Chapter 44 The Scene in the Changing Room
Alison couldn't believe how persistent Aidan was.
She walked out of the YD building and headed towards the bus stop.
That white Lamborghini was still trailing her. When she stopped, the car stopped too.
And it was parked right in the middle of the road, drawing way too much attention.
Everyone at the bus stop, young and old, was staring at the car. Before long, horns started blaring, urging Aidan to move his car.
The Lamborghini was blocking traffic.
Time seemed to stand still. Alison kept looking in the direction the bus would come from, but frustratingly, the bus she needed was nowhere in sight.
Inside the car, Aidan had lit a cigarette and was watching her through the glass, occasionally waving at her.
His waving drew the attention of everyone at the bus stop towards her.
Alison started to sweat.
Before she could think of a way to shake Aidan off, a police car appeared.
She looked at the police car in surprise, feeling a bit anxious.
If this turned into a big scene, she might become a problem at YD.
She didn't want her colleagues to think she was causing a stir.
She let out a frustrated sigh, really wanting to punch Aidan in the face.
She quickly walked to the car, yanked the door open, and angrily got in.
Aidan hit the gas, speeding away without even glancing at the police car behind them.
Sitting in the driver's seat, Aidan raised an eyebrow, glancing quickly at Alison as he drove. "Alison, did you know me before? And are you afraid of me?"
Afraid of him? What a joke. She wasn't afraid.
She just didn't want any trouble.
She came to YD to keep a low profile, to not draw attention.
But now, Aidan had completely "noticed" her.
Since that was the case, she might as well become his secretary. That way, she could quickly find out what happened back then and get rid of this troublesome man sooner.
Thinking of this, Alison smiled slightly. "Mr. President, do you think you're scary?"
Aidan was taken aback but kept his smile. He didn't want to cause Alison any unease or confusion before tomorrow's results came out.
"How could I be? I don't think I'm hard to approach at all."
"Mr. President, is this your first time driving an employee to try on work clothes?" Evening gowns could count as work clothes, right?
"What, you don't like it?"
"I'm flattered." She didn't want to be seen as a rival by her female colleagues. She had no interest in Aidan.
"There's more to surprise you." If she passed tomorrow, he had a big surprise planned for her.
Alison looked out the window, deciding to ignore Aidan. She had seen his cunning and intelligence and didn't believe he had any good ideas.
She stayed silent, but Aidan seemed in a good mood, whistling as he drove.
When she saw the "Chanel" sign, Alison finally breathed a sigh of relief. She didn't understand if the Winston brothers did it on purpose, but they both drove the same brand, color, and model of car.
She remembered reading about Jack's car in the newspaper not long ago because he never changed it.
Why did he do that?
Alison pushed open the car door, stepping out just as she heard Aidan say from inside the car, "Jack, where are you? Come switch back your Lamborghini. It's too old. I still prefer my new Volvo. Hurry up and return it."
Alison was startled and quickly looked around, relieved when she didn't see Jack.
She didn't care if Aidan was switching cars or following her; she quickly walked into the Chanel store.
"Alison, wait for me," Aidan called out.
"Mr. President, go ahead and switch cars. I'm not waiting." She didn't look back. She didn't want to run into Jack here, at least not now.
Thinking about how Jack hated her, Alison felt a sharp pain in her heart. It really hurt.
She walked into Chanel, her heart pounding.
Seeing a beautiful white wedding dress, she couldn't help but think of Jack.
She didn't dare to see him, but she really wanted to sneak a peek, just one look.
Her feet seemed to be drawn by something, quickly leading her to a window display with an evening gown.
She looked out the window and saw Jack standing in front of the white Lamborghini.
Sunlight dappled through the trees, and for a moment, Alison was mesmerized.
Maybe she never truly hated him.
It was just that her heart was filled with more sadness and helplessness.
Unfortunately, he hated her.
Unfortunately, they could only be strangers.
Aidan and Jack were chatting happily, looking like they had a great relationship with no animosity.
Jack had no guard up around Aidan.
Alison suddenly thought of Aidan's cunning. Could Jack's appearance be Aidan's deliberate arrangement?
She noticed a female store clerk watching her from a distance.
Alison immediately became alert. This could be Aidan testing her reaction to seeing Jack.
She smiled calmly and pointed to the white wedding dress beside her, asking the clerk, "Do you have this dress in my size?"
The clerk walked over, sizing her up, and said, "The size that would fit you was bought by a customer yesterday. If you're not in a hurry, we can custom-make one for you."
"Oh, someone already bought it? Then I don't want it." She casually found an excuse. She didn't really want to buy a wedding dress; she just didn't want the clerk to notice she had been looking outside.
The clerk enthusiastically recommended another wedding dress to Alison. "Miss Fairchild, you might like that one over there. It's the only one we have, and it would suit your skin tone and temperament perfectly." As soon as Alison asked, the clerk started pushing the sale, clearly wanting Alison to buy it.
The more Alison listened, the more she frowned, gaining a deeper understanding of Aidan's cunning. She hadn't mentioned her last name when she entered Chanel, and it was her first time here, yet the clerk knew her last name was Fairchild. This was no coincidence.
She turned to the clerk and said coolly, "Since you already know who I am, why not bring me the evening gown?" The clerk was clearly not as good an actor as Aidan; a single last name had given her away.
The clerk was momentarily stunned but quickly said, "I'll get it for you right away."
"Good, please hurry. I'm in a rush." Alison's eyes never left the clerk, but her mind was on seeing Jack outside one more time.
The clerk brought the evening gown, and Alison took it and was about to leave when she suddenly heard a woman's voice behind her, "Jack, this rose-red evening gown is so stylish. It matches your suit perfectly."
Alison was startled and quickly walked into the fitting room with the gown. Behind her, she heard Jack's magnetic and charming voice, "If the size is right, wrap it up."
"Jack, if it doesn't fit, it'll be a waste. I'll try it on first." That was what the woman said as Alison closed the fitting room door.
Alison quietly locked the fitting room door, leaning against it and taking deep breaths. That was a close call.
She was terrified of running into Jack face-to-face.
Aidan really knew how to stir things up. The more Alison feared seeing Jack, the more he created opportunities for them to meet.
What should she do?
Even leaving now was a hassle. Looking at the orange-red evening gown in her hands, the color was really unique, making her skin look even fairer.
Since she couldn't leave, Alison decided to try on the evening gown first and then figure out how to avoid Jack and leave Chanel.
She took off her jacket and was about to put on the evening gown when she suddenly heard a sickly sweet female voice, "Jack, can you help me with the zipper?"
What a coincidence, that woman had to use the fitting room next door, and Jack had followed her in!
A man and a woman in a fitting room...
Alison could imagine the disdainful yet envious looks from people around when Jack was led into the fitting room by that woman.
Disdain for the woman's behavior, but envy for having a handsome and wealthy man like Jack by her side.
