Chapter 80 Falsely Accused
But they had no relationship at all.
Everything had gone back to that trap from over three years ago.
Someone was out to get her.
Was it Bates, Aimée, or Cherry?
It had to be one of them. Even though Jack didn't trust her and was cold towards her, she knew it wasn't him.
The person trying to harm her wasn't him.
But what was their goal?
To make Jack hate her and stay away from her?
If that was the case, they had already succeeded.
Her first thought was Aimée; she was the only one with a reason to be hostile towards her.
But she quickly shook her head. She and Jack had always been discreet in front of Aimée. Aimée had no reason to see her as an enemy.
Besides, Aimée had always been friendly to her.
Confused, she wondered if Bates had deliberately framed her.
But he had no reason to do that. It would only complicate his relationship with Aidan.
After all, the real power at YD was Aidan, not Jack. And before they went to the club, Jack had already told Bates that she might be his sister-in-law.
So it had to be Cherry. But why would she do it?
Sigh, only heaven knew the answer to that.
Looking up at the night sky, the stars seemed to mock her naivety and infatuation.
She seemed to have fallen for Jack, so even though she was hurt, she couldn't bring herself to hate him.
But their love was so difficult to realize.
This chaotic situation left her mind in a whirl, unable to think calmly.
"Get in the car," Jack said, shoving her into the car once again.
She sat helplessly in the seat, hearing him lock the car door. This time, she couldn't even jump out if she wanted to.
He had locked her in the car.
The car started up. Seeing the police car in the distance, he had to hurry, or else he'd get in trouble for illegal parking.
"Buckle up." The car sped forward, her belongings scattered all over the place, a complete mess.
She didn't want to buckle up. Her whole body hurt, and her heart hurt even more.
Now, no one believed her. Everyone thought she was the "thief" who had stolen Mr. Bates' client information.
What a mess. She shouldn't have come on this trip to Paris. So many inexplicable things had happened in just a few days, leaving her completely bewildered.
Now, there was no turning back.
The car twisted and turned through the night, speeding quickly, soon losing the police behind them.
She swayed with the car's speed, like a leaf about to fall in the wind, drifting unpredictably.
"Damn it!" Jack cursed under his breath, then slammed on the brakes at an empty intersection, forcibly buckling her seatbelt. "Until the truth comes out, I don't want you dead. You need to stay alive." He found an excuse, but it sounded unconvincing.
She remained silent, surrounded by his presence, breathing in his scent. She stared blankly out the window, watching the streetlights pass by, beautiful and elegant.
They were solar-powered streetlights, illuminating the gentle night.
She knew that if she didn't look so much like Emily, Jack wouldn't be this angry.
She had gotten into trouble because of that woman again.
"Jack, you can distrust me, but you can't disrespect me. I don't understand why you're so furious." She spoke softly, like snowflakes gently falling on a coat.
Her words made Jack pause. He realized his behavior had indeed been excessive.
"The stuff in your bag says it all. How can I trust you? How can I respect you? You don't deserve to be my sister-in-law." Jack was still fuming, practically ready to tear her apart. "If we lose this client because of your screw-up, you explain it to my brother. This has nothing to do with me. I'm done taking the blame." Jack slammed his fist on the steering wheel, losing control again.
Alison stayed calm. "What? Have you taken the blame before?" She pretended to be clueless, trying to get a read on his thoughts.
"All because of you..."
"Because of me? But I didn't even know you before."
"Because of someone who looks exactly like you." He said sullenly, feeling a bit better. Earlier, he had been infuriated by this woman who looked so much like Emily. Her actions seemed to be framing him.
"Emily? Did she make you take the blame?" She asked slowly, knowing this question might hurt him, but hoping it would wake him up. "Jack, I'm not Emily, so I won't make you take the blame."
He thought she was deliberately trying to ruin the big deal YD was about to secure.
That wasn't the outcome he wanted.
"So you're admitting you stole it?" He drove angrily, finding it hard to stay calm whenever he encountered this woman.
"Jack, I'll handle the trouble I caused myself. If possible, you should go back to YD. Aidan doesn't seem to have any ill intentions towards you." She suddenly said, feeling that although Aidan was a playboy, he didn't seem to be the one orchestrating everything behind the scenes. It was just her intuition.
She trusted Aidan.
Jack opened the car window, the wind blowing in his face and messing up Alison's short hair. She looked ahead with determination, where the bright streetlights shone.
She wouldn't let him take the blame again because he had already done it once, and it had caused him immense pain.
She just wanted to help him, to see him well.
It turned out that long ago, her heart had already been lost in his past tenderness.
Even if she could do it all over again, she wouldn't regret it.
She just wanted to tell him in person: she had never tried to harm him.
When the car returned to the club, Mr. Bates was anxiously waiting for Alison and Jack in the private room. He had drunk quite a bit, losing his mood for fun, even ignoring the beautiful Cherry. Seeing Jack dragging Alison in, Aimée stood up, "Jack, you're finally back."
At the same time, Aimée's gaze fell on Jack's hand tightly holding Alison's. Although Jack was just trying to bring Alison back, it looked very different to Aimée.
She didn't like Jack holding Alison's hand and quickly walked over, "Jack, why did it take so long?"
"Chasing her." Jack said simply.
Aimée looked Alison over again, "Alison, where did you go? We searched the whole private room and couldn't find you. And Jack, how did Alison hurt her knee?"
She asked with concern, even bending down to carefully check the injury on Alison's knee.
Whether it was genuine or not, Alison couldn't tell. She couldn't see through people's hearts. Any of the three besides Jack could have framed her, but she had no evidence to prove that the paper wasn't taken by her.
"I accidentally fell and hurt myself." She didn't care about the physical pain, more about Jack's distrust.
"Mr. Winston, did you find it?" Bates put down his glass, asking anxiously.
"Mr. Bates, is this it?" Jack pulled out the paper he had found in Alison's bag and handed it to Mr. Bates.
