Chapter 99 Really Want to Cry
In the car, Jack glanced at Alison's back. She was so petite, it always reminded him of that woman. They looked so much alike.
As Jack was reversing the car, "Mommy!" Sophia and Ethan rushed into Alison's arms. Alison hugged them tightly, trying to keep Jack from seeing their faces. She heard the car backing up and thought she could only let go of the kids once Jack's car was far away.
Ethan curiously looked at the car across from them and said, "Mommy, did Uncle Winston bring you back? His car is so cool!" Alison lied, "No, it was another colleague." Her heart raced. If the kids weren't clinging to her, she might not have been able to speak at all. But their presence gave her strength, allowing her to face everything calmly.
After reversing, Jack casually looked out the window and saw Alison talking to the two kids. He suddenly remembered the things the kids had said to him on the phone and found them adorable. He decided to stop and meet them.
"Mommy, Uncle's car stopped, and he's getting out! Can I say hi to him?" Sophia said excitedly.
Alison's heart tightened, and she started to tremble, unable to say a word. Sophia noticed her unease and asked, "Mommy, what's wrong?"
"N-nothing..." Alison stammered, her mind in chaos. She hadn't expected Jack to run into the kids like this.
Now, she felt trapped, with no way out.
Ethan couldn't help but look at the man across from them. He looked so much like his daddy that Ethan almost called out, "Win..."
"Don't say a word! If you do, I won't be your mommy anymore!" Alison threatened Ethan with a trembling voice. She wasn't sure if it would work, but she needed to buy as much time as possible.
However, Jack's steps didn't stop. He kept walking towards them.
Even with her back to him, Alison could almost feel his presence.
Just as she was panicking, Jack's phone rang.
"Aimée, what's up?" Jack answered the call, giving Alison a chance to breathe. She quickly grabbed Sophia and Ethan and hurried away, not looking back at Jack.
"Alison, wait a minute..." Jack called out, holding his phone in one hand and pointing at Alison with the other.
But Alison pretended not to hear, and the kids, scared by her threat, didn't dare say a word.
Alison only vaguely heard Jack exclaim on the phone, "What? You're pregnant? Are you serious?" That was the last thing she heard him say.
Aimée was really pregnant with his child. Alison had predicted this.
Holding Sophia and Ethan's hands, Alison ran as fast as she could, feeling a sudden urge to cry. But she held back. With the kids by her side, she couldn't show any weakness.
The distance between her and him seemed to grow wider.
Ahead, there was a gazebo. If she could just turn the corner and follow the path out of the neighborhood, she would be safe.
When the three of them stopped outside the neighborhood, panting, Ethan asked seriously, "Mommy, did you do something bad?" Then he added sternly, "The teacher said good kids don't do bad things. If they do, they should admit it and correct it to still be good kids."
Alison's gloom instantly lifted. She had such adorable children.
She held back a laugh and answered seriously, "Mommy didn't do anything bad."
Sophia tugged at her hand, looking skeptical. "Then why did you run?"
"Didn't you hear? Uncle Winston's girlfriend called him. He's going to be a dad, so we shouldn't bother him."
"Mommy, Uncle Winston has a girlfriend?"
"Yes, he does."
"Are they getting married?"
"Not yet, but they probably will be soon." Alison thought, it must be a shotgun wedding, so Aimée would marry Jack soon.
"Mommy, then you still have a chance," Sophia's words left Alison with mixed feelings.
"Don't talk nonsense. Mommy has nothing to do with this Uncle Winston," Alison quickly denied, afraid her little ones would cause trouble for Jack.
Sophia glanced at Ethan, who mischievously turned his head and whispered in her ear, "Then Mommy must be involved with another Uncle Winston?"
Sophia nodded seriously, "Yes, that must be it."
"What are you two talking about?" Alison bent down but couldn't hear them clearly.
"Mommy, we were saying you look especially pretty today!" Sophia blinked, trying to cover up.
Alison pinched Sophia's cheek. These two little rascals were definitely up to something.
"Sophia, Ethan, listen up. Neither of the Uncle Winstons has anything to do with Mommy. Don't bother them, or they'll be unhappy, okay?"
"Okay," they answered in unison but secretly exchanged a glance. Mommy could say what she wanted; they had their own plans.
"Let's go home." Seeing that Jack hadn't followed, Alison held each child's hand and headed home. That was close; they almost ran into Jack.
"Mommy, Auntie made carrot soup tonight. It's sweet and delicious," Sophia said, looking back as Auntie slowly caught up. They had run too fast earlier.
Since she hadn't spent time with the kids last night, Alison played with them in the sandbox after dinner. The playroom had a pile of beach sand she had specially ordered. They used buckets and sieves to build castles, which reminded her of their trip to Paris.
It felt like a distant dream, yet so real.
That person had hidden so well.
But he knew she had gone to Paris.
Who was he? Who could he be?
He had always been by her side, but she had never noticed.
After putting the kids to bed, Alison chose a purple dress, put on a coat, and headed out to Rebel.
As she reached downstairs, she saw Jackson leaning against a streetlamp, waiting for her. Seeing her, he walked up and said, "Alison, let me take you to Rebel."
