I’m Busy Earning Money for Baby
"Are all the employees you hire just freeloaders? Do they make the boss work overtime every day? Not even sparing Saturdays?" Alison asked, slowly turning her head.
"We've got another little one. I'm busy earning money for the baby. Otherwise, do you think my older brother would pay for Tyler's meals?" Jack said with a smile, gently touching her face with his fingertips.
He then leaned down and kissed her on the lips.
"Jack..." she whispered.
Her body was suddenly pressed against the desk.
Blushing, she looked up at the man before her.
"Jack, I...my breasts are engorged."
"Why didn't you finish feeding the kids before coming up?"
"They've been asleep for a while. How could I feed them?"
"Tyler probably doesn't eat much, does he?"
"Oh, he's still so little. Please don't talk about him like that. Let's talk about Lucia instead."
"She's already dead. We just need to take good care of Tyler." Jack's passion instantly waned by half.
He slowly stood up, helped Alison to her feet, and gently rubbed her waist.
"You've put on a little weight," he said softly, changing the subject.
Worried about the two children downstairs, Alison didn't stay seated for long before heading downstairs.
——
In the nursery on the first floor, Lyla and Tyler were sleeping soundly.
Alison sat quietly between the cribs, taking out her phone and snapping a photo.
When it was time for the children to leave school, the servant drove Alison to kindergarten.
Alison stood beneath the kapok tree by the main gate.
"Mommy…"
Sophia and Ethan were happily running toward her, each holding a small umbrella.
She opened her arms wide and hugged the two little ones tightly.
"Mommy, I lost a piece of my plasticine. Can I buy a new one?" Ethan pleaded.
"Of course." Alison pinched his cheek.
They headed to the shop.
——
In the supermarket——
"Don't wander too far. Mommy will come find you once I'm done picking out diapers," Alison said.
"Okay!" The two little ones ran off excitedly to pick out toys.
After a while, the shopping cart became filled to the brim.
Alison then headed toward the aisles lined with toys.
However, after walking past several rows without spotting Sophia and Ethan, she began to panic.
“Sophia… Ethan…”
Without hesitation, she pulled out her phone and called Jack.
As soon as the call connected, she said urgently, "Jack, come over here fast. Sophia and Ethan are missing."
"Alison, tell me where you are right now," he said calmly, grabbing his jacket and turning to head for the door.
"At...at the supermarket—the one I take Sophia and Ethan to every weekend."
"Okay, I'll be right there. Stay right where you are. Maybe they just stepped away for a moment and will be back soon." He rushed downstairs, jumped into his car, and sped toward the supermarket.
"Okay, I'll wait for the kids—and for you."
Alison looked around, finding a sales clerk in the pajama section of another aisle.
"Help..." she shouted.
Several security guards approached.
"Excuse me, are you Ms. Fairchild?" the lead guard asked politely.
"Yes. My two children are missing. Could you please help me look for them? They're fraternal twins, a little over five years old," Alison said.
The security guards nodded and spread out to search.
A clear voice suddenly rang out.
"Mommy, is something wrong? Why are there so many security guards?"
"Ethan?" Alison turned around.
The moment she saw Sophia and Ethan, she sighed in relief.
"Where did you two run off to? Why were you being so mischievous? Did you have any idea that these security guards were helping Mommy look for you?"
Sophia wrapped her arms around one of her legs.
"Mommy, it's all my fault. My stomach hurt, and I needed to use the bathroom, so I asked Ethan to come with me. I meant to call you, but there was no signal in the bathroom, and I couldn't get out..." Her voice grew quieter as she spoke.
Alison was about to speak when a familiar figure loomed over her.
"I'm glad you're back. Daddy will take you to get a new SIM card right away—one with great reception, no matter where you go. Okay?" Jack said, panting.
"Okay! Daddy's the best." Sophia smiled.
"Does that mean Mommy isn't good enough?" Alison mumbled.
Sophia mimicked Alison's scowl and pulled a funny face.
——
On the way back——
"Don't leave my sight when we go out." Alison repeatedly warned.
Ethan grew impatient, turned his face away from her, and stared out the car window.
"Don't worry, Mommy. I'll definitely be good from now on. I won't worry you again." Sophia snuggled up to her sweetly.
"You really are Mommy's little angel. Once your little sister gets older, will you help me take care of her?" Alison lovingly ruffled her hair.
"No problem! By then, I can help take care of Tyler, too," Sophia replied.
"Alison, why not just assign them a bodyguard?" Jack, the driver, suddenly interjected.
"Um, do we really need to go that far?"
"Trust me on this, okay?" Jack's tone was unwavering.
"Alright." Alison agreed.
"Yeah, the bodyguard will be here tomorrow. He can take you to the amusement park," Jack said.
"Does that mean we can go to the playground with the bodyguard whenever Daddy and Mommy are busy?" Ethan asked excitedly.
"Of course you can." Jack smiled as he looked at his children in the rearview mirror.
——
After dinner——
Jack emerged from Sophia and Ethan's room.
"The children are asleep," he said softly.
"Okay. Carry the baby upstairs." Alison smiled.
The two quickly made their way upstairs to the bedroom.
Alison naturally placed Tyler in the center of the bed and Lyla next to him.
"Alison, where am I supposed to sleep?" Jack asked.
Alison glanced around the room and casually pointed to the sofa. "Well, you can sleep on the sofa."
To her surprise, Jack didn't object.
He simply helped her rearrange the children's positions with calm efficiency.
As she stood up, he suddenly reached out and lifted her into his arms, heading toward the sofa.
"Jack, what are you doing?" she asked in surprise.
"Have you been missing me?" he asked softly, with a hint of teasing in his voice.
"Don't flatter yourself! It was raining, and I couldn't reach you. Jack, how could you just leave like that?" She glared at him.
His long fingers gently traced the skin at her collar.
He leaned down and pressed his thin lips firmly against hers.
"Yeah, it's my fault. I'll try to avoid this in the future, but sometimes the signal really is bad, like that time with Ethan and Sophia," he explained.
"Hmph! I need to punish you!" she said, still fuming.
"All right, I'll make you happy," he said with a smile.
"Jack, you're so annoying…" she murmured, blushing.
