Chapter 42 How Could Olivia Possibly Be Like Her?
Chapter 42 How Could Olivia Possibly Be Like Her?
Unlike the chaos on Olivia's side, Vivian's life had been going great ever since she got her guaranteed admission to the University of Washington.
She had already been brought from City A to the main Wells family estate in Washington.
Looking at her newly redecorated bedroom filled with all kinds of luxury goods, Vivian felt life had never been this easy.
She changed into a beige long dress, went downstairs with a smile, sat down next to Emma, and cuddled up to her like she did as a child.
Emma naturally pulled her into her arms, smiling warmly with a gentle tone:
"Vivian, you're getting more beautiful as you grow up. That's wonderful."
Hearing this, Vivian's smile froze for a moment as she lay in Emma's arms, but she quickly covered it up.
"Mom, when I met Master Campbell last time, I told him you love his paintings, and he immediately said he'd paint one especially for you."
At these words, Emma's calm eyes finally showed a hint of brightness, but it quickly dimmed again.
She let out an almost imperceptible sigh and said softly:
"If my own daughter had grown up this much, she would surely be wonderful too."
At these words, Vivian completely lost her forced smile.
Because she wasn't their biological child.
She had been switched at birth with the Wells family's real daughter.
When she was three, a routine blood test during a medical checkup revealed the truth to the Wells family.
After that, although Vivian's treatment didn't change much, she could tell the Wells family had been constantly testing her talents.
Once they discovered Vivian was just one of many ordinary children, she was gradually pushed out of the Wells family's inner circle.
Otherwise, she could have lived in Washington and wouldn't have needed to go to school in a small city like City A.
This time, Vivian had finally seized the opportunity to return to Washington by stealing Olivia's unwanted painting talent and winning the science and technology gold award, and she had no intention of going back.
So she desperately tried to please Emma.
But Emma was still thinking about that child she'd never met since birth!
Vivian felt angry inside and couldn't help cursing silently:
How great would it be if that real daughter with Wells family blood had died at birth!
Even if she didn't die, it would be nice if she'd been raised badly or damaged somehow.
Surely the Wells family bloodline couldn't be so amazing that even being switched at birth, she could still be better than Vivian, who had enjoyed all these resources since childhood.
Thinking this way, Vivian gradually calmed her messy emotions.
When she looked up again, her face showed a more genuine smile.
She even spoke up to pray for the Wells family's real daughter, trying to win Emma's affection.
But just as Vivian finished saying:
"My sister will surely be blessed, and might even achieve great things."
The TV started broadcasting the story of Olivia being tricked by her fake parents into acknowledging them.
At first, Olivia's face didn't appear.
Only the Doris couple's shrill cries, and the camera catching a cold profile of Olivia.
Seeing this, Emma laughed and said:
"What's the point of acknowledging such a family? No wonder this girl won't recognize her parents."
Then Emma shook her head with a smile and picked up the remote to change channels:
"This girl is something too, so materialistic. If a family like ours claimed her, she'd probably rush to acknowledge her roots."
Just then, Olivia's full face appeared on the TV.
At the same time came Olivia's clear, crisp voice logically exposing those fake parents.
Emma froze.
The resemblance!
So much resemblance!
For a moment, Emma felt like she was seeing her younger self!
Before she gained weight, she looked exactly like Olivia!
Unlike Emma's excitement, Vivian felt even better seeing Olivia being claimed by such trashy parents.
If she hadn't noticed Emma's strange expression, she would have wanted to share all of Olivia's messy affairs with Emma.
"Mom, what's wrong?"
Vivian asked with concern.
But Emma directly called out Vivian's father's name, her voice trembling with excitement:
"Dominic, come here quickly, look! Does this girl look like me when I was young?!"
Vivian, who had stood up with Emma, stared wide-eyed in shock, her face full of disbelief.
She had always been glad she wasn't Emma's biological child, because Emma was really too fat!
Now she was being told that Emma was as thin as Olivia when she was young?
Wait!
Why would Olivia look like young Emma?!
Could it be...
This thought flashed through Vivian's mind, making her hands and feet instantly ice cold.
At this moment, Dominic, called by Emma, finally came down from upstairs.
He immediately saw Olivia on TV, facing many reporters, calm under pressure and speaking confidently.
He, like Emma, shouted excitedly:
"We've found our daughter! She must be our daughter!"
With that, Dominic picked up the phone to contact someone.
But Vivian quickly pressed it down.
"Vivian, what are you doing?"
Dominic was confused, and saw Vivian's action as hostile.
Vivian suppressed her shock and quickly spoke:
"The Wells family can't just bring her back like this. If she really is my sister, that's fine, but if not... would we have to send her away again? Wouldn't the whole Wells family become a joke then?"
Under tremendous pressure, Vivian's mind worked at its peak, explaining her "selflessness" with sound reasoning.
Hearing this, Dominic's excitement finally eased and his rationality returned.
He looked at Vivian with some appreciation, then contacted the Wells family's people, telling them to use any means necessary to complete a paternity test with Olivia without her knowledge.
Vivian watched her parents looking like they couldn't wait to fly to Olivia and acknowledge her, silently clenching her fists.
When Emma showed her photos from her youth, Vivian's heart sank even deeper.
But she still had to maintain a proper smile on the surface, and even say a few good words about Olivia.
After going through this whole process of saying things she didn't mean, Vivian's face darkened as soon as she returned to her room, her eyes frighteningly vicious.
She was now fairly certain that Olivia was probably the Wells family's lost real daughter, but she absolutely couldn't let Olivia come back!
Otherwise, not only would she lose the status she'd worked so hard to gain, but the lies she'd told before might all be exposed by Olivia.
She would never allow that to happen!
But what could she do?
Vivian paced in her room, one vicious plan after another forming in her mind...
