Who Do You Think the Killer Is?
Alison was planning to make a breakfast.
Just then, Jack finished his cigarette and emerged from the balcony.
"Don't bother cooking, Alison. Let's go out to eat," he said, sounding concerned.
"It's fine. Home cooking is cleaner,” she replied with a smile.
"Just don't overdo it," he persisted, still uneasy.
"I need to stay active. Otherwise, childbirth will be difficult," she said, turning back with a smile as she cracked the eggs.
“Really?” He scratched his head, feeling embarrassed by his ignorance.
"Of course it is. Go watch the morning news. It'll be ready in ten minutes," she said with a soft chuckle.
They enjoyed breakfast while watching the news.
Just as they finished, Alison's phone rang.
"Hello," she answered softly.
"Ms. Fairchild, those two soil samples came from the same location. Could you tell me where the soil on your shoe came from?" James asked.
Her body trembled slightly. She steadied herself against the table before turning away.
"That soil is unique to the southern part of the Winston family estate's courtyard," she whispered into the phone.
Who could it be?
Every face from the ancestral home flashed through her mind.
Could it be Stephanie?
"Thank you. This is the most crucial clue. Once the case is solved, I'll treat you to a proper meal," James said gratefully.
"If the case is truly solved, I should be thanking you. Make sure you catch that person,” she said.
"Rest assured, Ms. Fairchild. I expect this case will be solved within three days."
“Do you already know who it is?”
James chuckled and replied candidly, "Well, I suspect it might be... Oh, I can't say. Once I'm certain and it's appropriate to announce, I'll be the first to tell you, okay?"
"Was there someone from the Winston family who went to the YD Building that night? A woman?" She lowered her voice.
"You guessed it. Correct. Surveillance shows that only one person from the Winston family entered the building that night,” James replied. "Thank you so much. I'll conduct further analysis now."
"All right, goodbye." She hung up, her heart heavy.
After washing the dishes, Alison walked over to the sofa, took the remote from Jack's hand, and gently turned him toward her.
"Tell me the story of Rock and Emily. I want to know."
"All right."
...
After hearing the entire tale, her thoughts became a chaotic whirlwind.
She felt that Stephanie was unlikely to be the mastermind behind the stolen photos.
"When you were with the Polar Bear Alliance, did you ever hear of a woman named Daphne?"
“Yes.” Jack answered.
"Then do you know where she is now?" she asked hopefully.
He shook his head. “I only knew her from a photograph.”
“What kind of photo? Where did you find it?" she pressed, gripping his hand anxiously.
“A black-and-white photo. On Matthew's desk,” he explained.
“Does she look like me?” she asked.
"Very much so, especially the eyes and nose," Jack smiled, his gaze sweeping over her face.
“Then who exactly is my father?”
“I don't know,” he replied.
"Did your father elope with my mother, Jack?"
“I don't think so. Grandfather said my father was very independent and strong-willed. Even if he wanted a woman, he wouldn't be foolish enough to abandon a business as large as YD.” He analyzed. " After all, Grandfather only had this one son, and the entire estate was meant to pass to him."
“But he did disappear. That's a fact,” she said.
"I always feel he's close by, maybe hiding in some corner of S City, watching us. Alison, trust me. Everything will come to light." He comforted her.
"I feel like everything that's happened to me is connected to the Winston family," she said anxiously.
"Impossible. How could my family hurt you?" He soothe her, brushing a strand of hair from her forehead.
"The person who murdered Manager Foster is from the Winston family," she said uneasily.
Jack froze, then immediately clasped her hand tightly. "Quick, let's go back to the ancestral home."
