway, like I said last time, we have to address the elephant in the room."
I can't help but to roll my eyes, he always seems to bring up babies just when I was enjoying his fucking company. "Why don't we just get it over with, and get pregnant, please. The whole thing is starting to get extremely boring."
He looks surprised, luckily not hiding his expressions from me. "Really?"
I have been thinking about it. I'm not getting out of here or this marriage. Vincent is right, we might as well work together as partners, in whatever capacity that might be. The more I fight what is already established, the more in trouble I may become. Also, my husband is hot, and he clearly knows how to fuck very well, what more do I need?
"On one condition, though." Just because I agree with him on some points, does not mean that I can't have any demands. Nana taught me well.
"I wouldn't have believed that it would be so easy." He smiles, his eyes twinkling. "What is your one condition?"
I eventually checked my emails today, and before this conversation, I was just going to let it go, but I deserve some sort of happiness too.
"I want to have a career."
His smile slips slightly. "Okay."
"You don't seem too happy about that."
"It's not that I'm not happy." He sighs. "Believe it or not, Lily, I don't want you locked up here like you're a prisoner and I love the way you are. I don't ever want you to change."
Whoah. How did we get here?
"I just don't think the mafia as a whole is going to accept you being out there and painting me and pregnant bellies, clearly unhappy with your situation." He says seriously. "I honestly don't care, it's your way of expressing yourself, but you have to admit it's not putting me or the familia in a good light."
I knew he had some sort of opinion on those paintings.
"Okay, what about if I paint anonymously?" I grasp at the fact that he said he doesn't care what I paint.
"How will you do that?" A frown etches itself on his forehead. "Don't you want to be recognized for your work?"
"No. I want to paint, and sketch and draw, and I want people to look at it, but I don't need them to look at me if that makes sense."
"I thought you wanted to go to school, make friends, be out there." Vincent genuinely looks perplexed.
"That was before one of the biggest art agents wanted to work with me." I confess, thinking back on the emails from the dean. "I honestly didn't think I was that good, but if the world can see my work, that would be enough for me."
I didn't realize it meant so much to me. Not before I read those emails, and I really didn't think I was that good that an agent would seek me out. I regret what I did with professor Bernard, but he was right. My work deserves to be seen, and I would have a thousand babies if I could have that opportunity.
Vincent shrugs, like it isn't a big deal when it's everything to me. "Okay, then it's a done deal."
"I'm gonna need a bigger studio." I demand since he's being so compliant.
I can see the wheels of the engine turn in his head, trying to figure out how that's going to be possible in this old house.
"We could always move out." I suggest, taking my chances. "Or don't you have enough money?"
He chuckles, amused. "Father wouldn't like that too much, I would also have to take on more of our men for security."
"What did you think was going to happen if we were to have kids, too?" I lift my eyebrow mockingly. "This house is big, but it's not that big."
Also, he fucking slept with dead Amber in the very bedroom we're sleeping in right now.
Maybe starting over, on a clean slate, is exactly what we need.
